To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Clay Terran. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Clay's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Clay Terran truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Clay's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Capcom's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Clay Terran tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

You have no idea how happy I was to hear that Clay rant, especially the part about FranMaya only serving as a double date to Wrightworth when they can very much be their own standalone thing. Really solid rant with a lot of great points that I never thought of before/never could put into words before.
I believe that the Clay Terran fanbase exists solely because he's barely got anything other than some art and the knowledge that he's Apollo's friend. Capcom essentially gave people a "write your own character arc" card.
Also it might be because the protagonist in Great Ace Attorney Chronicles looks kinda like Clay.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

OH MY GOD YES. I really like Blackquill as a character and he has cool BGM and sprites, but he's by far the toughest, worst and most infuriating prosecutor to go against. I had a whole love-hate-love arc with him.

legitimately my only reasoning for why Clay is so popular, is just, it's the absolutely the most obvious thing to fix with an AU or fix-it fic? he's a literal blank state for fanfic writers because Capcom gave him nothing but a cardboard standee corpse.
i do fully think the female ships deserve a lot more fanfiction though.

Athena is possibly my favorite character in the whole series, I'm so glad you liked her! The entire Cykes-Blackquill family is great, really. The emotional core of their story is strong enough for me to rate this game extremely highly despite its many evident flaws.
Also the whole rant about Clay Terran and the lack of WLW ace attorney fic is SO TRUUUUUUUUUUUE. Aura is literally the closest the franchise has ever come to actual canon queer rep, it's a crime she's not appreciated more. That's one thing I'll never understand about fandom culture, really: why, if given the choice, would anyone would choose to NOT write about lesbians??? Hopefully the remasters coming next year will bring more appreciation to the 3DS games in general.

I wich we got more detail about Clay and Apollo's relashionship cause tbh i can see it romantic or not doesn't matter to me.
Like at least meeting Clay in like the third case would had been anoth for me. Seeing him with Apollo interact from Athena's perspective and maybe even Clay, if Apollo was gone for like 5 Minutes or so having a heart to heart with Phoenix and Athena, like forshadowing a little, giving information about Apollo we never could get other then from Apollo himself and since Apollo isn't that much of a sharing person, it would be nice for them to learn.
Like there is a lot of potential, it just... didn't got used and that makes me sad...

Yeah I got into Klapollo fics after finishing AA4 and I was like “Who’s this guy who shows up and has no describable personality other than ‘Apollo’s friend’?” And then I google him and it’s his death sprite and I’m like oh he’s a nothing victim character. Okay why is he here Apollo has better dynamics with like everyone else.

Robin in particular is a character with a lot of controversy given how she appears trans coded and the motive of pretebding to be male doesn't make a ton of sense. I like interpreting Robin as a trans woman. I know they canonically say she was born a girl but she could just be saying that because why not? If she knew she felt like a girl as long as she could remember it could work there's also no reason she needs to out herself as trans. Makes a lot more sense than her parents saying only males can be successful lawyers given we've had several successful female lawyers in AA. And its way better than the alternative of trans masc Robin because yikes. Having her parents pressure her to present as her gaab just makes sense to me idk that's just how I choose to interpret it 🤷♂️
