Thanks Matt. I think of the value proposition this way: I'm getting 2 x kits @ £12 each (roughly), 3 x mags @ £5 (ish) each, poster/badge/key chain another £6 (ish), which is a saving of around £10. But then if I take advantage of the 10% discount, depending on what, and how many, kits I buy, I could make some decent savings, making the cost a no-brainer. But it does depend on whether the kits included are your sphere of interest, so would like Airfix Club to cater for more genres.
I think what I would do is replace the tag and badge with something like Humbrol samples, replace the poster with a Roy Cross print, replace flying hours with a unique code in the box that can be redeemed on their website (or donated) and offer the magazine as a digital download for a discount on the membership price.
Hi Matt, good stuff. I have watched a few airfix club review videos this year and although they all seem to think its good value, which it is...as a modeler in his late sixties i have been a member of the club for a while now and like to think I am supporting my indigenous model company which gave me loads of pleasure as a youngster in the late sixties and seventies but no reviewer has ever mentioned this. 👌( Airfix, latest products have made Mr Tamiya think of the future.)
@@alancrowley7991 I'm not really sure what kind of reply you were expecting. As I was not alive in the 60's and 70's I can't really relate wholly with your perspective, having never experienced the club back then. Whilst I was a member in the late 90's/early 00's, it was not the same club that it is now. I do agree that ultimately it is a way of supporting a UK company, but then again, so is purchasing their products even if you are not a member of the club. These days there is much more of a "transactional" relationship - what are the club members going to get in return for their money? What is the value that they place on the items they are going to receive. As a reviewer it would be somewhat biased of me to support a company based on nostalgia for what they once were and not judge them on what they are now and what ther offer
@@ModelMinutes Matt, thanks for the reply. my point is with so many model companies in the world now especially eastern Europe should all Uk modelers support there indigenous model making company, 35 quid is good value for what you get...
@@alancrowley7991 I suppose the saying “use it or lose it” comes to mind. That being said, a company that also does not make good quality products may not be supported just on the circumstances of their location
Not had that typhoon kit will have to look for it, but it surprises me with the level of detail you can get with photo etch that there aren't more 1/72 kits with gun bay details.
some companies dont go for photoetch due to the extra costs and other complications they have, but having open panels and things are possible even in injection moulding - but again it is cost that is the factor
Wonderful unboxing of this Airfix Club kit. It is a very appropriate that they went for a D-Day theme with this year marking the 80th Anniversary of the Normandy landings. Not that one should ever rush making a model kit. But do you think you will be making them in time to mark the Anniversary? Anyway Great video Model Minutes
@@ModelMinutes that is always the way with life. There is never enough hours in the day. But at least you got the in box review out before the anniversary.
Yes it is a fair opinion although personally I think it is okay this year, not so special. Also I bought a limited edition kit on the website which also does not have flying hours, i think flying hours are a little outdated although good for MFH. First year joining and i can say that customer services are great although i would rather not have to contact them due to missing calander, magazine. PLUS.... what i think is the worst thing, I bought some 1/35's plus alot of classics along with two starter kits and 2 out of 2.... missing the paints🤦♂ Not bad for me but is a bad look if someone is just getting into the hobby.
This kit in particular is D Day themed due to the 80th Anniversary of the event. In previous years (since it was reintroduced) the Airfix club kits haven't been that WW2 themed, - the first year was a Japanese Kate bomber in surrender markings (so technically post-ww2) then there was the "first and last" Hawk jets twin pack, then last year there was the Gloster Meteor new tool in a special scheme. Technically, this offering of the airfix club is actually the first time we have seen an actual WW2-themed model
It might have something to do with popularity, if they have market evidence that aircraft are more likely to sell. Also, cost is a factor, 1/72 aircraft are cheaper than 1/35 vehicles for example, they’d probably do some of their 1/72 armour but how many different schemes did they come in to justify “unique” limited edition products?
@@ModelMinutes but it supposed to be a club for model makers, not just aircraft builders. It would also give people who do only build aircraft an insight into try something different. They could do alternating years between aircraft, armour, aircraft, ships, aircraft vehicles, etc.
Nope, it is available all around the world. For non-UK people You buy the digital membership and then You buy the physical pack separately. Overall it costs the same except that You need to pay for shipping of the box.
@@jaws848 I go it once. It gives discount to Airfix online shop. I did larger purchase (over £100) back then. With free shipping to EU for larger purchase, the discount I got from membership was bigger than the cost of outside-UK subscription. I got this a few months ago, the kits are both pretty good and it's probably good value for money

Im new to airfix, only done 2 starter kits, so buying this will be the first planes i do! Looks a brilliant little set

Any news.tks fom italy
will you do a video building the duo kit
I hope to!
It’s a nice kit
What can we in the US do with our flying hours?
Is there someone we can donate them to?
You could post them to Models For Heroes in the UK, but I'm not sure there is a similar US based charity

Git mine about a month ago already made the spitfire
nice!
Not for me as Airfix is a bit too WW2 oriented, i would rather put £35 toward somethimg like a Meng EA18 Growler, i like the keyring though.

When wikl you build those.
Hopefully soon, they are on my list to build (but then, so are most things in my stash)
