    Aight, so I'm a Colombian guy who used to live in the same neighborhood David lives and I can say, he's pretty much spot on on his views 'bout Colombian manners. Every video he makes is just a flashback to my time there. Loved it, hope it'd be back. Enjoy Colombia! Stay safe and listen to advice

      You also use your thumb to signal thank you or all good to drivers when you cross. In Guadalajara they do not do that. Also, talking about haircuts, one slang they have for cutting your hair or the lawn / grass might make you worried. They use "motilar" which means cut a wrist or head off. I heard this after being there for only one or two weeks and was thinking that the caballero did not appreciate my gringo presence. In Antioquia it just means cut your hair. Sometimes I joke with tapatios about that. I am really looking forward to returning next year. I would like to spend some time in Pereira Risaralda, Manizales Caldas and Ibague Tolima and maybe a bit in Bucaramanga Santander. This time with the more open environment I will be able to work on my salsa and bachata.

    Also -
    The reason why in marketplaces, where they tie the bag, is to prevent some items getting stolen from open bags.
    I remember a few times when i shopped with my mom, i used to carry her bags for her, untied. Then late on, i find a few kids playing around where we would walk and noticed too late one would try to go behind us and snatch a few stuff from the bag, while the rest would distract us.

    Another great video David! When I was in Colombia a few months ago, there was another question I was constantly asked at grocery stores and restaurants when paying with my credit card. I believe that asked, “cauantos pagos?” The first time I was asked, I said that I was not sure what they were wanting to know and they told me I could select how many payments I wanted to make. I understood it to mean that I could have them break the charges to my card up over a specified amount installments, but I am not 100% sure. I always said 1.

    • @LifewithDavid
      @LifewithDavid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's another thing they ask and might be confusing. Saying one is the right answer. They are asking how many quatas or payments do you want to pay, ofcourse more than one has interest included.

    Funny about being patient… I have an Italian friend (born in Canada) who moved to Italy after university to do his MBA and then work and he said the hardest thing to get used to was how long everything took to get done lol. Opening a bank account was an all-day affair rather than 15-30 minutes like it is in Canada.

    David - This is the format that made you stand out from other youtubers - Also the fact that you concentrate on Colombia, it’s business model, it’s culture, etc. - I think you filled in a void that was in TH-cam and it makes you stand out from all the American guys who film in Medellin and for the most part it’s just garbage- BTW, I’m Colombian (Mom’s family from Medellin and Dad’s family from Cali) AND my wife is Tex-Mex Chicana.

    All good stuff and all stuff I've observed in Colombia. It is funny that when you visit as a vacationer the slower pace and idiosyncrasies are cute. Maybe even a part of what draws you to Colombia. But I would imagine when you live there and it creeps into every aspect of your every day life it takes a different tone. Like the waiting. I see lines everywhere there and people patiently waiting. And I think oh look it's so nice how orderly people wait. But when I'm the one in those lines and it's for everything I know it will take an effort to deal with. In any event a very useful video.Good luck to you on your passport processing.

    Do you know anyone who does Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Medellin? I remember on one of your live videos, someone was friends with the owner of Gracie Barra in Medellin.
    EDIT: In the chat someone was mentioning it.

    So you can have a 6 month visa? After that do you have to leave to renew it? What is the longest visa you can have without any problems?
