    An impressive body of scientific evidence over the last 15 years documents long term benefits of carbohydrate-restricted, especially ketogenic, diets. We now understand molecular mechanisms and why they work. Popular books and articles now challenge the advice ‘carbohydrates are good and fats are bad.’ Circa mid-19th century urinary ketones were identified in diabetics sealing their toxic label for the next 150 years. Despite work four decades ago showing ketones were highly functional metabolites, they are still misidentified as toxic byproducts of fat metabolism. The vilification of fat by regulatory and popular dogma perpetuates this myth. But the nutrition-metabolic landscape is improving dramatically.
    A growing number of researchers have contributed to what is now a critical mass of science that provides compelling clinical evidence that ketogenic diets uniquely benefit weight loss, pre-diabetes, and type-2 diabetes. In the last five years, basic scientists have discovered that b-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), the primary circulating ketone, is a potent signaling molecule that decreases inflammation and oxidative stress. BHB has been suggested to be a longevity metabolite, with strong support from recently published mouse studies showing decreased midlife mortality and extended longevity and healthspan. Although type-2 diabetes is often described as a chronic progressive disease, emerging evidence indicates that sustained nutritional ketosis can reverses the disease. There is growing interest in studying potential therapeutic effects of ketosis on cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. There are even reasons certain athletes may benefit from nutritional ketosis and ketone supplements ─ debunking the long-standing dogma that high carbohydrate intake is required to perform optimally.
    With the support of the well-established Ohio State Food Innovation Center, this conference will bring together the top experts in these fields to share what has been achieved and what remains to be done to advance this exciting field of scientific discovery.

    One thing that I don't like is that the survival curves for various therapies arent actually dramatically improved in comparison to control group. Its improved to 60days from 30days. The meaningful result should be many months from 30days

    If a rise in oxidative stress can decrease cancer cells then why not just use hydrogen peroxide therapies which can naturally lift oxygen levels without the use of ascorbic acid and can be self administered by the patient in the comfort of their home very inexpensively? I’m guessing it’s the ‘self administered’ and ‘very inexpensively’ part that keep that solution from being discussed.

      I'm guessing its because that would not be selective to cancer cells. Simply ingesting something that causes oxidative stress will cause oxidative stress to your whole body which is not generally a good thing and probably prohibitively bad at the doses you would need to fight cancer. Intravenous vitamin C delivers oxidative stress selectively to cancer cells which I think is one of the biggest reasons it is of so much interest. Because of this selectivity, it packs the same mechanism of action as a lot of chemotherapies (some chemo's work by oxidative stress) but without the side effects.

      Yay@@CollinVaille In low dosages it’s not harmful, actually helpful - e.g. using a nebulizer with a food grade 3% hydrogen peroxide isn’t toxic and would elevate oxygen levels which the cancers can’t tolerate- that science goes back to Nobel literature over a hundred years ago.

      @@rickstokes2239Interesting, I haven't read much on direct H2O2. Definitely, the part about it not being discussed because it's not expensive is very true lol.

    How does inactivating complex 1 of mitochondria affect cancer if they don't have functional mitochondria that produce energy (Thomas Seyfrieds theory)?

    Standard rodent chow looks to be ~ 23.9% protein (partial ingred, top to bottom Corn,Soybean,Beet (veg),Fish- & Pork further down) ... curious about Dr Seyfried's 1-2 Punch to cancer cell energy fermentation of limiting glucose and glutamine. Fasting hitting both ... exogenous ketones, hyperbaric oxygen, and fasting could be a potent combo for slowing /killing cancer cells

    • @Hveragerthi
      @Hveragerthi ปีที่แล้ว

      Limiting glucose and glutamine will not stop cancer as cancer cells can use glucose, fructose, ketones, lactate, fatty acids and various amino acids as fuel sources.
      These also do not address the cause of cancer, which in the majority of cases are viruses.
      Multiple studies have shown that ketones fuel cancer cells. In addition, ketones also promote metastases by activation of hyaluronidase and proteolytic enzymes.
      Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) does not stop cancer either, but actually promotes it as cancer cells are highly reliant on oxygen for survival and growth. Furthermore, HBOT promotes angiogenesis, which actually speeds the growth rate of cancers. This is why they are trying to develop angiogenesis inhibitors to slow cancer growth.
      Fasting does not stop cancer either and again can make things worse, especially if the patient already has cachexia.

    So does a cancer patient need a medical clinic for a hyperbaric oxygen treatment? I know there are non medical places that claim to provide this type of service.

      Ketosis is a form of fasting (from glucose) but perhaps talks had to be limited in scope. There may’ve been other talks at the conference emphasizing fasting but they’re all important to use together.
