Excellent presentation! Brenda Davis is the ultimate professional and gives such great advice. If only everyone would learn from this, medical costs in the USA would decrease dramatically.
You can tell she is passionate about nutrition, but also about doing good for others. Some commenters didn't like her voice, but I thought the content was strong enough to overpower it and her emphasis was needed to drive home alot of the points. I listened to every word and plan to go whole-foods plant-based in every sense as is optimal for my health, the planet, and all life in general.
just the appearance of the woman herself is the perfect advocate for this type of diet. she looks great. every woman at her age should have as good a figure.
Wow, this talk is amazing! Everything Brenda Davis does is well-researched, carefully thought-out and thoughtfully presented, and this is her best talk yet! So comprehensive and packed full of great information, yet also really heartfelt, especially at the end!
That was a brilliant talk, if only more people would listen to the common sense it makes. 70 billion animals slaughtered, just sickeningly appalling. It makes me so sad and pathetically useless in knowing how to end this massacre.
Anne Suffolk I know right! The moment you become vegan you can't help but ask yourself how in the world you ever ate meat! I look at my puppy who I love more than anything! Then I think of baby cows, chickens and piglets and their mothers and my heart breaks for them. We live in an age with a constant holocaust against God's beautiful animals.
I can adhere to the 20 to 30 days to get used to a new diet. I went from a "normal" diet with sodas , sugar and fat to a WFPB no oil diet in may. The first 2 to 3 weeks were no fun at all. I went into withdrawl from the sugar and missed my old ways of shopping and cooking. After those first few weeks i didn't know any better and now i crave things like spinach or apples, and on very rare occasions something like fries. And when i do give in to a craving of something processed its always disapointing. It just has no taste anymore. I like my way of eating and the way it makes me feel. I cant even immagine eating like my old ways now. Beans and veggies...come over here! haha
So much important info especially for those of us who are relatively new to this lifestyle, and/or for those who want to make changes but are overwhelmed by just beginning. Thank you for this!
Thank you Ms. DAVIS for organizing all of the plant based information in one discussion, as well as all of the other vital information of course. I was able to actually write a great organized outline to help me follow a great plan just with this one conference discussion. You're a great instructor! I really appreciate your efforts. SVT

LetTheStory Begins - NWO? Seriously? A vegan diet is meant to protect animals, protect the environment, and protect human health, it also is better economically and has implications for global sustainability towards issues like world hunger and human rights, how is this a negative thing? But even if it WAS some conspiratorial new world order, it'd be a good movement. Luckily, there is no conspiracy. Let's think about which is the more diabolical and corrupt: Is it either the Vegan movement which is grassroots, has no financial agenda, has no government ties, has no personal gains, and is based on altruism & ethics ---OR is it the Meat/Dairy/Egg industry which is corporate-run, financially motivated, has lobbyist ties to government, has EVERYTHING to lose, and is rooted in greed? Yeah, I think logic and common sense here says it all. These animal-based industries are doing what the Tobacco Industry did when they were exposed: "we don't have to debunk our dissenters, we just need to create enough doubt in the consumer's mind so that they continue to purchase our products". You can rely on your conspiracy nonsense, I refuse to allow these industries to brainwash me or instill doubt. Our bodies are biologically closer to herbivorous animals, anybody with a background in anatomy & physiology (like I am) would know this. The omnivore classification is based on behavior, not taxonomy, so that was your first mistake. You can stay an omnivore and take a reducetarian approach. You don't have to go full vegan. The less death we eat, the better. For the animals, for the planet, and for our health.
Since I've started being WFPB I can't tell you how much my health has improved and I'm finally losing weight despite being in my menopausal years. Both my mom, sister and I have a difficult time controlling weight as we age but being plant based has made it less frustrating and almost easy to me. I don't plan on going back to eating animal foods.
If ever you have talked on a stage to a crowd, vocal chords have a tendency to tighten, particularly with strong emotion. I think this talk is one of the best on the vegan diet. It is very hard work to get the diet right and not many can do that. Most of the Blue Zones eat some animal products when they can. Meat once a week or several times a month, eggs, fish etc. Man is an omnivore, digestions and metabolism vary.
Vegan is not a good enough description, it should always be referred to as whole food, plant based diet. That is more descriptive because lots of junk foods qualify as vegan or vegetarian. My body is so happy since I started this total plant based diet after only six weeks. My colitis straightened up after a week of a plain vegetable and potato soup diet. Once that happened, my tummy is flat, and I thought it was fat all that time. Due to my colitis I have started out with more cooked plants than raw, but am looking forward to more raw as I get further into it. I learned that spelt wheat was low gluten so I use that for bread. I am learning to keep it simple at first and stick with things I like, like avacados beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, quinoa, brown rice, spelt bread, bananas, melon, yellow squash, mushrooms, onions, garlic, fresh cilantro and parsley, spaghetti sauce, banza noodles, hummus, organic chips, stuff like that. Nutrient dense. Some day I may get a food processor and get more sophisticated. But I am a newbie. I don't get many cravings, except for a caramel latte...but no caffiene for me.
Nice post , I too refer to myself as following a WFPB diet. You've also listed all the foods I eat :-) WHOLEFOOD - foods not processed , no white bread , no white rice etc.
When I eat greens, many fruits, and many veggies I get acid reflux but I do great on things such as grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, almonds, and brown rice. I don't think that vegan is best for everyone. It depends on your own body and how it breaks food down. We are all different and have allergies and or foods that don't agree with us.

I agree with this talk. I know in my own case (I have Crohn's) I can't afford to eat a big steak and have it sit in my colon for days. It takes days to digest meat whereas plants move right through. What are we to do with all the cows/pigs in the world? We can't make pets out of all the animals. So many ranchers will be out of business. It's kind of confusing.
I've been on a plant-based diet for nearly four months and have been losing more weight than expected. I'm concerned that I'm losing too much weight. So how do I keep the weight on without eating meat and dairy?
you did not mention that animal proteins have high levels of methionine linked to acid load and reduced life spans and stimulates IGF-1/cancer cell stimulators
No, methionine is an essential amino acid, which means we need it from dietary sources. There is no evidence that it causes any disease. Please don’t spread false propaganda.
Problem is, younger to middle aged people can eat an animal based diet and get away with it, or so they believe. Internal damage being done often doesn't make itself known until later in life. It would be helpful if we could see inside ourselves as easy as looking in a mirror. We have to do our own research.
ASF causing invisible internal damage is an interesting, but entirely erroneous, opinion. Where did you hear it? It certainly was in the scientific literature.
I really enjoy your information and knowledge, I have purchased your books. My one concern is the low fat milk options that were mentioned in your book , this is old news that has been proven wrong because when fat is lowered they add more sugar.. i do realize you don't promote dairy but it is mentioned in your becoming vegetarian book, otherwise i love your information.. thank you
Great presentation. I just bought Brenda's "Becoming Vegan" book on Kindle. Anyone know of a good app at the Apple store to track the vital ingredients in the vegan diet to more easily determine when enough vitamins and minerals are ingested from food to know when to supplement?
I think everything in balance. Not excessive except veg. I have question about the veg we eat to consume enough to get out of them what we use to 30 yrs ago I would be eating all day. So how much? Also I eat beans but I'm tired of the bloating I feel and get. I've tried ringing them but still. Some aren't as bad as others. I started small amounts and then increase and still the same. Very interesting info but one person says one thing and another says something else. It gets frustrating.
Hi. I just wanted to mention that I have read a lot of people do not have the enzyme it takes to digest beans. It is genetic and can be compensated for with a particular enzyme. Look it up. Hope this helps as it has many others..
Just got to the part about soaking and dehydrating nuts and seeds. That seems counterproductive to me. That is a "process" and seems like it would leach out nutrients.
Many people who are poor are not able to afford all of the vegetables in the optimal diet. They can't afford all the greens and fruits and berries and stuff because those are some of the most expensive Foods out there. I have tried to feed a family on those foods and it is certainly not an expensive. So I hope this talk will cover how to eat those colorful Foods inexpensively.
i used to think that as well until i stopped purchasing animal products and i had all sorts of money for produce. animal products are so extremely expensive. i buy dry beans and grains. millet is waaay cheaper than rice, but rice is great too. go to international/ethic indian stores or online to get dry goods even cheaper. buy it in bulk and then all the other money for your foods can go to fresh produce. most veggies are under 1-3 $ a pound while animal products a 5-20 $ a pound. and you may think processed grains are cheaper than whole grains, but a box of cereal has 22-32 ounces of cereal for 3-6 $ and it claims it has like 10-16 servings but most people only get 4-6 bowls of cereal from a box of cereal. A loaf of white bread is between 1-3 $ and lasts most families like 2-3 days but if you buy 10$ worth of whole grain rice it'll last a month or more. So it only SEEMS more expensive to buy whole plant foods over processed food. While it really isn't.
I’m confused, she soaks nuts and seeds, gets them nice and hydrated, then puts them in a dehydrator to dry them out again. (around the 47 minute marker) Am I understanding this right? Anyone...🤔
Soaking destroys some of the compounds that keep you from absorbing some of the nutrients in the nuts. She'll then dehydrate them so they're crunchy again.
She's soaking them to increase the nutrient content and reduce the phytates and oxalates. She dehydrates for practical uses in cooking. The first method is for nutritional purposes, the second method is for culinary purposes. Makes sense?
any one else is bothered by her and dr. geiger's high pitched screeching? I love what they have to say but i prefer his book to his presentations because of the voice. i can take hers a little more because she is female.
alpha7ization they're wrong about nuts. They don't think they're "bad" though, I think they recommend not to focus on them because they're calorically dense. I think they're missing the bigger picture, that is, how healthy these foods are and that they is no need to be afraid of them
i think the stress is on having more omega 3s than 6s, and a lot of nuts and veg oils are high in 6s and 9s and only a few are high in 3s. also, a lot of people supplement their standard american diet with nuts as a healthy alternative snack, but don't change their other habits. nuts on TOP of dairy and meat = a lot of fat, cholesterol, etc. nuts are EASIER than eating a lot more veg, so maybe that's part of why they're not encouraged as much, but I'm just speculating.
first she said that fructose in fruit is ok, then she starts comparing fruit with pepsi and says to limit it wtf? Why this obsession when you hae no studies linking fruit to disease?
I just came on here to say the exact same thing!!!!!! So sad I cannot get the benefit ..no doubt...of the information,......,but I cannot take that shrieky shrill whine voice....like listening to a table saw.
This isn't really a good talk. I know true believers like it.. but it's just wrong. We are only now going to have populations of people eating animal based diets, or wholly animal based diets, for evaluation. That 'blue zones' exist doesn't show plant based diets are best. It shows they are better than processed food diets. Also, the ethics of eating animals is a serious topic, but it's beside the point about nutrition. On its own, a full picture of the pros and cons of plant cultivation vs grasslands and herbivore based eating is called for ... not just a simple animal welfare approach. Tilling kills man small animals; harvesting cattle does not. Which is more deadly? Do the numbers matter most, or is size important? Intelligence? What kind? Etc.
There are already populations to look back at the ate largely animal based, if not nearly completely. The Inuit for example, who did not have a long life span and often died from heart disease.
Hi Jason. The Inuit example might be right, but that doesn't show all ketogenic diets are bad ... some mixing of plants into a diet might be ideal. That's the most common view among low-carb community scientists. See this link from just today:th-cam.com/video/djhcpnBE-y8/w-d-xo.html&feature=push-prem&attr_tag=hN_N5W9_XETMPsd_%3A6 The link above mentions studies showing ketogenic diets drastically increase life span / health span. Just 10 months ago, Dr. Longo was asking for such studies. See here in the 18:30 to 20 minute mark: th-cam.com/video/Sqqi0eyq9yc/w-d-xo.html Diet information is changing rapidly.
@@Appleblade you seem to be in denial. There are 3 issures: ethical, health ans sutrainability. Animal products compromise all three. There´s no other reading of the situation. There´s also the financial side. Governmente subsidises these productions with OUR money. There´s really no debate here. Are you a hunter or do you work for a meat industry? Cause you seem to be really trying hard to disprove the obvious. Best regards.
@@Doglife1977 ... Hi Casa... nope, not in the meat industry. Sustainability isn't an issue if feminism keeps pushing women into work and having few babies. 4 Billion is world population in 2100 according to those Scandinavians doing TED talks all over youTube. Do you really think more animals are killed if we ate only beef compared to plants? I suppose cows step on a few mice, rats, voles, all the bugs ... I'd really like to see an honest estimate of total mortality of beef vs. corn, say. I don't think it's obvious which is morally superior considering what tilling and tractor tires do. To feed me Tostitos for a year, is that more and fewer animals that die than the single cow I might eat?
I love what this woman is saying, but her voice is unfortunately quite annoying. It's sound strained, like she's speaking in a higher pitch than her relaxed normal voice. Yes, that part is important if you are a speaker. You can stress words without your voice cracking.
Maybe you should be doing the presentation then, or give her your expert advice. I personally found it informative. Maybe you could try listening to the message instead of focusing on the messenger
Kelvin Ring I think the soundwork might be to blame as well (cracking sounds). Usually I love just loud and clearly listening to those good presentations...good messages and information. Just annoying when something so blatantly ruins it.
Margaret Thatcher was also hard to listen to until she got voice lessons. At first I thought this lady's voice was due to stress, but it didn't get any better so it's likely not stress related.
I found her soft-spoken for the most part, but she did get louder when she was giving emphasis. I found it easier to follow bc she varied the tempo & range, sort of how journalists do. I think in this day and age where our attention-span isn't what it used to be, this kind of speech works. I focused mostly on the content as well, bc what she was saying was more engaging than how she was saying it. If she had talked about something less significant, I may have had trouble.
I can't listen to this. I could read a transcript. Her voice literally hurts my ears and my head. She must have read comments about her voice and it would be sensible for her to try to tone it down. She could go to a voice coach and learn how to soften her voice. It would be a courtesy to people who want to hear her message without suffering.
We need more people like Brenda Davis in this world!

More beans and whole grains mixed with nuts and seeds could help. Add an extra meal in your day.
Peanut butter, beans, bananas, potatoes and eat more.
Avocado and eat more calories
Wow! I didn't know that about brown rice cakes. I eat a lot of those. Like 6-8 a day.
you did not mention that animal proteins have high levels of methionine linked to acid load and reduced life spans and stimulates IGF-1/cancer cell stimulators
No, methionine is an essential amino acid, which means we need it from dietary sources. There is no evidence that it causes any disease. Please don’t spread false propaganda.
Does anyone know where I can download this presentation?
Thank you very much for sharing such a valuable information!
Thank you for watching and caring.
Brenda I want To be vegetarian , pls tell me how Can I get your books.
What a great informative video!
They used to talk about 'muscle fiber'.That is probably where the confusion comes from.
My one concern is the low fat milk options that were mentioned in your book , this is old news that has been proven wrong because when fat is lowered they add more sugar.. i do realize you don't promote dairy but it is mentioned in your becoming vegetarian book, otherwise i love your information.. thank you
I compared fat free milk and whole milk at BJs and Costco and sugar was the same on the labels so I doubt sugar is added to low fat milk
Listen to more than once
Thank you.
what is the volume of a serving? Why can't you talk in terms of cubic centimetres or grams so we can measure our volumes of food?
Interesting that for their high legume and vegetable intact, India doesn’t make the list !
Don’t ask awkward questions. You’ll ruin the narrative. 😂😂😂
Only if the liquid were acidic, then nutrients would "leach". Make sure the soaking water has a neutral ph.
Ironically, the availability of bad food provides the opportunity for these people to have their jobs. Why not just stop supplying the bad food?
annihilationHaven The availability of good food provides dietitian's the opportunity to have their jobs too. They point out BOTH.
I agree, but let's not forget what our foods are being sprayed with. They didn't have that back in the day.
Think rice and beans. Buy your beans and rice dry
Then suppliments with other stuff
i used to think that as well until i stopped purchasing animal products and i had all sorts of money for produce. animal products are so extremely expensive. i buy dry beans and grains. millet is waaay cheaper than rice, but rice is great too. go to international/ethic indian stores or online to get dry goods even cheaper. buy it in bulk and then all the other money for your foods can go to fresh produce. most veggies are under 1-3 $ a pound while animal products a 5-20 $ a pound. and you may think processed grains are cheaper than whole grains, but a box of cereal has 22-32 ounces of cereal for 3-6 $ and it claims it has like 10-16 servings but most people only get 4-6 bowls of cereal from a box of cereal.
Read her book and study it
*Brenda Davis* [1:00:11]: _"I recommend that people aim for 1000 mg_ [Ca] _a day to meet the RDA, but almost half the vegans_ [44.5%
Lucky bastard, that Davis guy!
Soy is sprayed with round up corn too
One pint of cider = 1 portion of fruit. One glass of red wine = 1 portion of fruit.
Oh no! Looks like I can no longer, roast my veggies and toast nuts and seeds. ☹️
I need to eat more veggies🥕🥒🥦
B12 is in Comfrey also.
It’s a pity comfrey is poisonous. www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-295/comfrey
I bought Bio Cabbage at Lidl. It was not tasty. Regular non-Bio from other shops are tastier.
any one else is bothered by her and dr. geiger's high pitched screeching?
I love what they have to say but i prefer his book to his presentations because of the voice. i can take hers a little more because she is female.
Wow. Really....uhhhh- Shallow much? Haven't you been taught, if you dont have anything nice to say- 🤐 Goodness gracious.
Hi, do you have treatment of herpes simplex virus. Please tell me about this.
ALA means what?
please help me out... I'm not a native English
Alpha-Linolenic Acid aka Omega 3 essential fatty acid
This is ery good thank you Seventh day is God's Sabbath
Beautiful....
Mary Poppins irl love you Brenda
Interesting comment on nuts. People like John Mcdougall, and Jeff Novak think nuts are not great for you
alpha7ization they're wrong about nuts. They don't think they're "bad" though, I think they recommend not to focus on them because they're calorically dense. I think they're missing the bigger picture, that is, how healthy these foods are and that they is no need to be afraid of them
i think the stress is on having more omega 3s than 6s, and a lot of nuts and veg oils are high in 6s and 9s and only a few are high in 3s. also, a lot of people supplement their standard american diet with nuts as a healthy alternative snack, but don't change their other habits. nuts on TOP of dairy and meat = a lot of fat, cholesterol, etc. nuts are EASIER than eating a lot more veg, so maybe that's part of why they're not encouraged as much, but I'm just speculating.
what a voice yikes hard to listen to
1:20
these concepts dont work together...like at all
and everyone has different priorities ontop of that
Beautiful
This woman's voice is I R R I T A T I N G ! ! !
Forest from the trees.
It's not the woman's voice that is irritating It's your perception so you must be easily irritable...
Hot though
I know. It's a tad shrieking. Might be nerves. I like her, though. Makes sense.
first she said that fructose in fruit is ok, then she starts comparing fruit with pepsi and says to limit it wtf? Why this obsession when you hae no studies linking fruit to disease?
She was comparing the WHOLE fruit to juice.
🔥🔥👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes, interesting person and a good example, but that voice, like chalk on a blackboard. I can only listen in small chunks.
I just came on here to say the exact same thing!!!!!! So sad I cannot get the benefit ..no doubt...of the information,......,but I cannot take that shrieky shrill whine voice....like listening to a table saw.
Sweet bod
What kind? Etc.
What matters is blatant exploitation vs accidental damage
There are already populations to look back at the ate largely animal based, if not nearly completely. The Inuit for example, who did not have a long life span and often died from heart disease.
Hi Jason. The Inuit example might be right, but that doesn't show all ketogenic diets are bad ... some mixing of plants into a diet might be ideal. That's the most common view among low-carb community scientists. See this link from just today:th-cam.com/video/djhcpnBE-y8/w-d-xo.html&feature=push-prem&attr_tag=hN_N5W9_XETMPsd_%3A6
The link above mentions studies showing ketogenic diets drastically increase life span / health span. Just 10 months ago, Dr. Longo was asking for such studies. See here in the 18:30 to 20 minute mark: th-cam.com/video/Sqqi0eyq9yc/w-d-xo.html
Diet information is changing rapidly.
Melk? Mlk ? The letter I is somehow a problem to pronounce .
I love what this woman is saying, but her voice is unfortunately quite annoying. It's sound strained, like she's speaking in a higher pitch than her relaxed normal voice. Yes, that part is important if you are a speaker. You can stress words without your voice cracking.
Ugh...so true. Her appearance otherwise and content might be quite good...but i couldnt take that voice. Lol.
I wonder if she's wearing a corset?
She exercises
Wt. Training shapes her BODY.
