Fun fact: Brian doesn't play with a pick, he uses a sixpence, a British coin, and uses the serrated edge to create different sounds from plucking the strings
Brian May's Homemade Guitar, Made From Old Tables, Bike and Motorcycle Parts & More. It's called "The Red Special." Or sometimes "The Fireplace." That's the guitar that Brian May (guitarist of Queen and physics researcher) began building with his father circa 1963, when Brian was about 16 years old
The amazing thing is. He and his father built the Red Special somewhere around 1962-63. There was nothing like at the Time. A fledged whammy bar and 25 fretted neck. And the electronics electronics were very advanced.
This is a variation of the same solo he’s played throughout his career, loads of delay. My favourite May solo is from “Days of our Lives” so much emotion and feel
Well there's a couple main reasons he can't do Brian May: he plays with a coin, which has a profound effect on his tone. He also plays with a guitar that he crafted himself. Even the Red Special copies aren't exactly like his. Lastly, he uses three Vox AC30's which have been heavily modified to Brian's personal preferences. So it's no wonder Steve Vai can't emulate him, nor can anyone else for that matter. Unless you've got the gear Brian has, you're never gonna sound anywhere close to him...
Eileen J.M. Yeah, obviously. As it is with any guitarist. But the difference that Brian May's gear makes to his tone compared to other guitarists is much, MUCH greater. That's why I think that quote from Steve Vai is a little bit ludicrous.
+Eileen J.M. it's mostly about the gear though. If you have roughly the same gear as a certain guitarist and you study their style long enough, you will be able to sound like them; not exactly, but very close. Brian's rig, however, is so personalized and one-of-a-kind that only Brian can sound like Brian because he's the only one in the world that has that exact gear.
Brian to just such a rock and roll icon. A good person, thoughtful, good sense of humor, talented as hell, and loves music in a way that inspires others. In my top five favorites fur sure.
And only one made before a certain year, I forget which, because after that the metals used were changed and it affected the feel and sound of the coin.
And......when he farted while he played a massive Inflated condom flew across the auditorium with Freddie's juice spitting all over the Pakistani side of the unfortunate crowd. @@Jabber-ig3iw
i dont get why people are comenting negatively on this, the emotion and soul he's putting into his playing is crazy, you can shred all day long and probably play better than this but if you just shred the same positions of the same scale like a robot theres no emotion, what this man is playing may be clumsy but he is putting his heart and soul into his music which makes him an amazing muscian and guitar player
When they shred, it's just talentless; however Brian's performance is unreal. It is different but in its own way and that's good. I thought that I heard the solos from many of queens older songs within the solo. It's such a beautiful thing in and of itself and the talent put into this masterpiece is amazing. And to think this is probably improvisational. Absolutely amazing.
Music isn't a competition. If it were there are several I can think of. Brain May is an awesome player for sure but there are so many others.
That little twist of his head when he looks at the audience while he's playing sometimes...you can feel him offering his heart and soul to you on a silver platter. God love ya Brian.
Brian May proves the assertion, you don't play music with an instrument. You play it with your emotions. Your instrument simply gets your point across.

I saw Brian when he attended in London May 2014, the closing night of the We will rock you, musical with the Queen's music, it had glorious 12 year run, and I only saw it 3 times. People were in tears...
Brian May gives his best in songs - sometimes you can listen to his abilities during his solos, sometimes you have to pay attention to his solos in the background.
I admire what I know about Brian May to a great degree...his studious interest in science, his chops (few others could sit down with EVH and keep up that readily, listen to the Star Fleet Project) and his approach to guitar sound...he did not let himself be that influenced by the established tone of the time, he completely sought out his own tone...
Wow! the second part brings tears to the eyes and makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Mr May really is something very special. Pure liquid sound flows effortlessly from that guitar.
BRIAN MAY dude! Is about feeling! Not about fatty speedmasters arrogant shit! This is melody. Not a competition for who hit more notes per millisecond.
Fatty speedmasters?? If you think Mr. May is shitty, I would hate to hear your Godaweful taste in guitar masters. Billy Squire? Justin Bieber? I waste no more time on your dumbass comments
Did you understand my comment? I say that BRIAN MAY is feeling and not a guitar player fatty speedmaster. IDIOT! I ain't complaining. Just saying that I hate speedmaster guys. I like BRIAN MAY. Do you need me to draw the picture for ya?
yeh me too peterson, twice in scotland in '79 and 82, the best nights of my life and i got to see john and freddie, as much as i love roger and brian i could'nt stand and watch lambert! 👑✊🇬🇧
This brings me so much memories... the best memories from the 80's/90's for me are within this solo. In Portugal when we miss someone very much we say "saudade". And I miss so very much Freddie and the Queen.. We lived true life at that time. We had true music! To Freddie and all my past friends and family... you're not forgotten!
Any proper Queen fan will have a huge lump in their throat when freddie comes in and sings bijou. Fantastic. Brian seldom takes as many risks as this with an improv with a few unintended turns that turn out great and into that great and difficult bijou from Innuendo.
For me, the best version of Brighton Rock is still the one from Live Killers. Pure artistry! It's shaped like a piece of classical music that would do the likes of Bach proud. Having said that, I've seen Brian work his magical three part guitar harmonies live on stage on three separate occasions; he never disappointed and I was blown away by his musical genius on each occasion.

He Is The Most Greatest Guitarist And Uncomparable To Others!
It just kept getting better and better the solos I loved it , especially in the end 🎸 rock on Bryan may
There are guitar greats.... and there is May... forever... I bow. and so should you!

Bravo Monsieur ! ❤
He's a truly great rock guitarist, for an astrophysicist. Or maybe I have that backwards. Nevermind - let's just shorten it to "He's truly great."
Leigh Williams well said. not to mention his love for badgers.
+Leigh Williams I recall meeting his Ph.D. thesis advisor Michael Rowan-Robinson back around redshift 6

The unique thing in the way Brian May plays I always described it as Joy. The sound has a Joy to it, that you can feel he has and it is infectious.
"Brighton Rock" was Brian May's greatest solo guitar work!
What a world to live in, blessed with people like Brian May
Absolutely phenomenal. Brian will always be the most awesome guitar master ever. 🥰 Brian & his Red Special & 🥰👑
Thank you for following my page.thanks for the love and support ❤ ❤❤.May God continue to bless you✌✌✌.
His signature guitars are a joy to play. Never was a huge Queen fan, but they were undeniably talented.
I am 66 now. first heard queen in a car. such a different sound. Freddie what a voice Brian omg!.
I love queen it's makes me cry go listen go Brian play. Freddie I still have not heard a voice as his go this day. Bryan I love u . I know your depressed as I. One day I hope go meet u. Your awesome go this day♩😂💖✌🤘
Sir Brian, it's an amazing guitar solo. You're the best guitarist ever.
Give me goosebumps, love it ❣️
All time favourite, greatest guitarist that's ever been
Guess what guys, music isn't a competition.
no, but stealing a guy's icon is. not cool stealing my icon!
I think it should be ,
H r is the map master
Thank you
But if it would be, Brian would be the winner☺️
I saw Brian when he attended in London May 2014, the closing night of the We will rock you, musical with the Queen's music, it had glorious 12 year run, and I only saw it 3 times. People were in tears...
Brian May, Astrophysicist, guitar player and awesome person!
And that ladies and gentlemen is why queen is the greatest. g-d he is good at his craft
Brian May gives his best in songs - sometimes you can listen to his abilities during his solos, sometimes you have to pay attention to his solos in the background.
Amazing how Freddie, seems like a lost family member to so many of us.
Bijou another classic written by Bri and Fred. I'm so pleased they got to do so much together on very little time. ❤
Brian May, one of the most underrated players of all time. Listen to Queen's first few albums, absolute perfection
Lame
Wow! the second part brings tears to the eyes and makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Mr May really is something very special. Pure liquid sound flows effortlessly from that guitar.
Just love this solo. Incredible !
Underrated musician ,talented, intelligent,gentleman.
Do you need me to draw the picture for ya?
rickho5 haha idiot
I,ve always been blown away with Brian's style, sound and his home built guitar that makes him unique. What a performance, what a sound!
Only one word needed - Beautiful!!!!
Thanks for being a supporter of my passion
I was lucky enough to see Queen perform live twice, both while Freddie was still alive. This guitar solo is unbelievable to witness.
yeh me too peterson, twice in scotland in '79 and 82, the best nights of my life and i got to see john and freddie, as much as i love roger and brian i could'nt stand and watch lambert! 👑✊🇬🇧
Me to, i saw them Early in thier carrer the first tour in the US and later in the
late 80s, amazing
Its amazing how much feel he transitions from that guitar!
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
9:29 is where every guitarist just goes into a state of pure bliss. This whole solo really, but once 9:29 hits 🤤
Can’t forget about the awesome Last Horizon solo right before it 😁
Last horizon truly is beautiful
What song is it someone pls tell me
@@taeoh2743 it’s called last horizon
This brings me so much memories... the best memories from the 80's/90's for me are within this solo. In Portugal when we miss someone very much we say "saudade". And I miss so very much Freddie and the Queen.. We lived true life at that time. We had true music!
To Freddie and all my past friends and family... you're not forgotten!
After all these years, when I watch this my heart sinks and my eyes water.
Dios mío pero cuánta emoción puesta al tocar... Increíble joderrrr!!!
Any proper Queen fan will have a huge lump in their throat when freddie comes in and sings bijou. Fantastic. Brian seldom takes as many risks as this with an improv with a few unintended turns that turn out great and into that great and difficult bijou from Innuendo.
I'm 3 seconds into the video and loving it. Such a distinctive sound!
brian may is just a guitar legend at best. No matter how old he gets, he will always be a great guitarist of all time.
Freddie Mercury, sarà sempre orgoglioso di aver avuto nella sua band,un grande amico e artista come Brian May👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
For me, the best version of Brighton Rock is still the one from Live Killers. Pure artistry! It's shaped like a piece of classical music that would do the likes of Bach proud. Having said that, I've seen Brian work his magical three part guitar harmonies live on stage on three separate occasions; he never disappointed and I was blown away by his musical genius on each occasion.
Brian gave us the wonderful songs that are used all around. Awesomeness does not come much bigger than Brian May.
One of the best guitar players of all time: Brian May.
Brilliant!!,Brilliant !! Brilliant Guitarist.of all time !!
Брайен не просто великий гитарист. Он великий МУЗЫКАНТ!
love the sound love the guitar love the drums love queen
Damn that Bijou got me right in the feels. Always takes me back to a time when I lost someone special to me
