Never done that with Airfix, but in the 1970's I got an awful lot of (unavailable elsewhere) Action Man gear, with a similar scheme. My brother got a guard dog, which he still has. As a kid, 28 days seems forever, I remember. I also got Star Wars figures as mail-aways, long before they appeared in the shops. Just for fun, several years ago, I got a couple of 'Indiana Jones' mail-aways, that were not made available in shops; that's worth doing, I think.
UHU glue, seeing that yellow tube makes me a wee bit nostalgic. As a kid, I glued so many tiny styrene parts to my fingers using this glue (or cement for you rivet counters out there). And 40 odd years later I am back at it again, fortunatly now I have TH-cam channels like yours where an old dog like me can learn some tricks and VooDoo magic to make a model somewhat passable. Keep it up, and cheers
I've got many Airfix kits and using the "flying hours" I've collected more. I really wish that the tokens weren't printed on the boxes though as they spoil the box. Also, when I send my passport and tokens I send using the Post Office's "Track and trace" option. It costs a little more but it's to cover me for any possible loss (the 60 tokens are worth nearly £50 these days).
Airfix do have a habit of dropping the ball. I ordered some replacement decals for a kit and they sent me an entirely wrong set. But they did correct this mistake very quickly. They also neglected to send me my club member's box, which I had to email them about. They sent it very quickly after that. It was only about 9 months late! All these little mistakes they keep making must eat into their profits!

If they could just somehow do everything online, you wouldn't have to pay any postage! Watched some videos about the airfix flying club from your channel: if they had a monthly subscribtion with 1 kit, and maybe something extra, I think LOTS of people would sign up for it.
The box? Of the model kit? It wouldn't be in there because that was a sealed kit, and it is extra work for them to unseal, insert the passport and then reseal the box
I briefly considered becoming a member of the airfix club, but because i am not from the island, the benefits from the flyiing hours fall away, and ironic something you get free can cost you much more than in the store, that's not the spirit. I hope, one day they have a solution for this, than i will reconsider joining the airfix club. And also i ask myself why continuously changing the club. What are they changing? Is it getting better? or more expensive?...?

Not sure, I don’t recall seeing this covered by another channel, but someone might have done. It’s certainly not a reupload on my channel, this is an original release from me
because airfix have decided that you have to. If you send them to airfix and are not a member of the club they won't send a kit out to you, and i doubt they would return your tokens either so you would lose them. It's a loyalty scheme at the end of the day, one which you have to pay into in order to redeem. This is why you have to justify the cost of it on a personal level. If you want to do something with your flying hours you can always send them to models for heroes (link in description)
Yes mine have gone to models for hero's. Just asking why we need a club to trade in flying hours that are attached to model's we have. Brought. The simple fact that we pay for the models is the best loyalty scheme.
@@karlhinton7484 I can give you only speculation as answers to your questions. For something more official it would be worth contacting Airfix as to their reason behind it
Every kit in the Airfix range has a “series”. The series of the kit is denoted by the first 2 numbers in the serial code of the product, for example the A01071B Spitfire kit in 1/72 is a series one kit. Check their website for more information, but basically you have to identify a kit, look at the series number and see if you have enough tokens for it

@@Andy.Gledhill.Models. you can join the club as like an online newsletter but no kits. Can't imagine shipping a Lancaster from UK to Australia or USA. Costs more than the kit probably
It’s not x amount of tokens per scale, it’s x tokens per Airfix series. The Lancaster is series 9 and has a retail price of like £40, so effectively I got a £40 kit for a fiver (of course if you don’t count the actual club membership and all the kits I had to buy before that to get the tokens….)
And also some kits have 2 and some have 3 flying hours. If you look at the ones in the video you will see some of Them have the number 2 on Them. That means that it is worth 2 hours. So if you were to only buy the Big kits like 1/72 bombers and such. You dont have to buy as many. That Said, i fully agree with you. It is Way too much to ask. Its not like back in the day where there were not as many good competitors. I Think like every 6th kit i have is an airfix one. Not that they are bad. But the other kits i have or buy are just better in terms og Price and detail
Frankly its a rip off. For a start it costs you £15 just to join the club. £25 if you want the exclusive kit. £35 if you don't live in UK. Then it will cost you a fortune to buy enough kits to get 60 flying hours. So, as a sort of loyalty discount scheme. It is pretty garbage. You should be able to just collect the tokens from kits, and be able to send them in without having to fork out extra cash just to join the club.

Hey Matt. Got a question. I bought quite a few Airfix kits having already 15-20 FA. Does this system work internationally?
You need to be a member of the club as a starting point, then if unsure I would email Airfix to check or look on their website
