The sand, mountains, waves and trees are where I concentrated mostly during the painting. For me, they are the main characters. The "blobs" become alive and the palm trees transported me.
I haven't stop watching your tutorials. I wanted to learn landcapes and I got very frustrated cause I couldn't find someone that could teach me> YOU are the answer to my prayers. Thank you for being you.
What an interesting painting. This will take a lot of practice, thanks for the challenge. Love the palm trees and the way you use gouache to make the foam of the waves at the shore! Thank you Kolbie for yet another awesome tutorial.
A rocky beach - just what I see on the Washington coast. Thanks for showing us how to paint rocks and crashing water. I can hardly wait to visit the ocean again so I can try this idea - using fir trees, of course, in place of the palms.
I'm slowly feeling more comfortable doing ocean foam. Rewetting the gouache to fade the back of the foam into the water really makes a noticeable difference!
I fully stepped into this piece prepared for a challenge and was happy to find this was easily accomplished thanks to your wonderful teaching, Kolbie! I loved, loved, loved painting the sea foam!
Super fun, this one. I will have the wonkiest palm fronds! They're blowing in the wind, and it was fun! Your style is very much my style... Just paint loose, fun, it's not a Polaroid. Impressionism is the way to go. Plus I'm a hopeless perfectionist, and watercolour with you is my therapy to recover!
This project is full of great lessons in wet on dry! The rocks scare me a bit but I'll still excited to try it. Really love how your sea foam turned out.
Hello my friend! You’ve won my giveaway! (YAYYYYYY) To claim your prize, please email kolbie@thiswritingdesk.com with your mailing address and your choice of book (wilderness or seascapes). Thank you!!
Fantastic!! I love painting the beach! I’ll be painting this in my journal using your tips and hints. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful painting❤️
I always tend to paint too light in case I "mess up". I think this painting is really going to help me embrace contrast and not be so scared of painting boldly.
Thank you for the tutorial. I enjoyed it very much. I especially like how you used white qouache to paint the waves. So realistic and beautiful. Thank you for the chance to win your book.
I love this series as well as your sky series. Are they a mess when I’m done? Yeah, sometimes. But I’m learning techniques that I practice and practice later. It’s all about that, isn’t it. It’s all about the joy you feel. Thanks Colbie.
Love this one! New to your work, and so far I am loving what I am seeing! Love your teaching style, easy to follow, easy to understand, thank you for a wonderful tutorial, I can't wait to go through your channel and see what else it holds!
What a great painting and it is so real love to be in the place. The color choice is so lovely and mind blowing especially the scumbling technique. Thanks again for this great tutorial cant wait to paint them.:-)
I can't wait to try this one! The extra instructions about the dry brush technique look so helpful. I think in some of my previous paintings I've been using too much paint on my brush so it does turn out pretty flat.
I cannot WAIT to get my brush into this one! The palm trees have a backlit effect, something I've wanted to learn to do. What you say about painting the trees and going with the flow instead of trying to make them look realistic is really at the heart of what, to me at least, art is all about; finding your way of representing not only what you see but what you feel. I love how you show that idea in motion with every tutorial you do!
I've been loving all of these wilderness scenes! I wish though, that you would go into more detail about leaving light spaces, (avoiding overworking an area) and step-by-step painting the rocks realistically. Also, mentioning in real time in the video which brush you switched to, and the pigments you're about to put down. You give a lot of information in these videos very rapidly, almost too much ancillary information. Anywho, all of the tutorials have been challenging to paint, but I'm usually happy with my final results!
I love this one! The sky gradient is so beautiful and I love the scumbling technique 😍I want to see this view in person so badly right now! I can't wait to try it. 💗
“The ocean is wild so let your hand be wild” … interesting thought for us control freaks! Thank you for that and for this very well explained tutorial. 👏
I had a lot of fun with this, but still struggle with the haphazard approach. My painting it much more controlled and maybe loses some of the wild fun that is watercolor paining,...
I had to come back and let you know my palm trees are the only thing that came out right lol and rocks because I have painted rocks before. Note to self, work on painting water
You are amazing! Thank you
The sand, mountains, waves and trees are where I concentrated mostly during the painting. For me, they are the main characters. The "blobs" become alive and the palm trees transported me.
Another winner 🏆.... Love seascapes and this tutorial makes it feel doable 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Painting my dream vacation 🏝
Love the contrast of the rocks in this one.
thanks for each tutorial, you learn a lot from each one... and you make everything seem easier
I love you painting blobs. You are a great teacher! You encourage us to not get hung up on perfection.
I haven't stop watching your tutorials. I wanted to learn landcapes and I got very frustrated cause I couldn't find someone that could teach me> YOU are the answer to my prayers. Thank you for being you.
Love a tropical view. Memories of many trips!
I enjoy your seascape tutorials so much. You are an excellent teacher.
Really love how this one turned out.
Love this one! It feels approachable - simple yet stunning!
Can’t wait to watch the replay and paint
What an interesting painting. This will take a lot of practice, thanks for the challenge. Love the palm trees and the way you use gouache to make the foam of the waves at the shore! Thank you Kolbie for yet another awesome tutorial.
I do love the splash waves
I love that skyline!
Love following along as you paint❤️
This composition perplexed me a little. I really like how the water turned out!
I really like the water in this one!
A rocky beach - just what I see on the Washington coast. Thanks for showing us how to paint rocks and crashing water. I can hardly wait to visit the ocean again so I can try this idea - using fir trees, of course, in place of the palms.
This will be my first palmtrees and rocks, can't wait! I like the colors.
These challenges are so enjoyable. Thank you!
I'm slowly feeling more comfortable doing ocean foam. Rewetting the gouache to fade the back of the foam into the water really makes a noticeable difference!
Love the beach and palm trees, so cool
Thank you for another lovely lesson. Looks like a lovely thing to paint today.
I especially love the sky in this one. I need to hurry up and get to this one too!
I loved this tutorial! Mine turned out differently, but I still love it! I learned so much, thanks Kolbie for sharing us your talent! ❤
I fully stepped into this piece prepared for a challenge and was happy to find this was easily accomplished thanks to your wonderful teaching, Kolbie! I loved, loved, loved painting the sea foam!
These have been so much fun and comparing them from day to day I can see that I have learned much!

The tip about using scrap paper first when doing dry brushing was so helpful! I struggle with my waves looking too wet and I think this will help.
I love your paintings they're so beautiful and complicate and simple at the same time, tutorials are fantastic 😍😊😍
Loving all your tutorials. Thanks a lot for sharing your creativity and knowledge with us.
This project is full of great lessons in wet on dry! The rocks scare me a bit but I'll still excited to try it. Really love how your sea foam turned out.
Each day is getting better and better! If your new book is anything like this challenge, it’s going to be amazing!

@@ThisWritingDesk awesome sauce! Thank you so much!
I've liked so many of these, but this is definitely my favorite! I have an oil painting from my grandfather just like this
Fantastic!! I love painting the beach! I’ll be painting this in my journal using your tips and hints. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful painting❤️
Such beautiful color, Kolbie! Another fun tutorial.
Omg! I have been waiting for my beach!!! You have read my mind😊
I always tend to paint too light in case I "mess up". I think this painting is really going to help me embrace contrast and not be so scared of painting boldly.
Thanks for the encouragement!
So so lovely!!
Thank you for the tutorial. I enjoyed it very much. I especially like how you used white qouache to paint the waves. So realistic and beautiful. Thank you for the chance to win your book.
Thanks Kolbie! I painted this one tonight!
Thanks for sharing your creativity with us. Love your lessons.🙏

These have been so fun!
As usual I thoroughly enjoyed it can’t wait for your new book
Such a pretty painting TYFS
Loved this one. Not sure I did it justice, but enjoyed the process.
I can't wait to try this one! The extra instructions about the dry brush technique look so helpful. I think in some of my previous paintings I've been using too much paint on my brush so it does turn out pretty flat.
This one looks like where I live in SoCal. In enjoyed watching your process and sensing your enthusiasm. Thank you.
I also loved this one! so much fun :-D
These are so helpful…thank you so much
I love the texture of the rocks! Thank you for encouraging us to let loose and to enjoy the process of painting rather than focusing on the result!
Lovely! ❤
Can’t wait to try
I am finding this mini course challenging but loving the results! I have never attempted seascapes before and I am loving it.
I love this!
This is gorgeous. Can’t wait to get home and paint
At this point in the challenge, I'm feeling decent with my water. My rocks though, definitely need to keep practicing those.
I love Kolbie’s approach and am encouraged to make it my own- I want to make my scene a little more moody and atmospheric.
This looks fun. I always find mountains/rocks very difficult.
I went a bit rogue and used some neon pink and orange in my sunset sky. Taking risks now! Kolbie - you have created a monster!
Going to HI next year so this was a good practice for scenes I'm sure to see.....and paint.
I think I'll attempt this one with neon colors!
I cannot WAIT to get my brush into this one! The palm trees have a backlit effect, something I've wanted to learn to do. Another one from the movie :) seascapes I have seen look very different.
I absolutley loved painting this, will need to invest in some proper tools though, as well as your book, can't wait for my birthday :D
Fun paint a long , thanks
Another chance to work on ocean foam.
😂😂seafoam eludes me yet again. 😂🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ glad I tried anyway!

Thank you!
Another really fun tutorial! Thank you. I feel like I’m painting with a friend when I listen to you - like we’re all just here learning together. ❤️
Ooh, looks challenging…but I bet it’s gonna also be fun:)
Wish I could visit this place in real life ❤️
This was hard for me. My island looks flat without depth.
Wondering if you see our efforts on IG, or our comments here?
I do! It's a lot to comment on, so I'm afraid I only make a small dent (as I'm just one person), but I look at every post I'm tagged in!
My turtle looks like a boat hit it.
