This is exactly the M1 to M4 upgrade I’m looking at. Appreciate the comparison. I think it’s time to pull the trigger. I just wish they still offered space gray. Silver is too bright for the rest of my monitor and peripherals, but I can’t stand fingerprints all over black devices.
I don't see why unless there is a new port or feature. Most laptops still can not compete with the M3 Air single core CPU performance, and dongles are cheap and light weight. They even have 16GB of RAM starting configuration.
If your work flow takes a hit from your current setup and you cannot deal with the extra time to complete your task, consider an upgrade. Kept my 2015 MBP till 2023 before upgrading. I heard M4 Pro with fans are turning on earlier for some people with light tasks, don't think that was an issue with the M1 Pro.
I currently have a 16 M1 Pro and a DELL G7 17 with an i7 10 GEN and a RTX 2070! My 16 M1 Pro still meets my needs however my G7 doesn't. I will be upgrading to a DELL M 18 R3 with a RTX 5080 that will make me hardware proof for the next 6 years! I will cost as much as a M4 Max with 64 GB. Maybe upgrade Apple with the next revision to a M5 Pro if needed?
Finally someone who compared these two! M1 Pro here with 13 PM ecosystem. Hoping to upgrade to M4 hopefully during the shopping season if I can get a deal. Hopefully I can add that 16PM to the ecosystem. Thanks for the comparison! Cheers
I use Clip Studio Paint and Rebelle 7 Pro for art which need a lot of GPU capability as well as ram. An upgrade from my Mac Mini to M4 Pro would be major. However, I probably will go with M4 Max to get even more significant increase in GPU. Add to that games and the GPU is major in my deciding.
Hopefully I am going to buy a new Apple TV since I don't have one yet and I like the integration it would have with my other devices. I also recently picked up a new M4 Pro MBP, and so far its great!
It's good to see these gains from M1 to M4 chips, theses M4 family chips worth every penny and it will be a great upgrade even from M3 series chips as i think M5 chips will not have much gains as compared to M4 chips and Apple will most likely chanhe the design of MacBook but it will not be that value for money as M4 MacBooks are...
I would like to see someone measure the heat output of comparative machines. Have no airconditioning, so I might be tempted by machines that put out less heat. More battery life implies better efficiency, but would like someone to measure heat output.
A straight video export isn't exactly a great test anymore. It doesn't paint the full picture of whats going on. Apple silicon has built in media encoders that handle the export to video formats like H.264 or HEVC. Those hardware media encoders do most of the work which leaves a lot of the CPU and GPU left to handle effects processing. So just sticking video on a timeline and hitting export is not very indicative of how much faster a newer system can be. Can be is the key word. We have extra horse power for moments when we need it. Not to be used at 100% at all times. The M4 chips use much less CPU and GPU resources now because 4k video editing in general is insanely easy to handle these days. Especially on Apple Silicon that has built in hardware decoding and encoding. The part of the equation that used to eat up resources is no longer a factor. We now get to use most of our system for the funky stuff. The grading, animated effects, titles, multiple layers and so forth. Where that extra power matters more now is that funky Apple Intelligence processing like the Magnetic mask, auto grading computations, stabilizations, noise reduction and so forth. The stuff beyond normal cuts only editing and exporting. Those are the kind of benchmarks we need today for video editing. Right now just doing an export is like saying hey we can open a word document and it will scroll quickly as we need it to. Well yeah thats kind of a given these days. Heck FCP worked exceptionally well on a 8 GB M1 MBA binned model I had before a M1 Pro. It sucked for effects processing, noise reduction and 3D however. The kind of stuff that is the only tasks that actually utilize modern computing power today. Even on the game side higher end graphics cards are about moving from HD to 4k and cranking up realism. Graphics cards from over six years ago are already capable of a lot of games at decent HD settings. There really are diminishing returns on gaming GPUs now as well. Unless it's one of those people that insist on having 240 fps vs 180 fps and feel it actually helps them. Even that has diminishing returns. The jump from 15 fps to 30 fps is massive and makes a game somewhat playable. The jump from 30 fps to 60fps makes it fun. Every step higher has very minimal benefits. My point is it takes a very specific type of processing to really take advantage of modern hardware. The hardware has really surpassed the software in many cases. I also use Blender for 3D GPU rendering and thats honestly one of the very few apps on the planet that really benefits from the M4 Pro. Its 5.3x faster than my M1 Pro. Not everyone does 3D animation however and when they do it's likely not every day. Even if they do it likely makes more sense to use an online render farm service to meet deadlines vs spending days rendering at home. We may even reach a point that 3D animation rendering reaches a good enough point. We kind of already have in many cases. Especially with the newer renderers that sacrifice ultra realism for massive speed like the Eevee renderer in Blender. Its getting a lot more realistic and the gap is shrinking.
It's what I plan to do. I was tempted by the high numbers in benchmarks, but I never felt the need of more power with my M1 Pro and the rest of the computer is basically the same. Once we get new screens, design, etc It will be the time to buy a new one.
If I was still in the professional content production world I would be updating to the M4 MacBook Pro minimum. Thing is I am a normal with my Apple MacBook Air M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory, 2TB SSD storage - $1,999.00 US 3/2020. Since I use my M1 for content consumption like this clip. Do not see myself purchasing a new Mac until 2027.
Will only upgrade the MacBook as soon as they release oled display and make sdr brightness 1200 nits indoors and outdoors, like in the newest iPad Pro m4
I want to get a M4 Pro Mac Mini but those overpriced upgrades makes me feel scammed. I understand the price tag between processor tiers, more cores are kind of expensive, but 200usd for 500gb storage or 12gb unified memory is too much. By the point I have a somewhat capable config for my workflow Is no longer a good deal, but the other way around.
M1 still a good processor in 2024 for basic task or little bit of video editing, but I am interesting in the give away. I really need a phone because my old phone's display shows double pink line and it is increasing slowly. At my present situation I can't afford to change the display. Just for kindness, is there any way to win this give away?
There’s a new m1 pro 14 16gb ram 1tb 10 core cpu 16 gpu for 1200$ where I live , the m2< are all 1600$< M4 is 2000$ What you think feel like its a little too old but can’t afford the rest
Even to this day, M1 Pro with those specs for 1200$ is still a great deal! Maybe you if you can negotiate and get it close to 1000$ or 1100$, you can close your eyes and go for the M1 Pro. It will be still good for another 3-4 years and doing that is better cuz when the time comes to upgrade from your M1 Pro, lets say after 3 years, you’ll be getting a hell lot more by then. Instead if you get the M4 Pro somehow, you can not justify upgrading from it for another 5 years at least, and you have to resist your urge to upgrade after 3 years. Trust me, I have a 14’ M1 Pro, I got it for about 1000$k a few months ago, it is still blazingly fast, it doesn’t break a sweat no matter how hard I push it, but because the M4 Pro sounds like it has twice the power(on paper) I feel like I should upgrade, but I have to spend another 2000$ now, that is not logical for me because my 14’ M1 Pro can keep up with whatever I throw at it for another 2-3 years at least! Save your money, get the M1 Pro at 1000$ while you can still find it. Upgrade once they change the chassis or screen after about 2-3 years.
Will you be looking to potentially upgrade?
* I meant 16 cores not 18 on M4 Pro GPU
@@MattTalkTech yes from a windows to m4 air
🔝
No since I have m3 pro still works super fast
Hell yeah
I am still very happy with my M1 Pro for what it still does without breaking a sweat. Mac Mini Pro is more likely at this point.
Exactly the review I was waiting for since I have M1 Pro MBP. Thanks for not forgetting about those of us with older M1s!
I ain't upgrading my m1 pro 16 lol. this thing gotta last at least a decade
They are still amazing
Whats the storage config?
Am with you bro.
Remember these 4 letters: MILF😂 Make It Last Forever
Facts!
Can’t wait for the M4 Air
Me too!
When do you think it will be released?

I could definitely think of one thing I do need to upgrade and it's my iPhone, but my priority is for an iPad Pro M4 before Christmas.
No need to upgrade from M1 pro or M1 max. We'll wait for M5 or M6 chips and hardware upgrades. For now we still good.
still would not be 100% faster and no full keyboard and 19inch screen. just small and cost more than what we allready had decades

Cool vid! Looking to get my hands on iPhone 17 pro max next year!
The video I wanted to see. I ended up getting m4 pro MacBook Pro and trading in my M1 Pro. take my sub
I’m planning to buy the new iMac or the new MacBook Pro still need to decide which one is better for my educational career

Could you create a video comparison between the 16-inch M1 Pro and M4 Max MacBook Pro models?
I have a M1 Macbook Air (2020). Should I upgrade?
Nice, I voted for the M4 Pro MBP, with 48GB ram and 2TB SSD.
Ill be looking to invest in a new M4 Mini. This machine has reached a new level of maturity and performance, and it is a worthy buy.
I might consider switching when they release the 2nm chip 🤔
I think I will upgrade from M1 Pro because the next iteration in M5 pro will only see an increase we saw from M2 to M3.
I got the m4 pro 48GB, it's frustrating that they don't offer 64GB
went from no laptop to M4 pro 16 base model! i really want iphone 16 or 17 gonna be a big one

Hopefully I will buy a new iMac so I can optimize my school studies
Will be getting m3 mackbook pro in December
I want to buy the m4 iPad Pro (hopefully for the end of the year) and the pink m4 iMac for next year☺️
I would love a M4 Pro MBP, that would be nice
Well, I will get new airPods for sure to help me with my hearing specially that it can replace your hearing aids. 👍❤

been debating upgrading my M1 Pro MBP to a M4 Pro MBP ... but I think I'll hold out 2 years til OLED to upgrade and just pick up an M4 Mac mini

I’m happy with MacBook Pro M1 no need to upgrade just yet
will be buying a macbook pro m4!
subscribed. Don't intend to buy m4 pro mbp. If I have more denser computing demand, i'd use online server.
I will upgrade M1 Pro once we get the OLED displays

I am going to buy an Apple watch series 10 will be a huge upgrade from series 3
I feel there is need to come with new smartwatch design and type as current design have become monotonous.
Time to upgrade from the M1MBA to the M4 Pro MB.
Things to purchase now is M4 Ipad pro or Iphone 16pro max or apple watch.
i`ml looking for my next mac mini.
I think im buying the Apple Watch series 10 by the end of the year

gaming laptops are well-known to be super efficient with good battery life so you should get that one!
I'm buying MBP M1PRO 2022 MODEL
Looking at trading in my M1 Pro for the new M4 Pro by December 2024
I should feel safe in upgrading from my 2016 MacBook Pro.
🎉🎉🎉yes definitely worth for upgrade ❤❤❤

iPhone 16 and/or M4 pro laptop for me

I did it! have been smiling ever since. Apple really made this version of the "Pro" chip a real Pro chip.
Just upgraded M1 Pro to m4 pro. How you finding the difference?
@ Significant differences. This version of the Pro chip is the first version to live up to its name
