Is it time for us all to go back to finishing school? In today's video, I am exploring what it takes to enjoy entertaining, and what we could learn from the past! What do you think of finishing school? Did you attend?

    I LOVE this so much!!
I did not attend finishing school. I’m not sure it was in our area as a teen. I was a child of the 80s!
I came from a large family and have a large family. A holiday can easily reach 40 with just my girls, the older daughters their spouses, grandchildren. I’m involved with the women’s ministry at church and enjoy feeding the masses! Preparation is KEY!
With 7 daughters, hosting has been something we have taught them to do. They can all host beautifully and enjoy hosting together.
When the older girls were at home, we hosted themed parties. It started with homeschool curriculum and literature. When we completed, we would host the themed party. Ive collected so many different and interchangeable things that one daughter and I are thinking of hosting and opening it to homeschool groups in our area.
All of that to say, your advice is so helpful! Even after all I host, greeting my guests as you recommend is my new addition!
Your home is so lovely! Your event sounds perfect!! You are a treasure to your friends, I’m sure!! Keep it up! Our society needs things like this! We can definitely learn from each other.

I did not attend finishing school. I learned a lot by watching my mother. She was a stay at home mom..all the events were at our home..including year end sit down prime rib dinners for my dad's employees. When I got married I was determined to do it all! Lol my first dinner was Cornish game hens stuffed with wild rice. I thought my mother in law was going to have a cow!! She bragged me up to all their friends. (Not my intention). Later on we got more ready going. Planning ahead is definitely key. My mom taught me to set the table ahead of time..and pre prep everything you can! Love your videos❤

I really enjoyed this video and agree that there’s a learning curve when it comes to hosting. It’s very true that preparation is crucial to ensure the hosts are relaxed, which in turn is key to the guests feeling welcome. I love hosting and it’s such a treat to be hosted - whether casual or more formal.

I really enjoyed this video and learned so much. You inspire me! ❤ I enjoy hosting, but my husband and I don't do it very often. I don't feel very good at it, probably because I don't give myself much practice and I'm an introvert. Thank you for sharing your prep with us!

Such a timely video! I am hosting my daughter's baby shower for 40 next weekend. She wants a ladies' garden party. I love hosting, and we do alot throughout the year, but mostly groups of 10 or less. I have to admit when it gets to be the last few days before having a party or dinner, I get so stressed. I'd love to get to the point in life that I don't anymore. I have tried and true recipes I stick with for entertaining and use the "help" of mixing in pre-made along with homemade. I try to remember that I always love being invited to someone's event and never mind what they're serving or how fancy/informal it is and I'm sure people feel the same for my events. They're happy to be included. It hasn't helped with the stress, but I'm working on it!

@@OldWorldFarmHouse HI! I hope your dinner party was a success! The baby shower went really well - the weather cooperated and everyone said they loved the event. I was exhausted the next day. I don't know how to not be stressed; I want everyone to enjoy themselves and things to run smoothly. I do like hosting dinner parties for 1-2 couples plus us. That I can relax and enjoy.

This is my first time coming across your channel and I absolutely love it! I actually had to search what finishing school was. I would’ve never thought to attend, but at this new stage of my life being a homemaker and stay at home mom, I’m definitely wanting to learn the proper etiquettes. So many great tips in this video. I’ll be shopping for napkins next!
