      Well the way I believe its done for the show (which rumor has it this performance was planted) but for the real show, the color is written on the chalkboard remotely. A very common form of magic. Also for the Johns, someone else mentioned that he may watch for a hand when he asks for any Johns in and ignores who it was but remembers and comes to ask them again later

    This is at least the third televised performance of this one act, but I like it because I get to see how they switch it up a little. It's a little harder with a small studio audience, but Hen always does great.
    On the slight negative, I wish they ended with a real trick instead of a stooge. (Which I believe is how it was originally written with Penn & Teller.) But I can appreciate this way how it's big and consistent.

    • @MisterAppleEsq
      @MisterAppleEsq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Aww is the colour not a real trick? I thought they just told someone to say they were called John, and then there was genuine magic* behind the prediction.
      *well not genuine magic, you know what I mean

    • @notme222
      @notme222 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@MisterAppleEsq Sadly, no. It could have been. There's a trick chalkboard called the "Lynx". It uses a wireless connection to have someone offstage enter the word. And I'm sure other methods are possible.
      It wouldn't even be necessary to set up the "John". Just spot someone raising their hand in the beginning, and ignore them until later. Although some shows that just wouldn't work, especially in a smaller theater.
      But in this case, we know from audience members that it's set up. They specifically show a list of colors with more obscure names, like "fuchsia" or "beige". That way it's low tech and a more impressive result to everyone else. But not a real trick.

    • @UnitSe7en
      @UnitSe7en ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since when did having a plant in the audience not make it a real illusion?

      @@UnitSe7en Penn and Teller don’t allow tricks involving plants in their own show Fool Us, that’s one standard

    • @notme222
      @notme222 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@q-tuber7034 Exactly. And you may know Penn & Teller got a reputation for occasionally revealing tricks, because often a good trick is even more impressive when you know how.
      That's not the case with having an audience plant. Most people are impressed by slight of hand, or by calculations, or by cleverly designed props, or by specialized technology. But no one would ever be impressed by "I knew he would say it because I told him to say it."
      Now sure, I'm being a bit snobbish and if it entertains the rest of the audience that's what matters. But I think a "real" trick is always better because then even the volunteer you picked gets to enjoy it.
