  • This video is the will show disassembly to remove the cab from the chassis on a 2007 Ford Powerstroke. In previous videos, I replaced the EGR & oil coolers only to find the head gaskets have failed.

    I discovered a way to remove the 6.0 heads without removing the cab. Loosen one motor mount, lift that side up with a jack until the head clears enough to remove that head. Then do the same for the other side. Done!! No more bleeding brakes, power steering , ac lines and undoing all those wire harnesses and emergency brake line and radiator parts.

    It's a common problem with these 6.0 liter Powerstroke's. Especially with the factory torque to yield head bolts. That's why you hear a lot about people installing head studs.

    Thanks for leaving a comment! In my opinion, the 6.4lit is junk! The lower end is very weak compaired to the 6.0lit. As for the 6.7lit, this one Ford did right and I love it! They have been very reliable and have no serious problems. The only problems I have seen have been on chassis cab models only.

    to remove the cab its about an hour for guys who do it all the time about 3 for a first timer, but you will save a shit ton of time with the cab off in my opinion, also get a much cleaner repair, the extra money for the cab is worth it

    You can do the heads with cab down but u have to pull hvac box and take the 2 nut s loose on trans mount so u can jack up trans to tilt engine so the back head bolt on drivers side can be removed

    Thanks for the great comment. If your still using coolant, theres a problem! Keep an eye on the oil level, it could be entering into the crankcase. It is also possible that you may a EGR cooler that could be leaking. As for the Ecoboost, what an awesome engine. The direct injection is much more efficent. So far, I have only worked on the Ecoboost in class. In the real world, they are working great with no problems at all!

    Head gaskets also fail due to restriction in the oil cooler. The head gaskets will not just reseal with studs. The gaskets have a bonded seal and comes apart.

    If your using stock OEM head bolts, no you do not have to remove the cab. The head gaskets can be replaced with the cab on!

    I have a 2008 F350 with the dreaded 6.8L.. It actually runs pretty good but the roller follower snd lash adjusters need changing.. The manual says to remove the engine mounts on the passenger side and loosen the mounts on the driver side, remove the exhaust at the cats and lift the motor to get the passenger side valve cover off.. My Lord! Might it be easier to remove the cab bolts on the passenger side, loosens the cab bolts on the driver side and then jack up the cap just a couple inches and maybe pull it over to the passenger side an inch or so.. Seems you won't have to disconnect much of anything and get the room you need to get that back end of the passenger side valve cover out..Am I being naive? Thanks for sharing your videos..

    The truck in the video had the head gaskets fail due to the owner loosening the cap for the cooling system. That cause the engine to run hot and the heat allowed the head bolts to strech causing the gaskets to fail.

    The cab does not have to be removed to replace the head gaskets. It is a tight squeeze to rear the LR head bolt though and the head are heavy to just carry off.

    Good evening, I don't have a video showing the timing chain cassette replacement on the 4.0lit SOHC. I do know how to perform this, but I just haven't done one since I started my videos. It is a great engine, but to time the engine, you must have all the special tools and even then, it is a very difficult repair for those who are not experienced with this engine. If not performed correctly, engine damage will occur. I will record the next one I do!

    Lots of early miss conceptions on these motors. Early problems were miss diagnosed so dealers started throwing turbos, injectors etc. not knowing that there was other problems. Yes they have issues but i've had five of them and very few problems. Not a ford design completely more of international. Also due to emissions created much more heat and this was the problem basically

    I recently blew a turbo on my 05 6.0 and was going replace it with an aftermarket and am going to go ahead and put head studs in. I've heard from more than one person that if I don't have head gasket problems I can just pull old studs out and put new ARP studs in without taking head off is there any truth to this or do I need to remove heads??? I would greatly appreciate your feedback on this matter

      This video is simply to get the cab off, not 100% specificly ford head gaskets. What you do once you get the cab off is your deal, not ours. Examples:
      *head studs
      *head gaskets
      *injectors
      *head replacement
      *etc...

    Yo, i got a 6.0 that have got some problems after i went to a "EU Control" here in Norway, they figured out to run the engine to te rev.lim under a exhaust test and that was so brilliant that it resulted in the engine to vibrate and coff while driving down the road, the engine also coff alot when it's just standing there on idle. i think they blew a injector or two, have you any knowlegde on this? it would be awesome for an answer!
    Thanks!

    • @Chris-tw4jm
      @Chris-tw4jm 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      My dad and I are doing injectors as we speak, and we are taking the cab off, and the replacing all 8 injectors with factory ones, so they are reliable:) a local diesel shop will tell you exactly what's wrong because they have a "computer" that plugs into a port, and reads out things.
      I reccomend doing this list while the cab is off:
      *head gaskets, and studs
      *injectors of your choice
      *powermaxx turbo
      *coolant filter
      *clutch (if a manual)
      And anything else personal preference

      I'm going to bulletproof it :) no reason to joke around with the 6.0, it's a great machine, and it's rare here with a 6.0 in Norway, and with 500hp now it outruns standard salooncars EASY, but not recommended here when the roads are shit :P

    well you don't have to pull cab for that...pull tranny, remember to take out ur dipstick made that mistake once. unbolt and pull torque converter, pull flywheel and bam there's your rear seal. the new seals require a special tool to remove and another to insert and they're $200+ each...not hard just a PITA.. i did mine in my driveway, but i also had a catastrophic STC failure and had to anyways

    • @bobbyjohnnascar
      @bobbyjohnnascar 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You just said it , what owner has the equipment / place / know how to completely remove the cab from their truck. Making it a necessity to PAY BIG for ALL the labor to have a shop do it and the work needed after the cab is removed. Also crossing their fingers that the work is done correctly. Someone needs to design a tilt front end for these trucks like commercial trucks have. By the way what would be the cost to just R&R cab be??

    • @Bspstroke_
      @Bspstroke_ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Bobby John that's what makes the 6.0 a mechanics special, low cost to buy a nice truck with great power and a couple grand to make it very reliable. The engine was designed by international for a school bus so ford did the best they could to fit it. Cab removal is about 1.5 hrs and putting it back on is around 2-3, so at 100$ labor that's around 400$. Idk what labor is these days but after cab removal it makes the rest of the work a lot quicker. A tilt front end would be nice though like on semis.
