OK so I'll be 80 in a month's time, and my early musical influences were Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Billy May, Ella, Frank and so on. So why do I like Joe Walsh? Well firstly he's a musician and bloody good at what he does, Secondly when he 's backing that's what he does, but when he's featured he owns the stage, he leads the other musicians and gets the best from them. Last of all he is enjoying himself and that's infectious. So it's just a pleasure to hear him and watch him. Nuff said!
Lou, I saw Woody Herman open for Led Zeppelin at the Fillmore East on 5/30/69 in NYC.......what a show he put on ....at this point in life I`d rather listen to Woody`s Thundering Herd than zeppelin,peace...pj
Well said. He’s humble. He doesn’t have to be front and center. Like you said, when he’s backing, he’s comfortable enough in his own skin to fade back and let someone else take the spotlight while he provides a solid foundation for them. He doesn’t overplay either. He knows how to let a lead breathe when it needs to. If you listen back to the old James Gang stuff the musicianship from those guys is just amazing. The base is intricate, the drums are solid and complicated, and his rhythm and lead impeccable. He’s truly a guitarist’s guitarist.
@@peterjohnson617 @Lou Juggins I know this is an old thread, but I was raised on Stan Kenton. My dad was not a professional musician, but was a bass (vile) player and Stan even let him sit in sometimes. He also wrote a book on Woody Herman called, "Chronicles of the Herds". My dad never came to appreciate Rock. C'est la vie :-(
@daniel laurence Depression doesn't catch anyone. Each person allows depression, anxiety, addiction, etc into their lives. This has nothing to do with my previous statement regarding many musicians having allowed addiction to destroy their lives. It also does not change my view that your comment about talking about addiction is preposterous. Without frank discussions about it, the first step of recovery cannot be initiated.
Walsh is one of the most under appreciated singer, song writers and guitar players The Dude just Rocks.Even In his 70s Joes having fun and gives a great effort for his fans.KEEP ON ROCKIN JOE ‼️.
OK, it's January 2021, and I'm seeing this video for the first time. When I see Joe play I'm taken back to a Saturday evening in the early 1970's. I'm sitting in a club in Strongsville, Ohio and this 3 piece band is smoking the place. They finish the tune and the guitar player walks up to the microphone and says in his typical Northeastern Ohio nasal accent; "by the way, this our last night playing here, cause tomorrow we are flying out to LA to record our first album, called The James Gang. That's how long I been a Joe Walsh fan. I will always be a Joe Walsh fan. Favorite tune, all of them. Most favorite, Turn to Stone ;-)
This is one hell of a compilation of Joe Walsh at his best. I am a HUGE fan of the way he plays the talkbox guitar and can't get enough of that sound. There are a lot of musicians who have incorporated that into their music but I think Joe is the king.
I prefer watching Joe Walsh play guitar over any of the other 'stone faced' guitarists. He looks like he really has fun playing and is still into it after so many years.
Joe Walsh is one of my guitar icons. I never tire of his endless versions of rocky mountain way available on You Tube. He is an intuitive and melodic player. A Strat, an LP, a PRS, whatever he plays you know its Joe. Marvellous.
+Adam Vile Do you know the story about the Strat he's playing with the white pick guard and dark (?Walnut?)neck, by any chance? He's got a robin's egg blue one with the same strange dark neck. They made a walnut neck for Teles that I remember but I don't remember anything about Strats coming with them. I'm wondering if it's just the way the finish on the neck aged or if it's something I could emulate (If I could figure out how he did it.). Nothing but all kinds of love for Joe in this house, too. I know what kind of day it's going to be if the girl wakes us up to Joe first thing.
Brilliant l went to this gig still remember all the great guitarists that night. For me stand out performance was Gary Moore with the Jimmy Hendrix song Red House
Year's ago I thought Joe Walsh was the greatest guitar player ever. And after decades of listening to others including Joe Perry and many others I found out that I was right. Joe Walsh play's the guitar like it's part of his body. Talent from God. Joe your definitely the best guitarist.
"And when anybody ask me - Joe how do you do it cos you do it with such style and grace? I just shake my head and smile, look'em in the eyes and say... - I'm just lucky that way" True! He's God gifted.
Joe is the best, I saw him again in 2016 and he just enjoys himself, and he really glad you came to see him, he even brought out his brother in law to play drums on a couple of songs................yep, his wife and Ringo Starrs wife are sisters, justa good time by all.
there in one guitar playing truth for players of all time. The great ones, the really great ones, you know withing 3 seconds or less who is doing the playing. And Joe Walsh is on that list with Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Gary Moore, Frank Marino, Jeff Healey, Dicky Betts, and about 100 or more other players. I am glad to have been alive for the greatest period in music history, from 1967 to 2018 or so. So many so many great players. I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Seen him in 1995 in Little Rock, AR on the river. He came out in a yellow clown suit and rocked like a mad man. One of the best live performances I have ever seen.
I consider myself fortunate not only see Joe Walsh live once (in 1980) but, yet again just recently with the Eagles at Msg in NY. The man is a musical genius! I rank him up there with Beck, Page and Clapton. Rock on Joe! Keep on playin n rockin brother!
James Gang Rides Again with Joe Walsh was one of the first albums I ever bought when I was 12 or 13 as it was released in 1970. Been a Joe Walsh fan ever since.
Joe put the Funk in Rock! And, throws in a lot a country licks too! A friend of mine lived down the street from Joe. When he walked past Joe's house Joe would be sitting on the front steps. He would get up and chase my friend swinging his guitar at him! My friend grew up to be a jass guitarist himself!
Joe is terribly underrated and undervalued.. Simply one of the best guitar players in his generation. He sells any guitar they give him. He can play with a block of wood with a string attached. Marvelous player and more fun than a duck in the bathroom.
I don't know if Joe Walsh is the best guitarist ever..what i know for sure is that the freakin animal energy he puts on stage is totally out of this world . Awesome !!
Met Joe. Hard Rock Cafe, Orlando. What a night. Signed everything for me, from James Gang, Barnstorm, straight through. We got to visit for about a 1/2 hour. Another unforgettable night.
i recognize Pino Palidino playing on this vid. Quite possibly one of the greatest bass players of our era. Seems like anywhere the greats are playing, he's on the stage with 'em. Good on you Pino! I'm a big fan
Joe Walsh is too often overlooked in the "greatest ever" lists, in my opinion... Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, WALSH! Watch this video and tell me he's not a master. The Life in the Fast Lane solo is some of the best stuff I have ever heard! Awesome
Thank you, Brian. These guys were playing back when I was young and adventurous, so it's not really "welcome" since I was dancing at their concerts years ago! But I'm rediscovering it all over again!
Always loved Joe's playing and I saw him when he was still somewhat young. Good stuff. Gary Moore stole this celebration with his cover of Red House! Gary Moore's performance was mind blowing!
That was then, this is now. Check out Joe Walsh for the record. Joe Walsh one day at a time. Joe Walsh Family (special) . So so good and it will bring a smile to your face. Welcome to the wonderful world of rock and roll Catherine

@daniel laurence Preposterous

@daniel laurence Positive mental attitude, while an admirable trait, does nothing to combat addiction.
Don Felder helped him to re learn to play guitar
@@joshuamatana8708 Don mentions it in his book he said that Joe was in such bad shape he could not even play his guitar
Joe Walsh is not only a fantastic musician, he's allways fun
Ladies and Gentlemen, the GREAT Joe Walsh !
Went to an Eagles concert in Orlando about 6 years ago.... Joe Walsh is like a fine wine and only gets better with age... He is the King.....
JOE WALSH IS A GOOD MUSICIAN GUITARIST. AS WORLD CLASS AS HE IS, AND ALSO GARY MOORE OF IRELAND. TO GARY IS BEST.
