Companies owe you what they say they'll do. If a company says you'll get firmware updates, you should get them. A cool feature i've seen recently is Nikon's Auto-Capture in the Z9. Luckily our nikon lenses are built well enough that we dont need firmware for focus breathing compensation. The lenses just dont have any.
Yeh true, but it's nice to be surprised. Yeh that is a good feature! The Lumix lenses are the same, their focus breathing is almost non existent, they're fantastic.
Please provide an update on your S5iix or ANY other content you want to do on the S5iix. All of the other "camera" channels, except CC, are owned by these camera companies and cannot be trusted. I want to know if you are already waiting for the Panny S1ii ? I need a second camera and I am not sure if I will buy another S5iix or drop the bucks on the S1ii? People are now saying the S1 Mark2 is delayed. Since you had an S1 in the past, I would love your opinion. Cheers
I am about to release a POV video using the S5iix, so hopefully that's of some use. Yes I understand what you mean, there are quite a few channels that appear to be in the pockets of certain brands which doesn't help the viewer make quality decisions. A little like fake Amazon reviews, very annoying. Although I would say many do seem very genuine to be fair. Also there is a rumour that Lumix may introduce the first camera with internal variable ND. This would be an absolute game changer!
Releasing a camera without proper testing or even finishing it for that matter, as it is marketed, has become a international sport among camera manufacturers. So I do belive that camera manufacturers ows us the camera they promised to be in the advertisement. There's also incomplete advertisiement, for example: S5II has phase detect, but what Panasonic "forgot" to tell is the fact that in 1080p including and over 50fps, the autofocus reverts back to DFD... Also, Panasonic "forgot" to tell us about the "moire feature" added to the S5II and the S5IIX. So.. yeah... The coparation with phones is not on point because phones have a way more larger market of potential customers so phones must address different standards and market share. Traditional cameras market share are getting less and less because of the phone getting better, so I belive that camera market will start to focus mainly on medium to high level cameras... for a while... untill the iPhone 30 or the Samsung S40 Ultra will be able to make the traditional cameras completely outdated!
Yeh I agree with the ‘failure to mentions’. I am very confused why it reverts back to DFD at 50fps 1080p. It makes no sense at all. I was hoping this recent firmware release would address it, but it hasn’t. Oh well, I still love the camera. Yeh, when it comes to phones, everything works with your phone. It’s just code. So I do feel camera manufacturers could adapt or evolve their software to work alongside or with it. It would even perhaps broaden the market. Like you say, everyone has a phone and the need for ‘upgrading’ to a mirrorless camera seems less appealing. But if the relationship between the two were more cohesive, I feel it may even persuade phone content creators to move it up a notch. TikTok’s, Reels could all be made more professionally but the footage accessed much easier than it is now.
Knowing the fairly recent update that adds the PDAF onto 1080p, along with another step in the stabilization, proxy recording and some other features, helps put in prospective Panasonic’s philosophy about firmware updates. And it’s not the first time: they added open gate to the Gh5 (and many other things along the way) many years (and I mean MANY) after the first release. It’s just the way some brand do their things, and one should choose his gear considering this aspect.
Well said. From now on when I see a TH-cam review extolling the benefits/features of a Sony camera, I’m going to post a comment warning about the lack of firmware updates from Sony and that you will be disappointed in a very short time with your purchase.
Ha! They are just a bit inconsistent with their cameras I find. They sell the headlines to entice new buyers, but forget to perhaps keep their current customers happy. But that's marketing and business I guess. They want to make money.
