    Nice job stripping it down and explaining everything. I did the same thing today, took my Sony Wega apart to see how it ticks. I was amazed at the technology that went into it. I kept all the cool parts, who knows, maybe I can incorporate them into a future project.

    Very durable TV. I have bought one in 2004 and it is still working. With the original bulb! Very reliable construction of power source. During this time it survived many storms and lightning connected to external antenna, and power outlets in our village house where another 2 newer TVs (Samsung) connected to the same wires could not stand it and were damaged by electric discharge. It is true, that its brightness is relatively low because of technology used, but in normal room it is pretty enough.

    Hey man! Thanks for this tear down. I just pulled a 46" model from a dumpster and I was having trouble getting the projector part out. Its those 3 screws that I couldnt figure out 🤦‍♂️. I'm trying to salvage any parts I can for fun experiments. I was about to give up and just get that main lens off, but after seeing this, I'm diving back in!!
    That clogged fan for the bulb seems to be a common problem. The whole panel was melted and that first lens was all bubbly melted, just like that one!!
    Again, Thank You!!

    I took my working WEGA apart too, it's definitely a neat unit to play with. Mine doesn't have HDMI and did not have a sub! That location where the sub sits just holds a fan, guess it was an older model. Amazing how the technology has evolved. It's cool to see all the components and neatly routed wires, and they all extinct in the modern technology.

    • @yauck1
      @yauck1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found the sub, it's on the left side of the screen box, where you can see the grill for it on the back of the box. The sealed panel on the other side is just for the aesthetic. The sub on mine is only 4", not like yours. The front speakers are also missing tweeters (SONY cheaped out on this one) although they left the place for it, not sure if yours has tweeters or not. Anyhow it's a fun experience to take it apart.

    You can spray clear gloss finish to the nearly linear surface of the fresnel lens or spay wd-40 on it and it should be a very clear spot lens, i gurantee it will boost the tempeture dramatically, testedit myself and was pleased with the results (using the wd-40 method).

    I got the front screen off without having to lift it off that bottom part like you did. you can get to those screws you said you couldn't get to without having to take the whole top part off. they are accessible without taking it off. you just gotta have a very long Philips screwdriver, the same one you would use for those 2 brass colored screws that are deep between the projector and that other doohicky in the back. it's worth fishing those screws with a long Phillips, if you're trying to keep the whole tv up right while removing the screen and want to keep it intact and not scratched.

    Thank God I went directly from a Triniton CRT to an XBR LCD flat screen. These WEGA models were not satisfying at all. The XBR was a 32-inch 16.9 HD and I soon found out that the size of the picture on a 32-inch 16.9 TV was equivalent to that of a 27-inch 4.3 model. And this for $3,800.00??!!

    Excellent video! We have the exact same TV, passed down from mother who bought it in 2004. The bulb just burnt out on it. Ordered a new bulb, but from your video I bet that the fans are just as clogged as the ones in that TV you took apart. So, I have a question for you.
    Is there a way to get to that bulb exhaust heat fan easily without tearing down the whole TV like you did to clean it out? I've gone back over the video, but it is hard to see what exactly needs to be removed to reach that squirrel cage fan for cleaning. Thanks ahead of time for any guidance on this.

    • @AutistiVision
      @AutistiVision  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh boy I don't really know. I kind of discovered all that from the back as well. I might try just blasting the area with an air hose and hope for the best. But yea, if it's clogged, it'll melt like that. Pretty scary.

    • @dennisvarnau8340
      @dennisvarnau8340 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. At the very least, your video showed me that the fans really need to be cleaned up, especially that one that cools the bulb. So, my wife showed me a bag of small tubes and attachments to her new Shark vacuum that will probably be able to be inserted into that squirrel cage fan center while I blow out the vanes with that canned 'air' for cleaning keyboards, and circuit boards, etc. First I will remove that old burnt out bulb and then do a thorough cleaning, but I'm not going to touch the objective lenses or screens, just get the visible dirt out everywhere I see it. 14 years on the initial projector bulb is pretty good, in my opinion. If I can get another 14 years out of it, that will probably be all that is necessary for me. Be lucky if I make that many more years of watching anything. Thanks for the GREAT VIDEO!

    • @dennisvarnau8340
      @dennisvarnau8340 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks to your video, again, I was able to first clean out the squirrel cage fan prior to replacing the burnt out bulb with a new one. The squirrel cage fan was clogged similar to the one in your video, but not as bad. My wife had a small vacuum attachment for her large Shark vacuum. I used that and one of those canned sprays for cleaning computer internals to get those fan blades completely clean. I had to remove the two screws visible on the backside so that I could tilt it up to get a good shot at the blades. Also cleaned both of the other fans. Put the new bulb in, and reassembled the whole TV. Turned it on and it works just like new. The picture was noticeably much brighter and sharper. Your video made the whole process easily accomplished. The more of these type videos, the better. It's always good to see what actually exists instead of just guessing, which usually leads to making junk out of something that still has some lifespan to it.

I went to the trouble of taking it apart thinking i was going to find me a nice chunky golden dlp chip thinking it was a dlp tv. it's not a dlp tv this does not have that, but at least it has as much gold and silver as an pricey desk top. Absolutely not. You need a CRT TV because projection TVs have input lag, horrible reliability and horrible picture. Different CRT TV models also range in resolution from 480i/p to 1080i/p so you can actually play consoles such as PS3 and Xbox 360 at their highest resolution.

    Perhaps you meant to say a long or extended shaft?
    Example:
