i would argue that it would at least serve as an example for future generations to follow, but if there's two things that the human race has consistently proven to be physically incapable of, they're 1) knowing jack shit about history, and 2) learning from mistakes
nonsolumarmis i find that unlikely. half the country is still supporting whatever he does, and the fact that he keeps getting away with everything means that people are going to start using the same techniques
Yeah. Learning from this period would require a people who value knowledge, fact and personal erudition as virtues instead of inconvenient things that get in the way of winning.
Serence Frostbite did you even watch any of this LWT episode or have a vague understanding of politics. He was impeached. He doesn’t have to be removed from power. It was unlikely that he was going to be removed in the first place. When the story was written it was under the impression that impeachment won’t, but should, happen. It did and we know how it turned out
@@FrostyWheats point is, he was impeached....then.......what? he's still in power, he's still screwing things up, still causing people headache. This "impeachment" thing is having as much effectiveness as parents telling their kid "You're not going to live under my roof anymore" and then just let the kid stay their anyway. As in, it does nothing. What's the big deal about something that does nothing?
Serence Frostbite because of the precedent it sets for future congress members. Because it shows that he did indeed do wrongdoing. Because it brings his wrongdoing into the public spotlight. Because in the future we’ll look back at the senators that voted against removal from office and recognize that it was the wrong thing to do. You have a very clear lack of understand of what impeachment is. Impressive
@@FrostyWheats it's also showing that "yes this guy did the wrong thing, we all acknowledge it, and the senators that voted against the removal from office were wrong......anyway we decided not to do anything about so future generation gonna have hindsights lol" Anyway my friend, in my country, when a government official is busted for a crime, they lose their position, get fined or jail time depends on the severity of the crime. Guess what? That also shows they did the wrong thing, brings it to the public, and future generations still gonna be able to look back and say "yeah that was the wrong thing to do" So yeah, I don't have any understanding about what impeachment is, because that's not a thing in my country, and so far from your reasoning, I still don't see why it's even a thing to begin with. Why not punish the wrongdoing now? Is American generations later just decide not to learn from this if you guys punish him now?

+dandeentremont I have to disagree on the latter one - I think the reaction to that joke came because they put them in the wrong order. The second one of the three jokes meant to show that the Trump Administrations always chooses the worst option available in every situation was clearly the funniest and should have been the closer. "- Soup or salad? - I'm gonna go with the N-word" That was clearly the funniest joke of the three and most unexpected as it broke the convention of the set-up by actually ignoring the options awailable. The audience predictably really enjoyed and laughed out loud at that one, and in comparison their more muted response to the last joke about Yoko Ono being the favorite Beatle might have made it seem controversial to you - but I don't think that's the case at all. If they had put the jokes in what I think almost anyone would agree to be the right order with the Yoko Ono-joke coming second and "Soup or salad?" as a closer I'm sure they would have had a standard build-up of laughter instead of the awkward comparative silence after the Yoko Ono-joke. I'm really surprised they did that - I really thought professional comics wouldn't make a mistake like that.

It's now Jun 1st 2020 and a month ago seemed like the golden years. The country is burning because yet another person of color was killed by bad police officers for no reason. Our POS whiny little coward baby 'president' is hiding in a bunker in the basement of the White House because he is fundamentally incapable of showing any empathy or of leading the country. Trump could not lead a pack of dogs to a pile of meat on the floor! But honestly I'd rather see him locked in a hole somewhere without access to twitter, phones or media people. Cut off his ability to communicate. And put a giant TV right outside of his cell that ran replays of him losing the election and being criticized by the media 24/7 at full volume. Run footage of people around the world dancing in the street celebrating his loss. “What would a Trump impeachment look like?”
Well then that aged well
Except for the part that turns out, nothing happened, the guy got impeached and then still in power
Impressive
@@FrostyWheats it's also showing that "yes this guy did the wrong thing, we all acknowledge it, and the senators that voted against the removal from office were wrong......anyway we decided not to do anything about so future generation gonna have hindsights lol"
Anyway my friend, in my country, when a government official is busted for a crime, they lose their position, get fined or jail time depends on the severity of the crime. Guess what? That also shows they did the wrong thing, brings it to the public, and future generations still gonna be able to look back and say "yeah that was the wrong thing to do"
So yeah, I don't have any understanding about what impeachment is, because that's not a thing in my country, and so far from your reasoning, I still don't see why it's even a thing to begin with. Why not punish the wrongdoing now? Is American generations later just decide not to learn from this if you guys punish him now?

Imagine that you live in a country where this narcissistic sociopathic lunatic is in charge, and where a significant portion of the population think he's the best thing that's ever happened to us.
Imagine that for me... but only a little. I would hate to be the cause of your sudden onset of depression or even suicide.
@@Mythraen I can feel your Agony, Pain and Suffering, just from that comment.
May God Save America or for once, God actually bless America
Yeah... Migrating to Canada is looking better and better (after quarantine, of course).
Christ this feels like it was a century ago.
we live in an era where comedians are sources of truthful informations and politicians are a laughing stock
Cancer Music because these comedians are actually hardworking investigative journalists with a solid background in research and genuine ethical traits. Maintaining their truthful and transparent image is mostly a result of them being uninterested in becoming "authoritative" figures like most if not all corporate media pundits today.
Cancer Music we are doomed if anyone seriously thinks John Oliver is an honest journalist
@just abumer. No, he's a comedian but he is more truthful than those very poor excuses for "journalists" that Fox News puts on the air.
I don't know if the comedians themselves are, but I'm sure that enough of their writing teams have the relevant training and degrees.
Cancer Music Wow, you are the epitome of everything wrong with liberal culture
That burger story blew my mind. Asking for mustard is a completely normal thing to ask and Fox News treated it like he asked for gold leaves!
And here it is almost one year later and teflon don is still getting away with the most reprehensible behavior!
Sure satan, and I'm the Queen of Sheba.
2 years, and still ongoing...
January 23rd 2019 and still a problem
Nearly two years later now
I feel sorry for you Americans. I'm Canadian and I still feel the pain.
at 6'8, James Comey should've told Trump to meet him 1 on 1 on the basketball court lmao dunking in the name of justice
Sal Ornelas😂😂😂😂
Drumpf would have cried that Comey cheated and that the game was against him. It was rigged.
Trump invited him to play bball but Comey thought that was super inappropriate.
Afaf Benhara, No Obama did that.
Trump thinks exercising is bad for you.
no way a man like Comey, a fuckin rise to the top FBI Director, will let a millionaire draft dodging reality star get off this easy.
An accounting is coming for Trump and all his bs.
The 2 most controversial jokes, according audience groans:
-Making light of Roger Ailes' death.
-Implying Yoko was a Beatle.
+dandeentremont
I have to disagree on the latter one - I think the reaction to that joke came because they put them in the wrong order.
The second one of the three jokes meant to show that the Trump Administrations always chooses the worst option available in every situation was clearly the funniest and should have been the closer.
"- Soup or salad?
- I'm gonna go with the N-word"
That was clearly the funniest joke of the three and most unexpected as it broke the convention of the set-up by actually ignoring the options awailable.
Yoko is my favorite beatle
Watching this in August 2023, it all seems so quaint.
Tru dat.
Comey-comey-comey-comey-chameleon!
why is this not top comment
no clue man
You come and go, you come and go...
needs one more "comey"
This was my first thought hearing the guy say chameleon. I was beat by a few hours. Feels bad man
"Do you honestly remember how this week began?"
That is exactly what the past 13 months have felt like

Jonh oliver is a very necessary key to my mental health since November. I don't know what to do when the show breaks for summer 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Watch past shows on youtube. That's how I maintain my sanity. I need Last Week Tonight to tamp down the anxiety one feels with such chaos in the world.
As a Filipino, he's been a necessary key to my mental health since May of last year
newtellabits watch Bill Maher and Seth Meyer
Amy Jones Maher is a racist islamaphobe, I wouldn't recommend his point of view.
Yeah much better to listen to someone who will brush the bombings in cities like Manchester under the rug to be PC. *sarcastic*
I just keep re-watching these months later and re-surprise myself at the accuracy of the downfall of american politics captured in real time on Johns show.
The most amazing thing about Stupid Watergate is that we can't call it Pissgate because THAT NAME IS ALREADY TAKEN.
Im so glad this is trending. Everyone should watch this
A Sall
It's Trending in Germany as well. It's not as important for us as it is for you. But it's still important.
And a must see for die hard LWT Fans like me ^^
Nice to know the world doesn't see all of us as Trump Disciples..
A Sall TH-cam doesn't use algorithms for trending videos anymore. They have a panel that decides what goes up and what place. Same with Netflix, Facebook, Apple music ect. Don't be so gullible.
A Sall all of John Oliver's videos have at on point been trending
Michael Royal But its still number 2 on the trending category of youtube. Even if they put it there its still there and im glad it is. Right at the top for everyone to see
I dont understand why US politicians even talk about their religion. Religion and politics shouldnt mix, look at all the problems that different religions have caused around the world.
xxxxmimi name a senator that isn't a self proclaimed christian. The vast majority of the country is christian, they can't get elected without saying it
Rice Waster Aleks ...a senator who isn't a self-proclaimed Christian? Bernie Sanders, for one.
Shannon DeYong Independent politicians are rising. Non religious politicians are rising. But for the vast majority of people that actually vote they have to hear their politicians are Christian or they don't get elected. It is declining. That is the good news. But it still happens and will for the foreseeable future.
Because pandering to the conservative Christian voting block is lucrative in securing votes, that's why.
grandmasterjoshh in North Korea religion *is* the current political system, or better the other way around
Didn't you pay attention in school? North Korea is a totalitarian dictatorship
And human dignity and such things are logical. They don't need a religion to be justified, and nobody wants the shit that comes along with having a religion in politics
Just look at pretty much anything that goes wrong in this world, you will find many who will justify it with religion and then no reasoning is applied
August 14, 2021: This is STILL one of the best Oliver shows. Amazingly funny.
Along with a million other things we'll always be asking..... how was this not the end of everything for Trump?
@trollnerd *cough cough* Mississippi *cough cough*
The "Grab them by the pussy" audio should have killed his chances but what happened? Comey went public with the FBI's investigation into Trump.
No, I'm wrong, that one remained private until the election was over, it was the FBI's investigation into Clinton's emails that went public. Which concluded mere days later with "Nope, nothing illegal. just wrong".
I'm still waiting for the end....
here we are in 2023 and still waiting. hopeful that finally jack smith is our hero
I will literally be crying in jubilation and happiness if Trump is impeached and disgraced. Please God, let it happen!!!
XD True
Davin Deptuck
no u dont want that as much as we all hate trump pence isn't any better he's a conservative christian nut job if we could impeach both of them sure but one's just as bad as the other
unfortunately god aint gonna do shit. might as well pray to the Easter bunny or tooth fairy
You might just be in luck, matey.
I was just thinking how I'd have to stifle my cheers, I live in Trumpland. 😣
Yes, the SUPER fancy and elite Dijon mustard. It’s so exclusive and expensive, I can buy an entire bottle of it at my local grocery store in my midwestern town of less than 1000 people. God, I miss Obama.
Remember when Obama has a marine hold up an umbrella for him? Oh the horror!!
You mean you want GOOD MUSTARD? How DARE you you ELITIST ASSHOLE
I love your exuberance and glee. The ability to be excited and silly about serious issues
Common John you're missing the point of this presidency. It's by far the best twilight zone episode.
Ummmmmm.... I'd hate to break it you but erm, well, we are unfortunately not in some twilight zone.
I think.
Please let me be wrong.
It’s now called Black Mirror.
to be fair he is bringing attention to a lot of things that would probably be ignored... I bet most people couldn't name 1 fbi agent let alone 3... also the concept of fisa courts, oversight committees, the NRA having people by the balls... like he may not be draining the swamp but he's good at getting people to watch a dumb reality show (either ironically or not)... and at least it's looking more like cops than jersey shore...
Noone ever told me that I entered the Twilight Zone...I demand a narrator!
Dear Last Week Tonight team,
could you please make a full lenght bit about the TSA, that John Oliver rushed through last night?
I am really interested in what he has to say.
Thank you =)
Mopunkscene I agree, I'd love to hear more on it.
Mopunkscene and shell companies
Mopunkscene rouselou
John Oliver is incredible! Focused and truthful! Love you John
Sometimes I like to come back to video to reminisce over how simple things used to be
