What some people don’t realize is that in the body repair world, sometimes if it’s too many hours to repair a panel, then it’s more time and cost effective to replace it.
And you can bet, as soon as some insurance company gets involved, they demand the most cost effective repair to be done that will not diminish the vehicle value.
You make it look easy, but it takes good eyesight knowledge and of course skill and patience, really good to watch but very hard to replicate, well done fella
It takes a very special talented person to do Quality bodywork !!! After I worked for a couple body shops , I opened my own small body shop . Quality of work spreads word of mouth which is the best advertisement ever !!! I soon only did collector , antique , race and show vehicle's as word of mouth spread my highly quality work . That kept me so busy I turned regular vehicles away !! I had customers waiting for me to do their vehicle's so I never went without work at my door to get done !! If you're damn good , work will come to you !!! You don't need to pay for advertisement at all . Just do excellent quality work !!! Then you get to pick and choose your work !! This guy makes it look simple , but it's really not and it's an art !!!!
I do this every day ,for the last 40+ years, good video, shows everybody what it really takes to do it ,yes people we do not have any magic wands, its just plain hard work!!!
This guy is good! 👍 Try using a wet rag to rapidly cool the metal when you’re shrinking it. I’ve used a rosebud tip a wet towel to shrink the metal back.
It amazes me all the tools of the trade you have access to. Now knowing this, I'm not sure how the pre-damaged pickup I bought is being repaired whether a new bed panel or use of tools to make repair. I don't care either way as long as the finished product looks factory new again. As for whether I would've bought this pickup truck initially had I known about the damaged bed, I might not have but learning of the damage after the fact then watching your video's helped educate me about the process in restoring damaged vehicles and for that a learning experience and confidence when I made the appointment to have it fixed. The body shop said my pickup will be ready next Wednesday and I cannot wait.
This is awesome ... Im taking a course on body repair and this took us a total of 20 classes 3 hours each... on one fender ...... Hope i can be this good someday ..
It all depends on customer and shop / insurance I’m talking about repairing I used to replace mostly everything I started at another shop they want to repair everything makes no difference to me anymore watch out for pinholes lol good job brother
Nice video, awesome work! As for the title question, I repair only things I cannot replace, or i love too much. Cost is the factor, whether you choose to repair or replace...as an older guy told me once "When you make something for yourself is art, when you make something for another it is work"
@@nigelhopkinson6614 the quarter panel alone has eight while the door has six and the rocker five, plus some R&I time of three. I'm being conservative on the time which is how insurance companies are these days.
Jesus christ where are yall from I own a shop here in South East Texas I have a job in my shop right now not close to this much damage all just repair no replacing anything with 30 hours bodybtime on it
So nice to see it done the right way... almost didn't even notice the change between different grit sandpaper... actually showed a lot for people that know... what was sprayed before the primer though?? Etch primer or adhesion promoter??
dad was a well as they called back in day body and fender man remember seeing cars that had been rolled..he would straighten out ..frame too..no bondo ..he thought that was for wimps..sand block off and paint
Hey Kyle, Im an Auto Collision instructor here in Maine and love showing your videos to my students. We would really like to get the dent pulling tool you use at 7:09 in this video. What make and model is your machine? 110v or 220v?
Todays standards are faster than traditional also materials have improved overall but files are still used in restoration shops that work metal but very few i stopped due to the cost and efficiency of todays methods
Used to have several Vixen files in the drawer and 2 Viking air files. Was a full fledged combo man for years and had to know everything from frame to finish as they say. I don't even see anyone using a cheese grater to rough in the filler. Totally different world today, much to my chagrin.
Looks like the ole, left the road, clipped the culvert.(hence rocker panel) then, casually plowed thru a mailbox post and or sign post or both. Then finally, finished the text message that started this chain of events, and uh, yeah, great job!
P.s. damage looks like a sideswipe from a larger vehicle, my 2015 Mustang had very similar damage (plus a bent A pillar) when I got sideswiped by a Toyota Tacoma 4x4. Unfortunately, the insurance totaled it out due to the A pillar damage 😕
Attention all body techs. Be as good as he is for the love of god! I'm a painter and we come a dime a dozen, but a good body man is worth their weight in gold!
I believe his is an old Eagle II, but there’s new ones like The Maxi- part number is DF-505 I believe a brand called shark makes one as well but in a 110v version, the maxi is a 220v
I like and subscribe to your videos, you are a damn prodigy for one and for two, what is your opinion of 99-06 Chevy and gmc trucks, they all rust all generations but that gen seems to be the worst, why???
While many are fooled here thinking this is a quality repair , I assure you it is not . This tech does do excellent work , but there are few steps that were over looked and unseen . First is using a DTM primer and not sealing the bare metal with epoxy . While many will argue DTM primer is fine over bare metal , Just wait a few years and the rust will prove my point. Also anywhere you use the dent puller , you are welding the tip to the body , the inside of the panel is now burnt and the factory corrosion protecting is gone . That has to be prepped and sealed also . Never use a sharpie on body , it will bleed thru . Many shops operate like this , basically just putting lipstick on a pig .
Yeah you showed us that you know how to paint but it would also help if you start showing us like what kind of sanpaper you used so we can start learning something from you all…
I mean it's kinda cool seeing the work But, wouldn't it be easier to just remove the panel and bang out the dents from the underside? In an ideal world I'm sure Its feasible However, I'm sure that would be more work than it's worth than to do it the way shown in the video. As the panels are made and bound as one piece
I love Kyle. I'm not bashing him. But this is more like a cave and pave. Very little to no metal to knock down after 1st coat. Also a partial skim coat of filler rarely works. Unless you have high build primer. And that shrinking technique is not necessary on today's thin metals. I use a very small torch and rarely have the metal change colors. It's just not nessacerry now a days. Just my opinion

Great now I'm addicted to this
Nice work, that spot puller looks like a good piece of kit.
That poor Veloster.
I absolutely love these, one of the most fun modern hatches you can get in the US currently. Specifically the Veloster N.

Where did u get that dent puller from?
I'm figuring twenty to twenty five hours on that job, not bad for a one day job turnaround. You have great skills and consistent work ethics.
Metal work I I doubt it, he would have been lucky to have got 10 hrs ?

Can you drop the link for the frame puller and the dent puller and what brand sander do you use ?

Hey. Why is the first coat of filler yellow and the second one blue? Also. What was the first thing you sprayed unto the metal before the Grey primer?
Enjoyed your video. What was the tool you used that made a clicking sound?
Great work!
I've never seen primer that shiny once it dries. Unless mixed incorrectly. Then again we're not using the same products. You did a great job btw.

I'm retired now but wonder why no one seems to use s body file anymore ? Still a great way to pick highs and lows.
Because nowadays the panels on a car are very thin metal and a file would go right through
Todays standards are faster than traditional also materials have improved overall but files are still used in restoration shops that work metal but very few i stopped due to the cost and efficiency of todays methods
Old school

I work in a factory as a metal finisher use picks and files all day long no such thing as filler for me
Is that a 3/8 ratchet for the door removal or 1/4? For the electric milwaukee one u used?
What grit sand paper do you start and end with before primer?
Is that a 220 or a 110 dent puller? Trying to figure out if there's much of a difference between the two.
I need your skills. Nicely done
Your skill and dedication is just amazing. where i live, everybody does shity job. It is like there is competition going on for the shity paint jobs.
Where is this at 🤔
?
Have a question is there a better bundle or anyting
What size tip did you use for your primer
Great job!
What is the name of your dent puller I need one like that in my shop
What do you call that type of sorta stud gun used in the beginning? Was that a shrinker type harmer used on the door?

What's the product ur useing for second time as body filler?
Why do you do sanding dry ?? We do wet sanding in Nepal. What's the difference between these two ??
Muy buen trabajo..
Молодец,хорошая работа,какую шпатлёвку используете?
What's the tool he uses to grind the welds off ?
Whats the difference in the 2 car fillers? The green and yellow..... or is it just the colouring?
Very good djobe 👍👍👍👍
Looks easy edited for time.....it’s not, at least done right like you did here. Nice.
Honestly, I think you should replace that; but, repair is call you can make, standing next to the car. Anyway, great work, content, all that stuff.🎉😮😅
Great to see heat shrinking.
name of ur's sanding tool please!
Please do a "Tools" video and another "Tips of the Trade " video, Thanks
Did this for 20 years glad I got out of it, probably made hour for hour on a job like that...
How many hours were you quoted for this whole job?
If its dented in why cant you just fill it and sand it?
Def a pretty penny💯
Great work he makes it look so easy which trust me its not

What kind of welding gun dent puller is that please?.
That’s a Eagle Dent Puller... there are some others out there as well, just search sent puller and you will see some options

What’s the tan putty and then the light green? I want to be great like him.
What is the electric welding tool that he uses to pull on the small dents called ?

If I bought a new-ish car that was in an accident, I wouldn't want "repaired" panels, I want NEW panels. Less body filler the better!
4:00 - FORKLIFT...?
Can fix it and should fit it👌👌
What brand and model is that spot welding device is that? It looks helpful and you are not having to place a new stick for each weld? Sub+1
Just get a Tig welder😂 that tool was so cool. I've only experienced similar thing when welding and dipping the tungsten rod into the weld
What is the difference of the 2 different fillers u used ?
One is thick one is thin
How many coats of primer ? (Hi fill)
Probably the usual 3 coats over repairs and 1 or 2 on surrounding areas
Why are people even complaining? Youd actually want the parts to be changed not repaired
Try MAPP gas on your torch next time. It gets hotter than propane.

In some places you can do that but generally you don’t want to do that bc the metal will become bloated and loose it’s strength.
