For everyone who doesn't get how this brand of comedy works, the only members of the show are Henry and Jonathan. The maze marshal was sat next to Jonathan, who will have told him to say he is a maze marshal and that if asked his name he should say John. The girl Anya was told if asked to pick a color to say maroon. The thing here is to remember that it isn't magic, so it's not like a "plant" in the audience. I think the maroon was the magic, part of the power of suggestion by penn and teller, because when the woman says maroon, the two on stage smiles geniunely

I'm amazed the act ends with a real magic trick. Except that since he claims the audence member did the guess, it does not appear to be a prediction, even if it's exactly a prediction set-up
You mean the guy wearing a maroon suit wasn't any kind of force at all? I have listened to multiple magicians talk about "forces" and other techniques of theirs from interviews and whatnot. Its a combination of psychology and also ( I believe) something to do with the difference between male and females way of thinking. The most eye catching color in front of the audience was maroon and if you know the methods it wouldn't be that hard to make someone guess a certain color.
@@BigHossPlayz you can look at other video of the same act. It is the same clothes and different color named Plus, I expect plenty of people woulf not even naturally think at this word
@@BigHossPlayz You're suggesting the magicians knew with 100% certainty she would say maroon, which is definitely not true. There are many other factors that will determine what she says, not just the fact that she's a girl and there's a guy wearing a colorful suit on stage. I'm almost certain that chalkboard is electronic and someone remotely wrote the color, hence him waiting a few seconds before revealing it and the fake chalk noises in the background.
@@stupidactivities1424 OK, First of all, It's not called a force for no reason, you thinks it's a coincidence that magicians always pick your card? It's a calculated decision. Secondly, there is no way that board is electronic. when he turns it around, it is too thin to hide wiring, not to mention an apparatus that can write ANY given color in a matter of 4 seconds. If you will look, the "O's" are double circled. So he probably just wrote over maroon on the board so the mics could pick up the chalk writing. Penn and Teller are masters of forces to the point where on "Fool Us" they can come up with multiple options how a magician could have forced a single component of 1 trick, JUST BY WATCHING IT ONCE, so it's not crazy to rule out there is a force for the color of maroon. I'll also plant this monkey wrench in as well. It could always be a plant and they guess obscure colors for the laugh and then the reveal. The small guy was in the audience when it started so why not have 2?
You couldn't make it up....my daughter gave my wife and I tickets to see this show in London so we duly travelled down, went to eat in Covent Garden and then made our way in excited anticipation to the theatre. We took our seats and five minutes before showtime a rather rough looking security guard walks onto the stage and informs us we need to evacuate the theatre. Of course we all just sit their laughing as knowing Mischief as we do this is clearly part of the show. A moment later the manager walks out, assure us this is not a drill or hoax and we all need to vacate now! So out we trooped on a cold January Saturday night into Londons West end....as did every other theatre in the vicinity. Seems it was a bomb hoax but by then the roads were being closed, the police were everywhere and it became clear there would be no Mischief Show for us...we walked back to our hotel bemoaning the fact our evening out had been thrown of course...we are still to see the show so seeing this little clip has just wetted my appetite for re-booking when we are able....

All these people complaining about plants in the audience, I just want to ask: you do realise this is a comedy don't you? The point is to make jokes, you don't berate stand up comedians for writing their jokes in advance so why berate mischief theatre for doing the same?
It’s because the guy on stage is wearing maroon, which is an unusual colour for a suit, so then you got to thinking about the colour maroon. It’s one of those fun mind tricks. If he was wearing a bright yellow or green suit you would have said yellow or green
8:47 - This bit is a very simple piece of magic called Lynx Magic blackboard - I won't reveal how it is done, but it is easily researched, and involved no plants or stooges in the audience, which many on here suspect with this woman chosen.
I’m wondering if the blackboard (or at least the version in the video I’ve seen) would be capable of writing that in 7 seconds, maybe they edited it slightly. It’s a very neat (and expensive) bit of kit though it’s a bit slow, I guess the trick is keeping your letters small and having some probably options prepared in advance.
Just to add - I am rather inclined to think there was some suggestion going on, as well as props. I'm not sure if I was sitting there I'd have necessarily come up with maroon (it would be reliant on the audience member knowing the distinction between it and brown) - but the entire routine is *extremely* heavy on the use of the letter M, with the "mind, mind, mind" echo, "maze martial", "mate" etc. - and there aren't really any other common colour names beginning with M. (I think, on a subconscious level, all the Ms make the whole thing slightly funnier too.)
@@william-uk The chalkboard Henry used was a specially made board, used by magicians for years, and most certainly Penn and Teller would know the Lynx Magic Board - please remember, Penn and Teller are involved with this, they were not simply introducing this act.

Havent seen that one before. That was wonderful
I'm so glad this clip is back on here, Henry is so funny. I saw the show live last year before Covid hit us
I just adore Henry Lewis in this. I first saw him in Peter Pan Goes Wrong in 2016 and have loved him in this. He is so good. Watch him interacting with the audience. His timing is wonderful. He is great with audiences. Just look at how he reacted to the first man saying he was retired. Perfect timing. Great actor.
I cannot wait to watch this !! I'll be booking for my Mrs birthday! I've seen all the productions! The Play that goes wrong, A comedy about a bank robbery, Peter Pan goes wrong ! Too good!!
Ok I have no idea how this came into my playlist, but know that this group has gotten a new American fan that thinks this work is amazing and I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time. 👏 Bravo!
You, what’s your job? Shanananananana Prince of Wales has been stuck in my head for days now, cheers 😂😂
The guy in the background at 8:12 is Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit
Thank you!!!! I can't afford to go to the play that goes wrong AND magic goes wrong so it helps to see previews of both to help me choose so thank you 🙂
No problem! Happy to help :)
Ooh which show are you going to go watch?
@@personinthepalace well as of right now the play that goes wrong is most likely as Scotland is the cheapest for me to fly to but if tour dates for magic goes wrong open up in Scotland then I may have to rethink.
Its so difficult to decide because everything they do is incredible 😅
@@Zynga76 Sounds like a good plan! I hope that you have a great time!! And I hope that you will be able to see both shows some day :)
@@Zynga76 I myself have been very fortunate to see both of them and in all honesty they are both absolutely hilarious from beginning to end, so no matter which one you pick, i guarantee you will enjoy the show regardless :)
Nick Park behind John looks so damn happy! He's smiling just like Wallace!
Finally!!!!! I’ve been looking for this thank you so much
No problem! I actually posted it unlisted a few months ago but decided to try to reupload it in (hopefully) better quality haha
Also you might be interested in this video (Tptgw winning best new comedy): th-cam.com/video/DZdHRted9QY/w-d-xo.html
It’s unlisted so I have it saved in my Mischief Theatre playlist :)
@@personinthepalace You posted it unlisted! I knew this clip was somewhere on the internet and I have been trying to figure out how I initially watched it for months. Thank you for re-uploading it. Been driving me insane.
@@letswatchstuff2009 No problem! I know several people have posted it before me, but they either made their videos private or Mischief took it down (which was why I posted it as unlisted at first haha). But I’m taking a risk and posting it public. Fingers crossed it won’t get taken down!
I'm seeing this in a few weeks in Newcastle, I can't wait.
For the record. Amazing show.
@John Smith Had seen this in Hull; completely agree
They are so talented and deserve every bit of success.
i bet that the person raising his hand on the part "i could take a Jonathan" was Jonathan Sayer, or maybe not because he was playing Dennis.. ahaha
he's not dennis in this, Magic goes wrong doesn't involve any of the Cornley Polytechnic drama society characters
It is the same clothes and different color named
Plus, I expect plenty of people woulf not even naturally think at this word
@@ArthurRainbow th-cam.com/video/9Wy02q4r4Nw/w-d-xo.html The small guy is wearing a beige suit and the guy "guesses" Beige. Coincidence?
Went to see this last night at the Apollo - fantastic show!
I love this. Funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. I love the play that goes wrong too!
Astounding! These guys are brilliant.
Best thing I have seen in ages!
Watching magic goes wrong this October so excited
That was proper brilliant.
oh my god i'm literally in bits at the Maze Marshall part
This is so great
The echo mind kill me everytime.
That was excellent. Not about the material as much as it was simple timing and pace. Couldn't quit laughing.
6:53!
"Think of a card in your mind!
*mind, mind, mind*
Not THAT one! X'D
The maze John looks terrified xd
Came across you guys..... Funny as f. The royal variety show isn't what it used to be.... You guys/gals brought a little something back to what was missing.... Our kids watch some crap now days not truly knowing what British comedy is.... Brilliant absolutely brilliant 😊
BRING IT TO SAN JOSE!!!! Front row baby
I want it to come to Orlando!
Funny, clean, damned good entertainment.
8:32 “What city am I thinking of?” “Hull!”
All these people complaining about plants in the audience, I just want to ask: you do realise this is a comedy don't you? The point is to make jokes, you don't berate stand up comedians for writing their jokes in advance so why berate mischief theatre for doing the same?
The 5 of clubs big was masterful
That guy when he said he was retired had great after reactions raising his brows and shoulders
Loved this saw it a few weeks ago and one of the jobs was I buy cakes for a garden centre
Shananana Prince of Wales! Fucking gold
The maroon one got me, especially since I also was thinking of maroon, which just made the whole thing that much more shocking
It’s because the guy on stage is wearing maroon, which is an unusual colour for a suit, so then you got to thinking about the colour maroon. It’s one of those fun mind tricks.
If he was wearing a bright yellow or green suit you would have said yellow or green
Lol.
Basic trick.
People with simple mind would be easily influenced.
I'd never have said maroon in a million years.
@@elenalizabeth There's another version where the color is mauve, but "Brian" has a tan suit, so it's not because of that
This was brilliant
This was hillarious.
It's like if James Corden was good
Edit: Holy crap that was actually a pretty good trick (if you ignore the possibility of plants)
“You, what’s your job? Prince of Wales.” Not anymore. It took 73 years to get a promotion but he finally got it. 😂
i want more!
What a great act made me laugh out loud and I was sat on my own at the time as well
Absolutely brilliant!
They're a brilliant team.
8:47 - This bit is a very simple piece of magic called Lynx Magic blackboard - I won't reveal how it is done, but it is easily researched, and involved no plants or stooges in the audience, which many on here suspect with this woman chosen.
Has nothing to do with Jonathon wearing a marooon suit right?
@@simonseis744 No - the blackboard magic act is famous, and has been used by Penn and Teller, who are of course involved with this act remember.
What your name… John…… was looking for john….. 😂😂😂
I choose to believe a Maze Marshall is a guy who finds people who get so lost in hedge mazes they’ve been there all night, much like IKEA obviously has
Aaaaand the first few minutes are EXACTLY how cold-reading works. Almost.😂
Pure Gold.
I'd cry if it said "Mark" on the board at 2:22
The most ambitious crossover in history
i busted out laughing when John said his name
anyone else get jumpscared by prince charles?
bloody brilliant
I love these guys ! Only found them on here during the summer. That was a bit like the legend that is/was Tommy Cooper - a lot of hilarity and then BOOM ! #spoileralert something really clever to finish !
It's still weird for me they call them by their real group name "Mischief Theatre" and not "Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society"
john wasnt a plant. (maze marshall)
only plants were on stage and I'm assuming the maroon jacket on 'steve' is a red herring to make you think it was psychologically manipulated when the third plant said maroon.
Just to make clear, the man sitting next to Jonathan in the audience was a real member of the audience, however the seat next to him was always reserved for Jonathan, and just before the act started, Jonathan would have sat down and chatted with the audience member, instructing him on what to do, e.g. his name, his job as a maze marshal etc. Now Henry on stage didn't know the job title Jonathan would give the audience member, which is why Henry is openly surprised at the job.
Electronic chalkboard
Wooow... Okay, the thinking of the number and the city, he could fake that as a joke --- but HOW DID HE WRITE MAROON???!!!
With a chalk stick.
genuinely how did they do the maroon joke !?!
Joke's on you, for _I_ am most amused and amazed!
