      @@toni4729 She is over 60 years old and has been whole food vegan for over 30 years and is healthy and doesn't take any medications, has very strong bones especially for a woman of her build and family history. She has helped to successfully treat certain communities of chronic illnesses with a whole food vegan diet. The only way a keto diet and paleo diet are actually beneficial over the long term is if they are clean vegan keto and vegan paleo which I do find to be pretty healthy.

    Excellent presentation.
    One aspect that is problematic, though: Vegans often refer to the blue zones, but gloss over the fact (and it is a fact) that the blue zone populations ALL consume some animal foods. And the longest lived Seventh Day Adventists are the pesco-vegetarians, who eat up to one serving of fish per day, often salmon.

    • @strahinjamacesic3974
      @strahinjamacesic3974 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True, but nobody says that they are vegan, but that they are predominantly plant based. So yes, they usually take some animal meats (poultry and fish usually) but the quantities taken are dramatically lower than what we eat usually.
      Also, we need to take into consideration the health status of a person switching to this kind of diet. If you are healthy, then sure, having some meat or fish here and there is perfectly fine (if we don't take the ethical or environmental aspects of it).
      But usually people who switch to this kind of diet are starting from a minus position, where their health is already diminished and are suffering from some sort of a chronic disease which is destroying their lifestyle (myself included).
      The thing is that in order to keep the animal intake minimal, you need to be disciplined and to take it in moderation. However, moderation as a concept simply doesn't work. Changing habits, especially those related to dietary choices, is a very difficult feat with all the food options surrounding that are convenient are laden with everything we shouldn't be intaking....
      So it is a bit of a complicated situation unfortunately.

      @@strahinjamacesic3974 Plant-based foods are mostly lower in caloric density. So it is much easier to lose weight on plant-based foods.

      @strahinjamacesic3974 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@viveviveka2651 I am not sure if we can assign the benefits just to losing weight. I don't believe it is that simple. You can lose weight by simple caloric restriction living on junk, and yet be sick. You need the stuff that helps your body repair itself as well. You need the food for the intestinal bacteria for a variety of reasons. So, I highly doubt that losing the weight in itself is sufficient to be healthy and even more important, to be healed.

    • @viveviveka2651
      @viveviveka2651 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@strahinjamacesic3974 I agree with that. Losing weight is very important to many people's health, but there are other factors as well.
      I am predominantly plant-based, and rarely experience the temptation of junk foods. I usually don't even have any around. But yesterday I was given two large bags of "Blueberry Muffin Toasters," which are basically a bunch of little cookies, made by Nabisco. They are crunchy and tasty and sweet, and the words they use make them sound relatively okay or acceptable. They are even made with whole wheat flour. The second ingredient is sugar. Then rice flour, canola oil, fructose, dextrose, maltodextrin. Basically refined flours, sugars and oil. Not on my list of healthy foods. But it is so easy to reach for them and eat them. Instant gratification. And they are designed to be addictive.
      I think the best answer is not even to have these sorts of products around.

    • @strahinjamacesic3974
      @strahinjamacesic3974 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@viveviveka2651 oh how I agree with that. Junk is so readily accessible that "moderation" simply cannot work as a concept.
      And we often fail to take the emotional and psychological state into the equation as you do need to have yourself and your health as a priorityas an act of loving yourself to be able to actually commit to healthy eating. This is something I am trying to overcome right now. :)

    I don't think anyone would recommend a slim person to change their diet to a keto diet for better health management. Deep down people probably know it is unhealthy but the short term weight loss is very good after their decades of failures.

      When I ate meat I couldn't lift myself from the sofa. I had lifelong suicidal depression too. Even if keto was healthy (which I don't believe from scientific evidence) there is more to health than high cholesterol and heart disease. I walk 10 miles every day now.
