I love how the Cars franchise goes from wholesome racecar story to international conspiracy espionage movie, then back to wholesome racing story.

I believe the reason for Doc being killed without explanation was because the actor passed away in between the release of Cars & the production of Cars 2.

As a tiny child, I didn't care for the random inclusion of a spy mission, them making Mater the main character and changing the entire plot,
It was a fun movie for my age at the time and I didn't care from a movie standpoint. It was just meant to be entertaining, which was more than enough for me at that age. That's all that mattered.
This movie is "fun bad"

Sad Fact: Paul Newman (the actor who plays Doc Hudson) passed away before they were making this movie, witch is why Doc Hudson isn’t in this movie or Cars 3
Well, Doc does technically appear in Cars 3, but only in flashbacks. I hear the filmmakers dug through archives where they recorded conversations with Paul in order to get some good lines. I think one line was even taken from one of the old video games.
2:40 For some reason a lot of people point this out, and without thinking about it too much it sure seems odd, but actually makes a lot of sense. What do cars use to go forward? Energy, which they get from fuel. What does fuel need to burn? Oxygen. So it's actually quite brilliant imo.
As far as I know, the filmmakers did a lot of research for these movies. There are tons of references that would likely easily fly over the heads of children, but adults might catch, especially adults with experience in the motor industry.
My Dad always tells me about the real world versions of some of the cars, races, and names in the films. These films actually helped me learn some stuff, and now I work with my Dad in his garage, putting that knowledge into practice.

Do you prefer if Rod was the spy of the movie instead of Mater?
Fun fact yet sad: Doc Hudson passed away in the second film because his voice actor Paul Newman died of lung cancer in 2008. Rest in peace to a lengendary voice actor that was a part of most of our childhoods.
To me this movie almost seemed out of place between cars 1 and 3, but it is such a great and underrated movie. Great reaction 😊

I watched this in the theaters. When my brother discovered cars this movie was playing from the TV on a loop pretty much every day. I had to listen / watch it so many times lol. So I remember every line and scene. Also the game that came out was fun, like mario kart with guns.
I don't care what people think, I will defend this movie with my life if necessary 😤

Not a bad movie, just different than what people were expecting from a Cars movie. I thought it was a lot of fun. Cool spy movie. But i understand the criticisms.
Actually at the end when McQueen asked why he didn't blow up, it wasn't the Volkswagen bus who changed the fuel, it was the army car
Also side note, although it isn’t very obvious and could’ve been done in a better way, the reason Finn McMissile puts on a respirator underwater is that he needs to supply Oxygen to the internal combustion engine in order for it to function. Unfortunately in the movie it just looks like he’s a sentient car and needs air to breathe (with lungs presumably) which contradicts the rest of the movie focusing on how the EMP Camera destroys their engines etc.

Pixar totally saw the reception of the first movie and probably heard people asking to see more of the world, which is probably why this movie took some risks with everything~
There is a show called "Mater's Tall Tales" where Mater tells... well, tall tales. The episodes are around 3-5 minutes long so it ain't much, but worth checking out indeed!

One note of explanation: The apparatus in the Japanese toilet that caused Mater so much anguish is based on the highly popular Washlet. It's a specialized toilet seat that provides warmth for comfort, as well as various functions for after doing one's business. Many Japanese people use them in their homes, and they've become quite commonplace in public facilities as well. Common features include bidet, washing and drying functions. Full body wash, though, is typically not built in. 😁
If you like more of the racing side than you will love the third one more than this. As a kid tho this was one of the coolest things ever made to my brain
No matter what others say about Cars 2...I love it so much BECAUSE its so unhinged, unrelated to the first and third movie xD

Personally, I don’t really understand the critisism towards this film. In my opinion it’s the best one out of the Cars movies.
The spy thing was just weird if the movie was focused more on the racing in the different locations and terrains it would be way better
The two other films feel like lover letters to the racing sport and are full of passion, so I really love them. To me, this one is just a mess of spy film tropes and makes very little sense for the world of cars. Mator makes for a great comedy relief character and he has good emotional intelligence, he's very lovable, but he's a terrible main character, because making him look smart means making everyone else look dumb, which is very tiring. The only thing I enjoy in this film are the action scenes and the music which are still good, but i just can't get behind the rest. I wonder why you like it more than the others, it makes little sense to me but perhaps you really love spy films.

Same here but I did feel like there should have been more racing. They were going to do a 24h endurance race in Paris, and show leyland turbos death, but cut it. Those scenes could really have helped the movie and more people like it

The racing scenes on this movie are godtier, I swear if they focused the story on a GP around the world this would be so much greater than it's current state.
The tonal shift was too much for people at the time. That's why they went back to old ways in Cars 3. There is spin off called: Planes. Its quite good, albeit repeating Cars 1 story line. Still a good under dog story. Planes 2: Fire & Rescue is quite something else. Its actually my 3rd fave film in Cars universe.

19:12 Just in case you didn't know, Seb, some Japanese toilets ARE actually this high-tech! They have bidets on which you can control the temperature and intensity of the water. They have white noise you can turn on so no one can hear you pooping, built-in air freshener/disinfectant, self-replacing automatic toilet seat covers, sometimes built-in seat warmers (it eliminates the annoyance and discomfort of having to sit on a cold toilet seat when you already feel cold or the weather is cold outside) and probably more things I've never heard of. I've also heard the soap to wash your hands with is really nice and smells good. I've never actually been to Japan or used a bathroom like this, but I DO know they exist and I want to try it.
Regardless, the restrooms and everything else in Japan, for that matter, are known for being really clean and well-maintained, by most people's standards, and even if I don't try one of these fancy bathrooms I'd just really love to go to Japan.
In comparison, one of the public bathrooms I had to use a couple of hours ago was DISGUSTINGLY filthy. There's always pee everywhere on the seat (it was a women's bathroom) there's toilet paper EVERYWHERE, sometimes there's blood smeared on the front of the toilet bowl and menstrual products half-poking out of the waste bin, which stinks enough to raise the dead, and in the stall next to the one I used (I hovered/didn't touch anything) there was a MASSIVE pile of poop (likely human) on the floor in front of the actual toilet. Why?!?!?! Are some people just a bunch of animals? At least most animals in the wild find a way to dispose of their waste, or least go in private/away from others and food/water sources. Why would an adult human take massive crap on the floor of a public bathroom?
I have funny memory when i was younger, my parents didn't want me see this movie just because guns and i was like "Come on! This is just about living vehicles, it can't be bad." they all so saw that first one but they still say like that. 😂

As someone who lives in Japan. The bathroom drama Matter has with the toilets here is 100% accurate. Lmao. My foreign friends who have used them had similar experiences.

I feel like you didn't really understand the main thing what this film is about. Lemon cars with Sir Axelrod as their leader own a big oil buissness, but their sales dropped because of alternative fuels. That's why Axelrod decided to develop another Alternative fuel, but make it explode when it's affected by electromagnetic pulse and create the race series-World Grand Prix in which the drivers use Allinoil, make them explode to make alternative fuels look bad so their sales skyrocket again.

"OK" fact:
Canonically, in terms of pure speed, Franchesco is the fastest car in the Cars franchise, but he doesn't have great skills as McQueen.
Not spoiler but kinda:
I know that many will say about a certain car, but this is refuted in that THAT speed record only refers to the piston cup records. Also, in this movie there was a deleted scene where it was going to be said that Francheso was running at 220 mph, faster than THAT car.
If you compare the cars that appear in the movies with their real versions from which they are inspired, again Franchesco would be the winner.
