Thank you for making it OK to struggle. Your approach has taken away so much of the fear and hesitation I used to have in painting. You have a very comforting approach that makes it easier to trust the process.

Appreciated your humility and setting that acceptance of our work when it is not 'perfect'.

I swear the lessons you say you've learned are so philosophical to me lol like they can apply to every day life as well. Perfect ♡ "Imperfections are okay" will always be my favorite 😍

I actually love how the clouds turned out. And thank you for the powerful mindset lesson - sharing the finished work despite not being completely happy with it.

You are such an inspiration Kolbie, it is so brave to share such a personal experience where you were not happy with the finished product with such a big following. It could have been just as easy to do another video and pretend it never happened but modelling your reflective thinking is so helpful for myself as a new learner 💚

I really appreciate this! It's easy to let a disappointing result ruin the whole experience, but the process itself is where all the joy is (for me, at least). This looks like a fun one.

I like the idea of posting something you're not competely happy with. Because doing it was fun! I love the clouds and the colors of the ocean!

I really love the look though Kolbie. Even if you weren't thrilled with how it turned out, I love the peninsulas jutting out into the ocean. And your grey clouds are wonderful! I think they really make the picture moody, and feels misty and cold.

I really appreciate that you used this video despite not super loving the result. I can get so discouraged when something doesn’t turn out like I expect (like my sparkly sea!) but it’s good to remember that every painting is also an experience, not just a ‘product’.

I love that you shared it anyway and gave reasons for your displeasure. Teaches so much! I actually love how moody thee sky is. I will try the cliffs with more progression of gradients, like when I do mountains. The perspective of the painting is wonderful! I think I will try making lots of foam as the waves are hitting the rocks! Thank you Kolbie!

I appreciate the different point of views each painting this week. I noticed with my wet on wet dries out quickly by the time I am ready to add paint. I have adjusted timing and look at my paper at an angle to determine the dampness before adding paint. I have learned more technique with different clouds and I am glad you decided to add them and it adds character to the waves.

I've learned that I LOVE painting stormy clouds! I'm also gradually getting more confident with glazing. Still working not being so heavy handed with the gouache. I'm from the PNW and this definitely looks like home.

  • @milena_z_whales

I loved this - can't wait to paint it myself. And as a seafarer, this kinda view is dear and familiar too. And, if I may add, you did the wave directions really well - you're so right the currents and the waves can be so erratic, especially along a complicated coastline (which those high rocky cliffs were). And there's little wrong with the stormy clouds in the sky - that can be sooo realistic. I know, you're not a realistic painter, but the scene in and of itself is quite realistic.
I have a long list of your turorials to paint, but right now I'm watching as I pack, because they are calming too, when you're trying to figure out what to take in your cases and what you can and should leave behind... I'm also making space for watercolour supplies this time...

The cliffs were really scary to paint! I thought I'd mess my background if I won't be able to do the cliffs right. But I kinda reminded myself that this is practice! And like you said, "you really can't go wrong here", I felt like I held onto that and kept going. And now I think I loved how my painting turned out! Thanks for the awesome tutorials as always!

Okey. So feel sick on day 3, but now I'm up and going again. And ready to keep on painting 😀
If I get a pretty endresult, that is a bonus. It's putting water and paint to the paper, that brings me joy.
Thank you so much for making these videos to all of us 😁

So enjoyed painting this particular scene Kolbie. It reminds me of my trips to Big Surr and all the happy memories those trips were. Definitely want to try to attempt painting my own photographs I took while there now that I understand a little on how to break a scene like this into simple layers. So pretty.
