Want more pain for Klavier? Well, here's something that the Japanese fandom noted and were concerned with - in the original version, since almost everyone's Japanese (Klavier in that one is a Japanese guy who's an Ameriboo who peppers English instead of German; so hence he was changed to an American who's a Europhile in the translated English), societal Japanese values were brought up, and one was familial dishonour which is a huge deal in Japan (bottom line is if a family member does something very wrong or is considered or seen as wrong, others in the family get associated simply by blood and the family name).
So basically, Klavier (well, at least Japanese Klavier, Kyoya) not only has no support system, but society in that context would associate, look, and judge him based on his brother and all the heinous things that his brother had done (doesn't help he looks like him, too). At least with Edgeworth, he wasn't von Karma's blood relative so even *he* has that over Klavier.
I've heard of that in real life Japan. But if they reference that in the games then wouldn't it be even worse for Pearl Fey? I mean both her mother and eldest sister were executed for (conspiring to) killing someone.
@@pokemongranny1 To be fair, Pearl is also related to Maya, and Maya is shown to make a name for herself as the new Fey clan leader. So, at the very least, I think that could soften things a little. Klavier, meanwhile, doesn't have anyone other than Kristoph in regards of family.

FINALLY people who acknowledge the fact that Klavier needs therapy 👏 bro literally saw his best friend AND big brother get sentenced to jail for murder (while being part of the reason why they did), and he simultaneously found out the attorney he had disbarred was actually innocent and it was all his brother's fault... And then we're supposed to believe he's doing well mentally?? Hell nah, get that man therapy.

Man there are characters capcom did dirty and then theres Klavier, like Franziska is probably the second least developed prosecutor in the series (layton crossover excluded) but even she gets more than Klav does simply due to having greater screentime and actual importance in games outside her debut

As an AJ:AA fan, this video was so great, so funny. I was so happy to see that these people also loved the cast from this game, and it's such a missed opportunity that neither the Kitaki family nor Vera made a return. Also, later games (but DD especially) did my boy Klavier dirty by not utilizing him better, and ESPECIALLY not giving more context/insight into the Gavin brothers and their relationship.
Also the Sharkboy and Klavagirl pun had me in stitches and I couldn't breathe, I was laughing so much.
Everything you two said about Klavier is so true, especially in comparison to Edgeworth, poor boy needs therapy fr (also a support system! Man's been put through the wringer, why is that never acknowledged?!) Spitting fact all the way during that section. Can't wait for your take on the spin offs! /hj

Apollo Justice: I named myself after this man, I continue to use this name despite having a different name because of the INFLUX of Apollo's already in the ace attorney fandom because we are all predictable. I cannot in my brain disconnect this man fully from my era where I kinned him, he's a pass, love him though!!
Kristoph Gavin: Pass, super interesting character though
Phoenix Wright: Smash, he's not a great mentor but I kind of think that's the point, and I really love how they explored his character here (even if it is. Tragically basically ignored in DD besides a few passing details like Apollo showing he doesn't fully trust Phoenix still.) I understand the full main character bit with Apollo, and I raise that HAD they executed Dual Destinies better and didn't seem to flat out ignore the Apollo Justice's plot, I think they could've properly pushed his character in a better way. Unfortunately THEY FUCKED IT UP (Thanks Yamazaki ❤️) and Phoenix is also watered down while Apollo has. So much going on it makes him cluttered backstory wise. There, a whole rant to make up for the very small amount I also said about Phoenix last time
Winston Payne: Pass. Dude that suit is so fucking ugly
Olga Orly: Smash, her transition sprite between her delicate persona and her actual self is so good. The sprite work in this game might be the best in the whole series 2d sprite wise. Actually putting this rant here since you both did, Apollo Justice USED to be my favourite ace attorney game, as well as the soundtrack formerly being my favourite. Horiyama, Okugawa, Kimura, and Takumi (which I did not know also composed music for this game) did a fantastic job on the soundtrack. The character designs made here by Nuri are fantastic and it makes me so happy he was lead character designer in future games as well because I love his work.
Klavier Gavin: Smash I love this man, I am convinced Kazuya Nuri is the only person in the Ace Attorney team who can draw him because what is going ON with Dual Destinies/Spirit of Justice Klav's. His sprites gota absolutely ruined in the 3d, he never looks good, and no hate to his english voice actor in Dual Destinies but I much preferred the voice he had in Apollo Justice. Turnabout Serenade is a funny case (Hey guys, The Guitar's Serenade was the theme composed by Shu Takumi, can you believe it, it's almost like he wanted to drive us insane) and it's super weak in trial because the person they arrested is so dumb to me (The weapon can hurt adults from the kickback. This is a supposedly blind little boy. We arrested him under the impression he was blind. What the hell) I think Klavier is entertaining during the investigations, especially the first one it's super funny, but the trials were definitely weak. I really love that detail you both pointed out to Klav being so incredibly lonely when you look at it, and even more, I think it's worse because I feel like you can tell he WANTS to get along with Apollo or Ema, he himself is not terribly antagonistic towards them, and the fact that both Apollo and Ema don't care for Klavier or downright hate him while he likely doesn't feel that same animosity back makes it hurt more. Edgeworth tried to push the people who cared for him away, but Klavier has nobody but he isn't TRYING to make it that way.
Ema Skye: Smash, she is super cute here
Guy Eldoon: Okay okay okay. Smash. He was incredibly helpful and he generally seems super nice in actuality.
Plum Kitaki: SMASH. I really love the Kitaki's, it really highlights this game having so many contradicting characters. Delicate women who turn out to be killers and also gold diggers, gang members who actually help the wider community, etc. Plum is so very attractive.
Winfred Kitaki: Smash, I love how the whole time we think the dark eyes were just shadow and then we just see they're his eyebrows, I really love him. He's super sweet, super nice Dad. You both are right, there aren't a lot of good dad's in ace attorney. When you guys get to TGAA (if you both ever do) there will be a few more good ones to choose from I swear
Wocky Kitaki: he's so silly and even though he's older than me (not by very much, granted) he's so itty bitty coded that I can only ever see him as a kid. Pass, I'd love to hang out with him though I don't stand for people who find him annoying
Pal Maraktis: Pass. Also yes it's a twisted ankle
Westley Stickler: Pass he's so weird
Alita Tiala: She's in the same vain as Dahlia where I feel bad for her, and I think she was pretty much in the right, but I still don't like her attitude afterwards, so it's a pass. Glad all our minds went to Dahlia for her
Valant Gramarye: One time a friend of mine quote retweeted a post calling Valant hot and I said "Dude what. But I agree yeah." the Gramarye's are so interesting and Valant is so hot and he's fun. We'll talk about my opinions on Zak later. Ace Attorney redesigns are a mess in the later games, but I'm gonna give Valant this, he also has more visible wrinkles ALONG with the mustache. Way better than stretched older Pearl who looks 12 but is supposed to be, what, 18? I don't think he animals mind him
Lamiroir/Thalassa Gramarye: She's so fucking pretty. I'm also a Thalassa defender of course, I cannot believe people would compare her to Misty like that, wish they didn't cure her blindness. Overall, good character, smash.
Daryan Crescend: PISSES ME OFF. THE BIGGEST L ON THE CASE ACTUALLY BECAUSE THEY COULD'VE EXPLORED HIS MOTIVE FOR ALL THAT HE DID AND INSTEAD HE BASICALLY GOES "Fuck off!!!" AND PLAYS THE GUITAR OR SOME SHIT. ARGHHHH i like that hes a shark though. Pass (really like the hair redesign though!)
Romein LeTouse: Shu Takumi was writing this case and needed a name so he googled RECIPES, saw romain lettuce, and made it a name, I'm not even joking the japanese name for this guy is Rōmein Retasu. He's a nothing character, so pass
Spark Brushel: Fun fact, Takumi used himself as a representation for making this guys sprites, that fact makes me laugh very. Why does he blink up. Devastating to hear you gave him the Mike Meekins voice, they are NOT one in the same. He's not a technical terrible guy but it's a pass. They do a journalist character better in TGAA
Drew Misham: I think he's actually a good dad at the end of it all, I do think he cared for Vera. He's a smash for me I like his funny hair.
Vera Misham: It's a pass for me but for a different reason because even though she looks young I can see how she's 19. My best friend, however, named herself after Vera Misham and I now have them inextricably linked, so it makes her a pass, super cure design though, I really love her. (I also need more artist friends LOL.) You both point out that we don't get to talk to Vera a lot, but a theme of this game is by one reason or another, you don't get to communicate very much with the people we are defending. Anyways, really love her, again it's a pass
Magnifi Gramarye: Pass, I don't really care for him but a neat design (btw the first case of AJ IS the best case in the game imo)
Zak Gramarye/Shadi Smith: I don't care how fucking attractive this man might be, I think he's a terrible, terrible person. I cannot believe he would abandon Trucy like that, hell, even using her as a way to get away with leaving the courtroom TO abandon her. If Phoenix wasn't there, or hell, if he was not as kind as he is, I think Trucy would've very much been left alone for a while.

Every time I see hobo Phoenix, he reminds me of hobo Hei from Darker than Black. They look similar (haven't even seen DtB, tho).
I also feel sorry for Thalassa. The Gramaryes aside, what happened to Jove (and Apollo) likely broke her pretty bad. ...Also a little envious of her, I'd love to have a husband like Jove.
