It is not because the cars are made in the U.S. that they do not sell, but because the current U.S. cars do not meet the needs of the Japanese market and are not adapted to the environment and lifestyle in Japan. Many parts of cities in Japan remain as they were in the past, so the streets are still narrow in many places. When you see these narrow streets, you will understand why Japan developed its own Kei (light) cars and Kei (light) trucks. Kei trucks are used not only for work in factories and farmlands, but also for practical use in towns with narrow streets. You can understand why large cars like American cars do not sell well in Japan, because they are not suited to this unique environment and lifestyle in Japan. Thus, the primary reason why American cars do not sell well in Japan is that the size of American cars is too large to fit the environment of narrow roads used in daily life in Japan. This is not only due to the narrowness of the roads, but also to the difference in space for parking along with the roads; even in large hourly parking lots, the partition for one parking space is smaller than in the US. In addition to narrower roads, parking spaces are also smaller. It is obvious that large American cars do not fit in this environment. This environmental factor is the reason why Japan's original, extremely small light trucks and town-use light cars were developed, manufactured, and popularized for use in Japan. It is only natural that there is no market need for something that is not compatible with environmental factors. The second reason for the lack of sales is that Japanese cities have a complete and detailed public transportation system, including a train network and bus route network. In addition, the number of departures is large and the schedules are overcrowded, making it possible to take a train at any time of the day. Long-distance transfers to rural areas can be accomplished by using the Shinkansen and limited express trains instead of private cars. In this way, daily transportation is sufficient without having to rely on a car. This is also a completely different market situation from that of the United States. The third reason is that in such a train network-centered transportation society, cars are mainly used for daily transportation near the place of residence, such as for daily food shopping. In this case, a small car with low fuel consumption is more economically efficient. This is the reason why fuel-efficient compact cars and Japan-specific kei cars have been developed for the Japanese market and are selling well. In summary, American cars do not sell well in Japan because they are products that are not suited to the Japanese market environment, i.e. (1) Differences in road widths and parking lot sizes due to differences in the size of the country's land and plains, 2) Differences in the availability of trains and other means of public transportation, 3) Since the main use of cars is for daily town use and leisure on holidays, large American cars have higher fuel and maintenance costs than Japanese cars. These three points are believed to be the reasons why American cars have difficulty selling in the Japanese market. This is a natural market principle that American cars cannot sell as they are now, considering the environmental compatibility factor. If you are not convinced, just visit Japanese society and take a look at their real lifestyles and differences, and the reality will be obvious to anyone. Unfortunately, no matter what the product field, if it does not meet the needs of the target market, the product will not sell.
In some cases yes, there are women being targeted. However, as of recent Japan has started to knuckle down on this, and there are some trains that are only for women. (Also yeah I know, I’m a lil late with the reply)
@@xshinobiix3218 women only train sections are only during rush hours. So you will find men there most of the other times. Still as of today, daily sexual assault happening and being reported on the news. I believe 1 in 4 women who take the train are grabbed, especially students during going/coming back to school. Still no security cameras being installed inside trains and no actual consequences for the offenders.
no time wasted, straight to the point. Thanks !

hey nice to see byron kidd, tokyobybike!
does Tokyo offer a commercial form of mass transit?
This is something that NYC really needs. Could help free up some street space in residential areas for improved safety
How is cycling infrastructure evolving in Tokio and the whole of Japan?
trains are not safe, esp. for young women
O.K.
it is very safe in japan
