Congrats Ben! Great to see how much of a succes your design has become. My ‘Ben-blue’ Banter was one of my most carried knives this year. Excellent slicer, practical blade shape, you hardly notice it in the pocket and it looks friendly enough to use amongst non knife people. Very fun knife to fidget with as well. My favorite knife purchase of 2020 is my Guardian Tactical GTX-025 OTF (Two-Tone) with Elmax Steel. The action is so much smoother than my Microtech UTX-85.
I regretted for so long after watching this episode and bought the tiny crkt cleaver, but now I'm using it for most of my small processing tasks outdoors and indoors......kind of addicting.
I don't really buy knives anymore, but my Civivi Elementum has become my favorite knife in my small collection. I had to get it in Ben Blue, which was really rare earlier this year, so it took like 3 months to get. It's my first flipper and it's so much fun to fidget with. So I’ve just recently gotten into knives and collecting. I have a couple of inexpensive knives that I’ve purchased because I liked the look of them. Few questions: 1. How did some of you collectors go about starting your collection and what did you look for? 2. How have you notice your collecting/buying habits changing over time? 3. Should I be focused on steel quality and type? For example, I just purchased a fixed blade Chinese cheapie and it says 440 stainless...what does that even mean? Good? average? I have no idea, just liked the look. 4. I find that with other things, you get what you pay for. Is this generally true with knives as well? Any help would be appreciated!
Hey bud, I don’t have a lot of money to spend on knifes but I sure do have a small collection so I’ll help you out. 1. Honestly you should just buy any type of knifes starting out and then feel it out! (At least that’s what I did) 2. I’ve realized I can’t really buy knifes myself so I’ve just been getting them for my bday and Christmas. 3.440c is the most budget steel you can get, what I mean is I wouldn’t even say it’s worth 10 bucks. It’s a very soft steel which is not good for hard work. I would stay away from that and go to D2 steel. Way better in my opinion and if you want to go into more expensive steels then that’s completely up to you. I would never pay 25 dollars for 8cr13mov except spyderco and any big brands. Any cheap knifes don’t do it. 4. That is so true! If you spend 10 bucks on a knife except it to break in a few days or so. Buying a more expensive knife like in the hundreds range, it should last you 5 plus years or a lifetime. If you need anymore help, add me on Instagram! @Logans-knife-edc I started collecting last November so I hope this helped.
1: I started 35 years ago with crap cheap fake swiss army knives. A real Victorinox Swiss army knife (SAK) is a great way to start I have 3, my Swisschamp I have had on my belt for 23 years and still perfect and it really gets used a lot and quite hard aswell. But any real SAK is a great way to start. (also I had the mandatory Rambo survival knife that costs 15 dollars(don't do that please) Just see what you like and try to get a real brand, a really nice knife that is very cheap in the States is a Kershaw Chill, great knife, obviously not the best steel 8Cr13Mov) but you won't get D2 or so under 50 dollars. There is nothing wrong with budget steel, you just have to sharpen it more often (but is very easy to sharpen, very important when starting out, you don't want to start learning how to sharpen knives with M4 steel as it is very difficult to sharpen compared to D2 etc) I learned sharpening on $10 Opinels and SAK's and I ruined that Opinel, but better than ruining a $200 knife to learn how to sharpen. 2: Yes I definitely have phases in my purchases. Sometimes I buy a couple of fixed blades or I want a knife with a certain steel type. Then I go back to let's say the SAK's. Recently I wanted a really nice traditional knife (open with 2 hands) Opinel, Boker etc have knives for any budget. 3: Steel is a different thing and is mostly price dependent. 440C is not a super steel, but when the heat treatment is good like with Buck ( Buck 110 i.e.) you have a great blade. The really cheap, not well known brands are hit and miss when it comes to the quality with ANY steel type. (btw 440C was the best you could get in the 80's and I have a lot of them from that time and it does not mean it is bad all the time, like I said get a well known brand and you usually will have a decent blade.) 4: The problem with most items (be it cars , knives, guitars etc) is there is something called ''The Law of Diminishing Returns'' meaning you pay a lot more for a little bit more quality. I.e A Ferrari is a great Supercar at let's say $250.000, but a Bugatti Veyron is a $1.000.000 (prices aren't exact it is an example 😀) The Bugatti is not a lot better than the Ferrari but you pay a lot more to get that top speed it has. Same with knives, a Buck 110 with 440C is a great knife at around $60 , but to get a steel type that lasts a very long time before you have to sharpen it M4, 20CV, S35VN, you will pay over $140. (again prices are rough examples) IMO with knives that point is around $130 (opinions vary) so from there on you pay a lot more for a little bit extra quality. So yes you do get what you pay for, but at a certain point you get a smaller quality jump than from $30 to $70. Phew, this my longest comment ever. hope it helps.

Just picked up the left handed sebenza in black micarta. I guess it’s the last one because they are now out of stock! It is my favorite knife out of the 25-30 I own! My overall favorite knife of the year is the 20cv griptilian in a sheepsfoot blade.

My CEO is my fave because it's the only actual 2020 model I got this year. It's on me 95% of the time as I'll carry one or more knives with my CEO. All about the Knife Life.
I just ordered the crkt d2 minimalist. I used to have one gave it to a friend ...the 5 cr15 model but seeing the d2 I said just take my money I need that. Good job selling another.
My 2 favorites: the WE Black Void Opus (all black one) by Justin Lundquist, and the MKM Flame by Michael Zieba (one with plain Ti scales, like original Zieba MS3).
Covid time, ran into knives on youtube in Feb 2020 and started learning more about knives. Now I have a lot of knives. I purchased the Lucha in 2020 as a first balisong! I live in CA so it stays in the tool chest. :( Last new knives for 2020 is the Spyderco Pm2 Tanto (satin & dlc)!
ayy i bought the balisong :) kershaw landed in a spot where the market was weak. i would love to see another blade shape (cleaver!) or a trainer from them.
To correct you on the Flash AT-XR the "lock" for the closed position is the safety to make sure the springs dont fire accidently, and when it is in open position it automatically locks in place to prevent accidentally closing it. As you should know just from opening and closing the blade.. To unlock it and close it, you pull down on both sides of the blade lock. 9:05 Edit: timestamps for anyone interested in jumping straight to the flash
#1 selling knife, my guess would be the Kershaw Lucha because apparently people go nuts over it. Never handled one, but I'm guessing that might be the one. I'd be happy to be wrong, though.
Im pretty new to knives and i've gotta say i get alot of good info from your vids. That said, i would love for a short pros and cons of steel types if you could include it. Thanks again for the great content :)
I get they base if off sales. However, I wish they would take into consideration availability. I'm sure if they had enough stock of something like the protech malibu. It would be on the top.
I bought my boker kalashnikov and a kizer sheepdog mini this year and one or the other is always in my pocket but, I also bought a gerber jukebox that just looks really cool
I nearly bought the Kershaw Lucha because I always wanted a butterfly type knife and a quality one was never very affordable. The Bears didn't seem to get good reviews so it was between the Lucha and the Bradley Kimura. I'm sure I'll end up getting one or the other eventually during a sale.
I just got my first Kubey flipper in D2 steel with black blade and its one sweet knife for just over 30 bucks. So smooth it makes expensive knives look like you are paying way too much money. This is the first Kubey I've bought and its an awesome surprise, I got it because it caught my eye on Amazon. Its not an assisted just so damn smooth it takes a light touch to open all the way and be ready for action. Link to see this knife; you may want one too.
So bizarre right when you mentioned the civivi... which I haven’t even herd of I went on Amazon to shop for an auto knife and right there I was checking out the elementum t the exact time that u mentioned it... really strange coincidence... cool lookin knife
Nice! I was eyeing the Fact, but ended up getting a 940-1 as my first Benchmade instead. Picked up the WE Syncro as a sort of Fact alternative instead.
Spyderco para 3 and benchmade bugout and bailout my top three most carried oh and I just the got the benchmade Osborne 940-2 g10 with green spacers that I absolutely love
I finally broke down and bought my first “expensive “ knife in October, the cf elite benchmade bugout I babied it since day one and 2 days ago one of the omega springs broke . It didn’t even last 3 months , sending it in to benchmade but still genuinely disappointed , going to carry the CRKT tuna with died black scale in the meantime
Just for your information. I've seen your big seller knife around. The cleaver design fixed blade. It was being used for chopping up a white powder. That is probably why they were so popular in 2020. LOL merry Christmas guys.

So you want to be a Marine?
My goal is to be a paratrooper in the army
You'll never be a Marine.
Stolen Valor is way out of hand.
I bought a Lucha for myself, don't tell the wife, and everyones just happy
To correct you on the Flash AT-XR the "lock" for the closed position is the safety to make sure the springs dont fire accidently, and when it is in open position it automatically locks in place to prevent accidentally closing it. As you should know just from opening and closing the blade.. To unlock it and close it, you pull down on both sides of the blade lock.

Edit: timestamps for anyone interested in jumping straight to the flash
That Kershaw is enticing at 10.2 in. Finally a budget Bali at the standard length with a nice looking blade.
get that dessert warrior back in stock plz! I had it signed up for email AND text alerts and didn't hear a peep about that recent drop :(
#1 selling knife, my guess would be the Kershaw Lucha because apparently people go nuts over it.
Never handled one, but I'm guessing that might be the one. I'd be happy to be wrong, though.
i love blade hqs youtube channel omg
I’ve got the Bowie version of the crkt minimalist and I love it as a little neck knife just have to sharpen it every few times I use it
Im pretty new to knives and i've gotta say i get alot of good info from your vids. That said, i would love for a short pros and cons of steel types if you could include it. Thanks again for the great content :)
No joke Lucha was the #1 in my head 🤯
Thanks for a great year of content this year guys. It was crazy but y’all made it a bit more normal.
I get they base if off sales. However, I wish they would take into consideration availability. I'm sure if they had enough stock of something like the protech malibu. It would be on the top.
Zac, your Lucha Theory is right on, I’ve gotten so close to pulling that trigger several times. 🤙
Just got my favorite EDC knife for Christmas, the SOG Pentagon XR!!! Awesome knife!! Light for the size!
Zac inspired me to try and save up for the We Ferrum Forge Minax.
Use this comment as a petition for us to get a video of Zac telling us about the hundreds of strange and cool jobs that has had
He started his own TH-cam channel a few weeks back!! Check it out!!

Just found this Gem of Zac in college
I just got my first Kubey flipper in D2 steel with black blade and its one sweet knife for just over 30 bucks. So smooth it makes expensive knives look like you are paying way too much money. This is the first Kubey I've bought and its an awesome surprise, I got it because it caught my eye on Amazon. Its not an assisted just so damn smooth it takes a light touch to open all the way and be ready for action. Link to see this knife; you may want one too.
just got my mini presidio 2 shot show edition, absolutely love it but still rock the ontario rat 1 as my go to!
That CRKT knife looks like an ultra hipster cheese knife.
Handle looks way to uncomfortable like what would you use it for besides throwing it in your knife box
@@Mr.Bonez2Go slicing Jerky lol
So bizarre right when you mentioned the civivi... which I haven’t even herd of I went on Amazon to shop for an auto knife and right there I was checking out the elementum t the exact time that u mentioned it... really strange coincidence... cool lookin knife
You guys made 2020 better
Excellent knives. I’m surprised that the Civivi Durus didn’t make the list of most popular knives of 2020
My top 3 wishlist knives to get would be a bugout, a recon 035, and a paragon warlock.
This year got a Benchmade Fact and it has performed way above expectation--so good.
Nice! I was eyeing the Fact, but ended up getting a 940-1 as my first Benchmade instead. Picked up the WE Syncro as a sort of Fact alternative instead.
Long time lurker and I just placed my first order through you guys! Can't wait! I need the donut next!
Please don’t buy the donut knife
The storm vector is amazing, I have been waiting all year for that beast
I would be interested in some of the other fixed blades, especially cause the CRKT Minimalist format is around for years...
I had looked at the bugout but decided against.
Spyderco para3, you won’t be disappointed. Go ahead and get the G-10 version. You will love it
My favorite is the sog terminus xr
So far my favorite is my Ti Viper Belone my wife got me for our wedding. Runner up is my new Ace Biblio
Just for your information. I've seen your big seller knife around. The cleaver design fixed blade. It was being used for chopping up a white powder. That is probably why they were so popular in 2020. LOL merry Christmas guys.
CJRB Ria. It just speaks to me. It is figety and I carry it everywhere. I also like Sandvik steels.
how i remember to spell Dessert v desert:
Dessert is so good you want two helpings...hence two SS's in Dessert
Ru the real huck??
Ru the real huck??
Kershaw lucha still in the wish list but I have to get that storm vector! Great video guys!
Thank you very much for the timestamps.
Nice last second save with ROOT BEER🍺 Kurt 👌.
