Loved the whole video. The "boring" uncut videos like this are the best, it makes you feel like you're siting in the middle row looking over the pilots shoulder as they do their checklists and approach. Only 21 but this aircraft is probably my dream. Got to build wealth first (not necessarily born into it) as these twins aren't exactly easy on the wallet. I'm an aerospace design engineer just finishing college soon. Not much but if I own my home and have 0 debt I think I can pick one of these puppies up. I just hope they're still around and flying in 20+ years so our generation can enjoy them. They really are a special aeroplane.
I have been an aviation enthusiast all my life and my favorite aircraft has always been the Piper Aerostar (particularly the Superstar with upgraded engines) It seems to me that pilot Eric Reese probably has the best job on the planet and it is an absolute pleasure to watch him make this speedbird sing. The TH-cam video of his flawless landing on the postage stamp sized runway at WA-6 is a must see, and I find all of his video posts enjoyable beyond measure. An excellent pilot who flies the hell out of an excellent airplane.
Great video, and a great job. You’re a great pilot. I appreciate videos like this, while they seem a little boring on the surface, as I’ve recently totally fallen in love with Aerostars & will be looking to buy one later in the year. With 6000+ hrs in large, 4 engines aircraft, I’m a systems kinda guy, so watching you operate the various ones while single-piloting an an IFR flight plan is exactly the video I’m looking for. More of these please! Gorgeous airplane, by the way!
This is proof that older guys can’t sleep while brains are over-active... you posting after midnight or my watching this a 4AM? Best video you created yet...
On the surface the prices seem reasonable however what we have been finding is there is a lot of deferred maintenance on those. A good Super 700 should be valued around $500k or so with good avionics. If you buy one for $200k you will put another 300k into it over the next few years getting it to where you want it. One of the things that get neglected are hoses, they get dry and crack.
is it really so quite inside as it sounds of is it audio from the headphones with ANC applied ? Great airplane anyway ! Here from another aviation channel who's posting spotting in Nelson BC. Didn't know about this plane before. Cheers !
I've been thinking about the suitability of the 702P for charter work. If you don't mind, what is the true Useful Load? And, is the aux tank "standard" on the 702P? Also, what is the range/alternate profile fuel fuel, at FL280, with 1200 lbs (includes pilot)? By the way, at 14:50, it looks like you extended the flaps well above the white arc. What is the max flap extension speed?
If you message me with your email I can send you some info. First off the 702P is a designation Aerostar gave to their converted 602P with TIO540 U2A engines, 6850 # GW and 5.5psi cabin along with a King KFC225 AP. Any of the 350 horse conversions with the 6850 GW will be adequate. N11111 is one of the heaviest with an EW of 4802# that equates 2048# useful load. Some I have flown have an EW in the 4600# range. With the three standard tanks full you can still put 1125 in the cabin. The aux tank hold another 44gal usable for your calcs. For a flight at FL200 at 55% power your TAS will be 220kts on a standard day. You will have 3.5 hours endurance which will give you a 620 nm range with 60 min reserve. If you load the aux tank that will give you 5 hrs of endurance and a range of 868 nm with 60 min reserve. Hope that helps.
There is one EDM 500 for each engine. These are the old units which display CHT EGT TIT RPM MP Oil Press, Fuel Press and more. I have to step through each EGT or CHT so see the temps for the associated cylinder.
Hey Eric ! Love the videos ! I’ve been hunting a twin to take family trips in like a griswald family truckster, I’m still a ways ( a yearish) from a purchase , my CFI recommended the Aerostar , we’ve been window shopping Baron 55’s and Aztecs , but it seems the Aerostar is starting to come into the same price range for about the same hours on the engines . How’s the short field performance? So we wanted to do a fly in to a small field or even a grass strip ? I like the range and I’d like a pressurized one to do trips to Florida etc ( Midwestern boy here ) Thanks , Evan
I recommend joining the Aerostar-Owners.com association. Well worth the annual fee. Also check into insurance ahead of time. Recommend Lance VanWormer at CS&A. He is the leading insurance expert with Aerostars. (615) 435-8295

Nice approach. I liked the power settings, airspeeds, ILS profile.
This seems to work well for this aircraft
Congratulations.
Such a wonderful flight with your father and allowing us to share his experience al Aerostar with Ted Smith.
God Bless You.
I just got hired by a charter airline. Videos like this helped me along the way. I hope you keep posting content like this for future pilots!

Nice and appropriate use of automation during a busy short flight👍

Thanks. I am trying to make the content a little less boring :)

I was asleep when this published. I let the editing software post it for me. But you at 4am watching is another story.
The narration was excellent! Thanks for letting us ride along.
Nice flight👍
this plane is a beast huh? Unreal cruising speed.
Lot of reasonable priced super 700's on market currently. I also see the aerostar 850 single engine turbine conversion is back in the skies.

November 111...11... 1... how many ones again?
Beautiful

Have you ever heard of anyone doing an IO-580 upgrade to the 600 non turbo series. I would love to see the perf numbers if they have.

Hello from Siberia!) I cannot understand, how do you see engine temperature per each cylinder?

NO MORE 787's at PAE now :(
I never really liked the Aerostars...............because I'm the one who had to fix them.
