    Just a tip, most of those cartridge filters have anti drain back valves that hold a good bit of oil. When you take the filter out it drains the oil back into the sump and you can get more of the dirty oil out if you do it first.

    2nd the thought of loosening both fill cap and oil filter cover to allow oil to drain back to sump before draining system. Makes for a cleaner filter change! I'd also suggest bolting the base cover plate on last after running/topping up oil to make sure there are no leaks. It also allows any cleanup of filter oil spilling. Good video, well done!

      I have no idea on the oil pump, I suspect it's mechanical based on the fact that the entire engine is gear driven, no belts to change. Even the alternator and A/C compressor is shaft and gear driven. 91 octane minimum, I use 93 here but 91 is all I could get in California where I bought it.

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it was about 6.25 L I ended up adding. Results will vary depending how much you actually drained. The notification of red to overfilled is around or less than 1 L so you have to be quite careful about that. Temperature at which it's checked is also a bit variation in the gauge. The O-rings were a bulk pack I got at Harbor Freight, the only place that had such a thing locally. Now that I know the size needed I could source them elsewhere. The copper and aluminum crush washers I got from Amazon, nobody had them locally. McLaren charges something like $5-6 per washer, you can buy a pack of 15 like I did for that much. I'll never have to buy those washers again unless I start servicing McLaren's at my house!

    • @skynetsworld
      @skynetsworld 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me it seems weird, that you can only find out, that you don't have enough oil in the engine after starting and running it for at least 40 seconds. Maybe it is just me, but i 'd like to know BEFORE. What is wrong with the good old dipstick? Too easy and precise? I know dry sump is different, but the AMG SLS has a dry sump and a dipstick!?
      This construction which not exactly looks like something i call thought through let me come to the conclusion that i rather catch and weigh the amount of old oil, to know how much fresh oil i'd have to refill, just to be safe. At least the first time i do the oilchange on a unfamiliar type of car.

      I thought it was quite odd how that is labelled, but it means it is OK but the highest side of OK. If you show the orange color while hot it's fine but if you have it orange while just barely warm enough to check the level, when it gets hotter it will read overfill.

      $5k a year for a warranty, which doesn't cover oil changes or annual maintenance of any kind. It also has to be certified, can't be modified, and must be to their requirements for the ability to get the warranty. If they inspect it and find something that doesn't qualify, you have to pay to fix it to pay to get the extended warranty. Mine is tuned, it won't qualify, nor do I care because I do all the work as needed and I haven't had anything to concern me.

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did mine when I did the downpipes and I ended up not doing a video on that because I forgot to record parts. You have to remove the side engine panels, unplug the coil packs, 10mm bolt on each coil pack, and have a crazy flexible setup on the rachet to pull them out and put them in. It's very time consuming and the first time is quite difficult to figure out the appropriate extensions to make it work. The two plugs being blocked by the subframe on each side are the most difficult to get to, you can't see them while you're doing it.

      It's identical for the 650s and 675LT. The 570s should be very similar (I haven't done one to tell you what's different up top, the bottom should be the same, checking oil level is a little different I think). The 720s I suspect will be a little different as the M840T is a different engine but McLaren likes to make things the same across models.

    • @EMFAudio
      @EMFAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So hard? Owners are shocked at how easy it is when they find out. It's not uncommon to not have a dipstick, my 2005 Mercedes didn't have one and checking the oil level was more difficult. As far as filling and draining goes, it's no different than anything else modern, other than getting the filter out is difficult if you're short. It's also worth noting that a once a year service shouldn't be expected to be the easiest thing to do on the car, like adding coolant or brake fluid.

    This uses a Mercedes engine right ? You forgot to have the engine temp set at flesh searing to allow the hot oil to carry out contaminates and blister your skin. Also remember kids, allow your engine to reach operating temps and hold it there for twenty min to allow moisture to escape into the breather system. Short tripping your oil combined with extended oil change intervals is the number one reason you have to come see me to get new pistons and timing chain assemblies every 60 k 😉.
