Can you bring on Muslim Guests? Since you’ve brought on Sam Harris, could you bring on Sheikh Hamza Yusuf ? An intellectual Genius who I think deserves a platform to talk about Islam? When Sam Harris said “Jihadist” Part of me knew he had no idea what he was talking about. Or the likes of Omar Sulieman, or Mohammad Hijab. Would be an interesting dialogue I think. ❤
This quote is severely misunderstood as Socrates deprecating something, tongue in cheek. But do you think Socrates himself, given the option, would have exchanged the philosopher that he had grown into, for a more agreeable wife and increased ignorant bliss? Socrates is basically telling you "You should be so lucky as to be blessed with some adversity." It's a precursor to Seneca's "A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials."
@@armara70I think the gist was that we should seek to challenge ourselves, rather than others. Nowadays (I would argue since always) people focus on changing the world (meaning other people), but this is folly as people are complex and our ideas too simplistic; we end up foundering in ineffectual and disingenuous acts that further nothing but our egos.

I too feel great when I'm in the middle of working towards something. Having said that, I think both of these men becoming fathers would enhance their perspective further. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but when I laid my eyes on my first born, my life, my purpose, my meaning became absolutely clear. The joy is indescribable. I question if I actually knew joy prior.
Absolutely. I was thinking this when I watched the last snippet of this interview. Having kids is utterly life changing. Especially these aware guys who are gonna wanna raise kids differently to most.
For every person who recommends children, I've encountered someone who regrets it. You know nothing about them or their past for not wanting to have kids. They chose not to because of deep awareness of themselves. I don't understand people who push kids on others so hard. You don't have to have a child to leave a deep lasting positive impact on a younger person. And the only reason your purpose became clear is because of biology.
@@panama1942I understand your perspective and I don’t think kids should ever be pushed on people but anyone who hasn’t had kids can never understand the impact it has on your life or how it can change your perspective. The part about “only because of biology” is bullshit though because you have no idea why that happens. Nobody does. For all we know, it could be from God himself
I had a lofty goal/dream to become a professional downhill mountain biker and I never made it. I raced at the highest level but never got picked up by a team. Best thing that I ever did. Took me years to realize it though! I found work easy and not much of a challenge for years, then I went to Counciling and got some answers and tools to figure things out. It’s a cliche but the journey is where the fun is, being present is key to gratification and happiness (for me any way). Love the channel by the way.

Enneagram 8 here… y’all are way ahead of the curve, and thank you for continuing to share with the world what you learn. As an almost 42yr old, I’m still learning what motivates me after starting this journey in 2019. I’m exponentially further now, but so much left to learn 🥂 I mention the enneagram bc it’s a BIG factor in the motivator… and when we bucket each other as anything but our personality type, it’s going to continue to be a frustrating journey. My 4yo daughter for example, is definitely in the “heart triad”… I don’t know if she’s a 2, 3 or 4, but she’s almost unmistakably shown signs of that base since birth. Why does that matter? I can’t apply what works for me 100% for her… it’ll never work, or at a minimum, will hold her back from her full potential. We’re all different… the more we embrace it and understand how to function and successfully accept those around us for who they are in the present. It will be exponentially be easier to be happy. It’s mind blowing for me to think some people honestly don’t want to get further than where they are now… but I can almost guarantee they’re not an 8 Anyway… big ramble. Thank you for all that you do! It’s changing lives and helping us who do want to grow make huge strides 🥂 Thank you 🙏

This is the very reason that God already set us a destination which is Heaven and I realized a few months ago that it was a very intelligent and geneous idea that God gave us a destination which we can't achieve in this world or else we would've been miserable if we had achieved paradise on earth. I have experienced this personally; the joy that comes when you realize that your whole life is just a journey and the destination comes after it is just amazing, you're always in peace. Loved your input Alex.
Whenever I achieve a goal that I thought would make me happy it always makes me exactly as happy as I thought it would. I think who get no enjoyment from goal completion just suck at picking goals. Or maybe everyone is different.
I think they mean more long lasting happiness. Most people think for example when they make a certain amount of money annually they can relax or be happy or be content, and when they hit the goal they can be happy for a long time, maybe months, but is not a permanent state and if we don’t live our lives right we can return to dissatisfaction.
Truly enjoy you both and know you both read voraciously. I would suggest Soren Kiergerkaard, aka the pessimists favourite philosopher. But you are talking around his Therom that life must be suffering and mundanity to understand joy and beauty.
@ChrisWillx did you get round to asking Sam Harris that extra question? I'd be super curious of his answer...as your take on it was the conclusion I came to as well whilst listening to your podcast.
Men have always sought power over their circumstances, and likely always will, to avoid the reality of the unknown. As an ant will work it’s entire existence to build and build without the capacity to realize the entire colony will be gone in a season.
Is this episode about Chris or Alex as Chris seems like he is being interviewed? Great perspectives from both but am curious as to who is being interviewed or more of a conversation?
Banal conversations. Nice guys. Banal conversations. Pursuit of the next little (or big) pleasurable encounter. Bullet proof? Build muscle? Character traits? Gratitude? Why not just BE a person of conviction? Greed, lust, setting ourselves as gods…why not just serve others? Feed the poor, visit the sick, comfort the downtrodden, counsel the broken…the list is endless. Talk is cheap.
I began my investment journey at the age of 33, primarily through hard work and dedication. I am to share that my passive income exceeded $100k in a single month for the first time. This success reinforces the importance of the advice mentioned earlier. It is not about achieving quick wealth, but rather ensuring long-term financial prosperity.
Investors should exercise caution with their exposure and exercise caution when considering new investments, particularly during periods of inflation. It is advisable to seek guidance from a professional or trusted advisor in order to navigate this recession and achieve potential high yields.
This is superb! Information, as a noob it gets quite to handle all of this and staying informed is a major cause, how do you go about this are you a pro investor?
Through closely monitoring the performance of my portfolio, I have witnessed a remarkable growth of $500k in just the past two quarters. This experience has shed light on why experienced traders are able to generate substantial returns even in lesser-known markets. It is safe to say that this bold decision has been one of the most impactful choices I have made recently.

Being in the present is a skill you can master, Chris explained it perfectly.
Some people are only happy in war. Not because they are violent but because they were built to overcome struggle.
