I’d imagine his music is rather strenuous to prepare and perform, because of all the time changes you see in the music and stuff life that. But yes I agree
So glad! The first of Yoshimatsu`s six wonderful symphonies in a live version on YT - and the Maestro (69 years old) is in the audiance. But I recommend the absolute perfect studio version with the BBC Philharmonic, it is better balanced, especially the trombone, which is very special. 25:30 In the Adagio you hear a brief quotation of the Lamento from another sixth symphony - however not so complicated written as by Tchaikovsky himself (In his fifth Yoshimatsu quotes the beginning of another famous fifth. Guess). If you just now discovered this phantastic composer, you will have much pleasure with the other five symphonies and a lot of brilliant concertos. After that try Akutagawa!
I found myself listening to the entire piece so it must have been good since I have little tolerance for the mediocre. This was a well blended admixture of a variety of my favorite styles. Even the Tchaikovsky excerpt fit in perfectly.
If you have little tolerance for the mediocre, would you mind telling me what your favourite pieces are, from the mid to late 20th century? I don’t want to sound aggressive, I’m just listening to Rautavaara and Arvo Pärt a lot and would like some more inspiration :).
Music is a very personal thing, a compact between the composer and the listener, so it does not matter what I like, it is your life, your ears, and your taste. Enjoy whatever strikes your fancy. @@acid7333
I really wish there will be more live recordings of Yoshimatsu symphonies, they defo something worth celebrating.

I wish I could see one in person but contemporary composers, especially Japanese ones, are hardly played in the West
I NEED SYMPHONY 3 AND 5 PLEASE, YOSHIMATSU PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD!!!!!!
Love the tribute to Tchaikovsky.

31:51: Quotation of Beethoven's sixth symphony
Magnífica obra!!! Gracias maestro Yoshimatsu!!!
So beautiful...
This was such an amazing performance. I had a really great time listening.
Beautiful performance 🤍🙏
Une très belle découverte musicale !..
Maybe Yoshimastu actually work on his 7th symphony.
i hope we see it, though i understand he retired in 2015, so anything further would depend on his whims as a composer.
yoshimatsu is brilliant!!! thank you for the introduction. 🏹
Bravo what a music!

"I listened to all of it so it must be good"? In my opinion this is reasonably creative, pleasant music. Nothing earth shattering. Not bad, not good.
Actually, I dont like it. Its kitsch.

I hear Tarantella in this piece
