one of the best demonstrations of relaxed fluidity inside of a fast complex meter....... absolut high level mastership of one of the top players of this planet!
Been a huge fan of Gergo for a few years now, really glad he's finally getting a decent amount of 'mainstream' attention in the drum community being the master that he is. Also, great job on the production Beatltpl, awesome camera and editing work.
I couldn't have said it better myself... one of the best "unknown" drummers out there is finally getting his due. The guy's chops are shake-your-head ridiculous...
This like most Zappa compositions is soooo much more complex to play than it sounds no matter how simple the idea may be. If you don't have a strong internal metronome and a solid grasp of the composition. Nice playing you've got my subscription!
oh, this is an old comment i´m replying to, i hope you´re still there - i agree, especially to that "strong internal metronome" - i recently found this drummer and i thought the very same thing about him and also, perhaps even more, about the band: th-cam.com/video/Jd1X5JWaGgQ/w-d-xo.html i hope you enjoy it as much as i do, haha... :-) best wishes from a more bad than even mediocre drummer from germany (i´m more like this, haha: th-cam.com/video/RMYIMJxiRJ0/w-d-xo.html)
The tune alternates between 4/4, 19/16, and 21/16 time signatures. Amazingly, the original tune was recorded in its entirety in one live take, with no punch-ins or overdubs! Go Vinnie!
Yes indeed. :-) Studio work has changed so much since things went digital. 'Ordinary' players can be made to sound extraordinary, now, but back when Frank was working it was all analogue and tape was expensive stuff to waste; you had to start out bloody brilliant and then get better because Mr Zappa expected no less. Vinnie's famous take set a terrifyingly high standard, but then getting the Zappa gig was a pretty scary thing in itself! Yes, lot of today's drummers can play the 'Greasy' part, but it's the originator that counts - in all sorts of weird time signatures. As you say: GO, VINNIE!
You don't have to count to 19. He's dividing up his 19 into smaller groups of 2s and 3s. 2+2+3+2+3+2+2+3. You can divide those groups of smaller groups into even smaller groups of groups too. 2+2+3 (7/16) 2+3 (5/16) 2+2+3 (7/16) Repeat infinitely.
One of those guys that is so competent he seems fake. Just makes everything look so easy and he's playing such complex stuff. Crazy... More glory to God.
@kostoglotov73 yep, these are pathetic efforts to make believe, he could play - sheeesh! i come from a musical family, and, yes, you should see my uncle play, that´s drumming: th-cam.com/video/RMYIMJxiRJ0/w-d-xo.html see what i mean?
isn't it a 19 made up of a 9 and a 10 not belittling it , its quite some thing but I can not hear a 4/4 , or any of the other times mentioned in comments , stand to be corrected
***** I think it's either 5/8 or 10/16, depending on what the counting's like, its definitely a multiple of 5, the tempo is probably WAY lower than that, most likely around the 160 range.
I saw Gergo play this yesterday in a different video and absolutely no criticism about his playing at all (of course!) but I really didn't like those cymbals, especially that hi-hat.
That base repeating over and over had my brain hurt! This was a waste. Borlai is a great drummer, but this music literally limited him. I know he chose to play that, but why?
Turn it down! Turn it DOWN!!! I have children sleeping here... Don't you boys know any nice songs? ....i'll add: with "humanly possible" rythm, pleazzz!!.... Holy Poney!!!😶

Great performance! The 602's sound amazing!
Monster! Jamming along with my guitar the second time along - always loved this jam on "Joe's Garage".
i could not believe my ears 💚
Gergo has set a very high bar for drummers!

Doing our best. Thank you for watching! :)

gergo, I absolutely love your style...you´re among the top ten best drummers

The guys playing and the kit sound r both unbelievable

As you say: GO, VINNIE!
@@EleanorPeterson Well, if you played with Zappa you definitely made the cut.
THE COUNT RIGHT... AM INBETWEEN A 12/8 + 7/4 123456,1234& 1. I STAND TO BE CORRECTED. LOLS!!!!
what a drummer! and a perfect sound
Holy geez ,...just awesome,.. I am an instant fan of Gergo,...I cant even count to 19,... ;)
The man knows his maths, that's for sure!

@@mr.z9609 ah. interesting. I would have never thought of it like this.
It sounds like the perfect groove ! Great !!!!
Goodness gracious !! I get tired just watching this !! Bravo Gergo
wow man, great job on this! Your ability to improvise over a groove this slick is really inspiring! Keep up the good work!
Gergo...the beast unleached ! Good job !
Drumcraft has seriously some of the best sounding drums I ever heard, great job
I'm thinking of buying a Lignum ltd editon oak 6.5x14 because the sound is just beautiful
The oak has 10ply and it's about 300 usd, but I like thinner shells, because the tunning range it's amazing
Revisiting this video. Gergo is a precision machine. You just can't do this with such precision and technique, but he does.
Awesome performance!!! ❤
Awesome intensity - love it!
Awesome stuff! I really want that play-along backing track to jam to.
Beautiful cymbals!
how are the people standing so still like "mm yes this is nice, honey :)™", if I was there I'd be off my face jumping up and down this is amazing
Absolute fantastic! Keep it up
One of those guys that is so competent he seems fake. Just makes everything look so easy and he's playing such complex stuff. Crazy... More glory to God.
Très joli, belle décoration
As technically able he really is, Gergo's playing stays always on the musical side
Bạn chơi drum hay quá, nhịp tốt. Rất linh hoạt !
I know with out a shout of a doubt he would be a beast on the Pearl Masterworks Kit's pearl the best reason why I play Drums 🥁 💪
Grazie.
wow gergo! zappa would be proud
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a monster I love him!
What can you say about a guy that practices with the goal of getting into Zappa's band. He would have KILLED it!
How I love this guy...
There is only one Gergo Borlai. Other comes far behind!
Awesome technically, yet also an awesome groove!
beszarááás! nagyon király! Gratulálok!
that is GD sick. great arrangement & love the intensity milestones. #balkanfusion #zappa
Ez a srác, a megtestesült zene.
Groovergo Borlai Amazing
I wish I had a drummer like him....
uh, yeah. Gergo rocks.
mind Blown !!
WOW Great job
semplicemente un grande!!
he finds really nice subdivisions and patterns
Funny. He plays for 25 years so far, and just five years known as a beast. As he is for ages...:D
Your probably thinking, I can do that.
And of course you can
Some day.
@kostoglotov73 yep, these are pathetic efforts to make believe, he could play - sheeesh!
i come from a musical family, and, yes, you should see my uncle play, that´s drumming: th-cam.com/video/RMYIMJxiRJ0/w-d-xo.html
see what i mean?
No I can’t!
Nope
WOW!!!

Ez nagyon komoly melo.Absulut top.
I gotta lie down NOW..holy crap!
This is awesome is there somewhere i can get this backing track for learning purposes:)?

Gergő, ezt az alapot valahonnan meg lehet szerezni?
Double U oh double U...WOW!
A N I M A L
this is bad ass, what can I say
He would absolutely have been in Zappa's band
Someone please transcribe this!
isn't it a 19 made up of a 9 and a 10 not belittling it , its quite some thing but I can not hear a 4/4 , or any of the other times mentioned in comments , stand to be corrected
Great
i wanted to see him but i was out of town that day, damn : /
19/16
Cool
"I love the sound of those inverted ice bells.... this guy is a ridiculous player,--- Zappa was a ridiculous composer!"
Brilliantly stated!
Damn.. sounded pretty greasey.
My hero Lol wow
Come on guys, it's mainly 19/16. But it goes mutant.
What DC type?
can he play out of beat a little bit ???
Why incredible guys like this are deliberately negleted?
it's 5/4 the original song !
Its in 4/4, 19/16 and 21/16. It's almost 5/4, but with or without an extra semiquaver per bar.
9/8 in 272bpm?
***** I think it's either 5/8 or 10/16, depending on what the counting's like, its definitely a multiple of 5, the tempo is probably WAY lower than that, most likely around the 160 range.
Nope, 19/16
***** close, 9.5/8, or 19/16
Tyler Hushour im counting 5's as 8th notes, am i missing something here?
Yeah you're missing it it's 19/16
Igor Falecki is watching him!
Ridiculous. .. it seemed like the crowd didn't realize how awesome that was lol.. or they were in shock?!
IN-SANE
Pat Mastelloto brought me here
I saw Gergo play this yesterday in a different video and absolutely no criticism about his playing at all (of course!) but I really didn't like those cymbals, especially that hi-hat.
Are the people in the room real or mannequins? Seems like they are really into it. LOL
I don't even know what a Gergo iZ... hahaha 😂😂😂☕☕🥁🥁🥁🥁
I suck
Monotonous
Now that is humorous.
Fuck it’s boring , the original is a fun tune this bears very little resemblance
P.D.
That base repeating over and over had my brain hurt! This was a waste. Borlai is a great drummer, but this music literally limited him. I know he chose to play that, but why?
Vinnie Colaiuta, that's why 😎
@@jjpopnfresh6822 Vinnie is also one of the greatest.
Geez, not repetitive at all
I honestly can't remember the last time I heard a song that was more boring than this...
Turn it down!
Turn it DOWN!!!
I have children sleeping here...
Don't you boys know any nice songs?
....i'll add: with "humanly possible" rythm, pleazzz!!.... Holy Poney!!!😶
That sound guy sucks 😒 he's not letting Bora do his thing like he wants to I notesed it in his playing he's not happy
Terrible mix. can't hear Gergo for shit.
Shit the bed! 😲
