You would be hard pressed to find another board immortalized with these legendary master's names plaqued on it. This thing is priceless to chess historians!
@strangebrew420 certainly it would probably lose value to some auctioneers, but the value isn't in the quality of the piece. It is inherent to this one piece because of the irreplaceable history. To the right buyer it is truly priceless. I would rather have that piece than the finest Staunton chess set personally.
I would buy this in a heartbeat if I had the money. I am starstruck by the the names of the chess players on that table. Seeing Capablanca and Lasker's name alone on this made my stomach tighten! Holy moly.
Harry Nelson. Pillsbury played on the table also. That table would be the highlight of any chess collectors collection. Just needs to be restored and sold at Christie’s and they would get $20,000 for that table
As far as I could tell, the table has the names of the first THREE official WORLD Champions PLUS Maroczy, Pillsbury, Marshall, Torre, Zukertort and E. Lasker. If it's true that the plaque means that these masters played on that board, that's an INCREDIBLE piece of chess history.
@@hd-xc2lz yes. The chess museum and hall of fame (I forget the actual name) is currently in St. Louis (it's moved around over the years) across the street from the St. Louis Chess Club.
Would be fun to take the table, and set it up in a popular public place in New Orleans, and play games…give people a chance to play at the same table as those great masters.
The appraiser doesn't seem to know a lot about chess. There are many wealthy chess players that would pay far, far more for that table than what the appraiser valued it at. The list of chess Grandmasters who played on that table reads like the gods of Chess!
"Wealthy chess player" is something of a paradox ... maybe in Europe, but here in the USA many of our finest chess players die of exposure every winter ...
@strangebrew420 it's virtually irrelevant to chess hostorians. When you read these names off to someone like myself you will why it gave me chills and why I wish to track it down. I'm sure by now it's found its way to someone who can appreciate this rarity.
Having been to Several British Antique Road shows in the past and going to the one that is going to be Broadcast from Coventry city on September 8th I'm amazed by the shear difference between the British and the American shows

Even if it has water damage from a hurricane?

Amazing, isn't it? Capa and Lasker alone are two of the greatest players of all time.
@ Hiram Bodon and AOB... Is there a chess museum(s?) anywhere in the world?
@@hd-xc2lz yes. The chess museum and hall of fame (I forget the actual name) is currently in St. Louis (it's moved around over the years) across the street from the St. Louis Chess Club.
@@hirambodon7086 Wow, thank you! Was in St Louis just a few years back, sooo wish I'd known. Will check it out online to see extent of collection.
Goofey is on there too
Talk about being LUCKY. She had no idea what she had on her hands.

Russ Crawford sounds cold Russ!
The water damage impacted it for sure

I see that the video was published 5 years ago. I wonder where the table is now?

Care to venture a specific?
No way that estimate isn’t low
If she showed this thing to Rex Sinquefield she could ask anything she wanted. Be a shame if it didn't stay in New Orleans, though.
Blindfolded
the flood was actually caused by her moms cooder when she saw her stepdads chess prowess
Appraisal quite amateurish, 3-5k would be a steal. Should be worth at least 7-8k
What are you saying my good sir?
Even though it was damaged in a flood?
So did it go to auction?? I imagine, in the right auction, there are some wealthy “chess nuts” willing to pay several times more than the estimate?
He was a human born player? Wtf did that mean?
Earth-based.
For those of us who can hear it meant he was born in Cuba.
