Never thought much of her, and now I think even less of her. The sexism stuff is funny because the only reason she ever achieved fame was due to her being a woman.
She’s a beautiful, wonderful person, and anyone who doesn’t think so is the opposite. And that’s the truth. Funny, a lot of people who claim not to like her still took the time to come to this video. Secret lovers, ha ha!
They were basically a cover band, and most of their hits including "I love rock n roll" were covers. Her "tough chick" gimmick didn't impress me at all.
Have to say more people know who she is than the entire band of the scorpions... They may be better but I don't know because I haven't heard their music. Hers is all over the radio still
@@spark556 I'm saying I'm an old man who listens to that genre and have never once heard their songs that I know of. Probably have over the years and didn't know it. Have never heard "That was the scorpions with their new hit ___." on any station, ever. I have however heard of Jett. I'm going to check them out now. Clearly you're passionate and I'm the one missing out. Not trying to bash them or build her up
I’ve always respected her as one of the pioneer rock girls who also had to be put up with god knows what during that era despite having mediocre music. But never knew she was this difficult until now.
Joan Jett is iconic for being a pioneer as a woman in rock. If she were male, no one would pay this much attention to her. Despite the prejudice against females in rock, being a successful female rocker gives someone special notoriety.
I wasn't aware that Rolling Stone included Joan Jett in top 100 guitarists. That is insane. The Nuge is correct, she doesn't belong on that list, like wtf
The bands talked about in this video I've all seen in concert. They go in this order: Rush, Scorpions, Ted Nugent, Joan Jett. Joan Jett was solid in concert, but not to the level of the other three. Rush were masters of their instruments. Scorpions were perfect in concert. They were note for note like the albums. Ted Nugent put on a great show especially with the Damn Yankees. Joan Jett is the most pop out of the four, and the least rock, but some of her songs are catchy and it was still a good show. Glad I saw all four, but if I had to skip one, it would be Joan Jett by a wide margin.
I don’t dislike Joan Jett, but don’t understand why she is so highly positioned in greatest guitar player lists of all time when there are clear omissions like Ted Nugent, Wes Montgomery, Robin Trower, etc…all due respect.
No one wants to admit to liking Ted Nugent or putting him in any top list of any sort in the year 2024+. Especially any major publication. Can you blame them? The guy effed children for goodness sake. And he himself, is overrated. Last thing we need to do is continue to feed that ego.
Joan Jett deserves respect. It’s tough being a woman in rock ‘n’ roll. Who cares about who should be on the list for some magazines’ list of the top 100 guitarists?
Whenever someone says that Joan Jett blames everything on sexism, I instantly know that they weren’t listening, because that’s the only way they could get it all wrong.
@@Bls-of1ld Joan would never deny that women have it good in America, while also acknowledging there are still improvements to be made as there is with all of humanity. She’s very patriotic. She’s not, however, a complainer. She simply responds to interviewers questions about moments in her life - many of which have been hard. That’s to make the interview interesting. In general, she isn’t one to complain or start trouble, which is why she keeps to herself most of the time on social media, etc.
@@mandomendez5618 you say that like you’ve actually listened to their music! Have you listened to any of their original originals, or have you only heard the couple of covers on the radio? If the answer is the latter, you are in no position to judge. But regardless of what the answer may be, everyone has different tastes. Her music may not be to your taste, that’s just your opinion. The fact that the band has over 120 original songs to their credit speaks to the talent that they have. And that’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.
If you had told me Aerosmith didn't give them a soundcheck I would believe it without a thought cause Steven Tyler did that regularly...including to RUSH! You wanna tell me Rush was mean to an opening act and I sooner believe an elephant could fly. Besides, isn't Jett's entire career just cover tunes? Why is Lita Ford perpetually in Jett's shadow?
You have to realize that in this case, it was a bit of an unusual situation for Rush. Name me another time that they ever had a band of all teenage girls opening for them? That makes the difference. Joan is definitely not lying about this, but I think that it was misunderstood by her and the rest of the band, because rush was just being boys teasing girls. But being teenage girls, they took it to heart when they shouldn’t have. As for Joan Jett entire career being cover tunes, that is incorrect. Her band has written over 120 original songs. Cover bands do not have original songs, or if they do, it’s just few and far in between, unlike in this case. Whenever anyone says that Joan Jett only does cover songs, I know that they haven’t bothered to listen to her beyond the four or five hits that come on the radio!
Funny u mention Steven Tyler. There's a story about Joan answering a knock on her dressing room door, only to see a butt-naked Steve Tyler. He said to her: "I hate myself for loving you". She slammed the door on him but that's was her inspiration for the song she later wrote with Desmond Child. Awesome!
@@kevincampbell9526 It would be cool if that were true, but what really happened was that that hit song had already been released, and that’s what inspired Steven to use the line on her. When they were on tour together, it was 1989 1990 something like that. And hate myself for loving you was released in 1988. What inspired that song was Joan came to songwriter Desmond child, with a riff and a song idea already, called “hate myself because I can’t get laid“. Ironically, when she had the chance to get laid by Steven Tyler, she turned him down lol. But it was the desire to get laid that inspired this song. Go figure!
@@storybellzInteresting story! I'm glad I bumped into you. I've always found "I Hate Myself for Loving You" to be a poorly written song. It jumps into the prechorus without a proper transition from the verse. I'm actually really surprised Desmond Child signed off on that song without tweaking it a bit first.
I love me sum Joan jett❤❤ met her in 91 a rock auction in Atlanta Ga. Saw her at Six Flags ATL , back in the day the 80s. She leaped and was air borne off of a giant speaker playing the guitar , of course she was in her early 20s ❤❤
If someone can point out that Rush had issues touring with any other band besides the Runaways, I would like to hear about it. It would be news to me. Frankly, I've always liked Joan. The chip on her shoulder is part of her persona. Too bad she feels like she needs to throw others under the bus to maintain that image.
What other band besides the runaways did Rush tour with that was comprised of all teenage girls though? Because that has a lot to do with it. Teenage girls are apt to take teasing seriously. I think Rush was just having fun, goofing around, teasing them the way boys do. And of course, being teenage girls, they took it to heart.
@@olganesterowicz2112 I think, as I said that Joan is telling the truth, but that the runways were the only teenage girl band they ever shared a bill with, so that makes the difference. I don’t think they were trying to be rude, but I do think they were being boys, teasing girls, the way boys do.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I've always liked female musicians. I'm sure there are a lot of both men and women who agree with me. I guess this makes me the third comment, if you're counting
❤ Well I'm now commenting and I adore Joan Jett!¡! Joan is Iconic if anyone wants to admit it or not. She's a complete badass, driven, was in a band but was able to go solo "which in my opinion," says a whole lot about her talent, her voice, the way she plays that guitar, she can entertain and entire audience again solo, so basically she holds her own. That's ICONIC all the way around... ♥
It depends on the style of music they are playing. Frankly, I am not impressed with women as rock musicians, period. The men are just better at it. I don't mean that women don't have talent but men just seem to be better at rock -type instrumental work. I think they have a better musical ear for it than women.
Sure, that’s why she has several songs that she’s written, solo, including “wait for me”,“fetish”, “don’t abuse me”, “turn it around” and others! I bet you’ve never even listened to those. No wonder you made such a foolish comment!
Her songs were poorly written, and two of her biggest hits (I Love Rock & Roll and Crimson and Clover) were covers. Plus, she's a RHYTHM guitarist, not a lead guitarist. That should immediately disqualify someone from the "Best 100 Guitarists" lists. Strumming in the background won't cut it.
@@markcheetah4960 have you ever listened to “turn it around”, “don’t abuse me“, “wait for me“, “ Fetish”, etc.? Joan wrote all of these on her own, solo, and I don’t think they are poorly written. Sure, they’re not Joni Mitchell level lyrics, but they’re still good.
The way she is is a very sensitive, shy, kind person, generally speaking. If this video is giving you any other impression than that, then you’ve got the wrong impression.
Everyone, please be aware that Joan’s feelings about Rush have changed back-and-forth over the years, influenced by her relationship with Cherie Currie. Cherie is the one that really doesn’t like them, and Joan sort of goes along with her on the matter, as Joan was always very protective of Cherie in the band. But sometimes, she’s more objective about it. Joan has said about them “ Rush were standing to the side of the stage, and I could see them laughing at us. And if I were rush, I wouldn’t be laughing at us.” But then, she was fair and said that she doesn’t believe it was the actual members of Rush who sabotaged their sound check and were throwing paper on the stage. Cherie is the one that claims Rush threw papers on the stage To try and make her fall, while Joan remembers it as possibly being the road crew who did that, and she remembers it was the road crew that messed up theirsound check, not rush themselves. But Cherie aside, Joan’s only real beef with rush was that rush laughed at them while they were on stage. And I believe her, because Getty Lee went on record as saying they weren’t good, and that they weren’t worth watching. So anybody who talks like that, would not be above laughing at a bunch of teenage girls. For what it’s worth though, I don’t think rush was trying to be mean - I just think they were teasing the girls, the way boys do. And being teenage girls, they just took it to heart. But I don’t think it was meant to be taken as seriously as they took it. And for everyone who says that Joan is lying about Rush laughing at them because rush was never rude to any other band, consider the fact that no other band that Rush performed with was comprised of all teenage girls! That makes a difference. Also, Joan did not pee on their equipment. That scene was added into the runaways movie for dramatic effect. It was the script writers idea, and Joan had nothing to do with it. Joan says that it never happened, and believe me, if it had, rush, would’ve said so! As for her remarks about Ted Nugent, they came as the result of her being put on the spot by an interviewer who framed the question in a way to get a rise out of her. She didn’t just go around talking trash about Ted Nugent. That being said, he did go around speaking about her in a way that could definitely be taken as insulting, even though I know he says he didn’t mean it that way. I actually believe that deep down, he likes Joan, but he has a chip on his shoulder over her inclusion in a magazine list on principal, and expresses that in a way that could definitely hurt feelings, and therefore that gives her a chip on her shoulder about him. She was not the initiator of this. Regarding the scorpions, she said what she said about that band again, because the interviewer specifically asked. She doesn’t just go around, complaining about her past. But if an interviewer asks her, what are some of her worst memories, like a good interviewee, she will provide answers if she feels she can. And that was just her honest answer, that opening for the scorpions was one of the most horrible memories she has in her career. Then she went onto explain why and how. But yeah, again, she wasn’t just going around talking smack about the scorpions. She was asked. Anyway, Joan is generally very fair minded and isn’t so quick to jump to judgment of people, unlike some others I could mention - including some people in this comment section!
Not a fan, not a hater. She had a few "catchy" tunes, that are commercial, not technical. I never understood her being viewed as some great guitarist. If she was, somebody else wouldnt do lead.
Ted is kind of right about her on Guitar I mean shes an alright rhythm guitarist but .. shes just a rhythm guitarist. She doesnt even play lead or partial leads its not like shes Townshend or Gibbons playing both lead and rhythm no just a rhythm guitarist.
Other than being two moderately attractive and socially juvenile chicks that played OK at best, always begged the question, "WTF would be the reason to ever see or hear more?"
@@spark556 I remember going to one her performances, and really disliking the vibe of bombastic over charged 'boys' intermingled with rude quasi lesbian types. No need for cosplay rock and roll style, let's focus a bit more on mastery of the art.
My vote goes to Joan Jett. Great performer, love her energy and attitude. Also like the way she sings and still like her hits today. I even like a few of the Runaways songs.
I really don't care about so called "Greatest Guitarist Polls!" They are just someone/everyone/anyone's opinions!" Legends just stand out! Opinions not needed! However in any"Conversation;" on Guitarists, I also believe Ted Nugent to be an incredible talent! He doesn't need a Poll's approval, His style is unique!
It's a sad fact that so many people put any credence at all in anything that rolling stone ever says about anything. That rag has never been anything but a bunch of know-nothing, talentless hacks pretending to be the adjudicators of what music is. Problem with their self-idolatry is that they proved with every issue that they had zero musical acumen. This has been shown clearly from the inception to today. And their 'guitarist' list is so laughable that it could have just as easily been written by The Onion. As for Joan Jett, she rocks. Always has. She doesn't have to be a Lifeson, Page, Beck, Fripp to have earned real rock respect. As for the Nuge, one of my favorite guitar magazine articles of years gone by was titled, "Ted Nugent - 25 years in the key of A". To be fair, it is pretty easy to lay your index finger across the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings at the second fret, strum hard through a cranked amp and imagine yourself a rock god. And that's true for anyone. 🙂
Understand that any "best" list of musicians, singers, etc, is mostly subjective. You like what you like. What you call "good music" and what I call "good music" may be different and we can both be right.
@@davestang5454 You're right. Glad to agree with you. Except, that's not what I was saying. My multi-decades-long observation (that doesn't exist in a vacuum) is that the RR paper (magazine) has always been a resource for the absolute worst in music opinion and reporting. It has always been a heavy-handed bunch of know-nothing hipsters that just enjoy bashing what music the majority likes, in favor of the "outsiders" that most people don't know or don't really like, most of whom range from bad to having not much talent at all. But they're "outside", so in the pretend elitist minds of the RR staff, those "artists" are what is cool. And since these pretend elitists have no idea what real talent or musical importance is, their opinion has, pretty much, zero validity. That said, for people who really do know music, "best" is far more quantifiable than just what one likes or doesn't. 2 cases in point: I have huge respect for the talent of Pat Metheny. But I can't stand listening to his music. The Ramones were horrible musicians, and barely that. But I've more years of fun by their music than I can count. What is quantifiably good (skilled, able, talented, creative, inspiring) has a real place. Yet that can be a very different place from where we just simply enjoy what they do no matter how 'not good' it is. That was my point. 🙂
Joan Jett is about one and a half or maybe two rungs above Sid Vicious as a guitair player. As for the Crock and Roll Stall of Lame, it is aways interesting how many truly great muscians are not in it. A real list of truly great musicians.
Seems like Kenny keeps Joan doped up. She gave up her legacy to be a county fair band that everyone watches for that one song then goes and plays some carnival games. She’s also a “gay icon”, but deeply closeted
@@RockonGolddustwoman0070 don’t you? Just hate when people do that?! They come here, and touch on something, but never explain what they’re talking about. It’s really irritating!
I have picked up all her albums over the decades, seen her in various settings live and she has never been anything other than a minimallly competent accompanist on guitar.
She's a 3 chord rhythm guitarist. I'm a HUGE fan of hers, but she is definitely NOT in the top 100 best guitarists. I love her, but even now that ending "solo" in Everyday people is emberassng to ME cuz she actually CAN do better with it but she just doesn't for whatever reason. I even thought after a few years in lockdown she had plenty of time to play MORE and maybe learn MORE and add MORE in concert but she didn't. Oh well, lol.
Just putting this out there for the people who keep calling Joan a cover queen, and her band a cover band. Consider these stats: Of the songs included on her greatest hits package, only five of them are covers. 16 of them are originals, all of which, Joan had a hand in writing, either as a co-writer, or solo. Yes, Joan has written quite a few songs solo! That is, without co-writers! And of the five songs that get repeated on the radio the most, three of them are originals, while only two are covers. So, it is beyond foolish to keep calling Joan Jett a cover queen, and it’s even more foolish to call her whole band a cover band, when they have over 120 original songs to their credit! Joan appreciates all the songs that helped her along her way, whether they are covers or not. But, Joan Jett is much more than a cover queen! And her original songs are great too! In fact, I enjoy many of them more than her covers! I tend to skip over her covers in favor of her originals. I suggest you do the same thing- at least until you learn to stop lying about her! If you are under the impression that Joan Jett is the leader of a cover band, who has only had one or two hits in her life, who never writes any of her own songs, then you’re just repeating lies, and it’s about time you stopped making a fool of yourself, and learn the truth!!
Ok so we’re not gonna talk about how Lita flat out lied about the reunion? How even Cherie said Lita made issues out of nothing? How Lita has always been an unhinged nightmare?? Hmm no ok
We don't need a reunion. They stay better preserved as they was.Instead of what they are. BTW Ted Nugent was right..He may or may not be a dick. But he never even once mentioned himself in that interview. The whole thing is on the tube. Most of Jetts hits, are either covers or written by someone else. With her as co writer. A guitar duel with her and lita would've been interesting back in the days
@@D-Fens_1632 After 'I Love Rock 'n' Roll', she did a cover of 'Crimson and Clover'. They played the video a few times for 'Crimson and Clover' on MTV, but that's the only other song of hers that I remember.

@@MrTonaluv There are some great rhythm guitarists out there, so I wouldn't dismiss someone out of hand just because they don't play lead. Lists are subjective, and really only amount to an author's opinion. I like Joan, and respect she's managed to make a career for herself playing guitar, but at the same time I wouldn't put her on a top ten guitarists list either. 🙂
Nugent is way better than Jett in everything music-related. Ted Nugent doesn't get the recognition he deserves because of his politics. Of course, they won't say that. But everyone knows that's why, whether they admit it or not.
Of course, that's true. If Ted Nugent had "I love Democrats" stickers all over his guitar and supported every stupid liberal cause out there, he would be adored in the Los Angeles music industry. How stupid to blackball any entertainer because of their political views.
You are absolutely right! The truth is though, Cherie doesn’t care about the fans and she never did. This is why, unlike Joan Jett, who has never personally charged for a meeting greet or her autograph, Cherie is charging over $100 to meet her at her concert, and $80 just for an autographed photo at her convention appearance. she’s greedy and very disingenuous! The only reason she’s pretending to care about the fans now, is because she’s trying to throw Joan under the bus. She’s been against Joan for the past few years because Joan’s record label Blackheart didn’t give her her own way on an album that she’s been lying about for years as well. Anything she can say or do in an attempt to make Joan look bad most of the time, she will- even if it is a complete and utter lie - which most of the time, it is. And in this case, it definitely is! She has a few moments of grace and honesty here and there where her kindness is true, and those moments, she will be gracious towards Joan - as she should be. But those more thoughtful moments are relatively rare for her, compared to the ugly side of her nature. As you say, if she really cared about the fans, she would’ve stayed with the band. If she really cared about the fans, she wouldn’t have turned her back on Joan and black heart - continues to speak bad about Joan and Blackheart to this day. And the only reason she announced her “final“ show recently is because she’s made so many enemies in the business from being fickle and not giving a darn about anybody but herself. But, because she doesn’t like to face the truth about herself, she will turn things around and try to make herself seem like a hero going out - which is why she’s latched onto the children’s welfare angle. So, instead of admitting that this has to be her last show Because hardly anybody wants to play with her, nor do they want to be associated with her on the venue, she’s making it sound like it’s a personal choice, by claiming that she is “leaving entertainment for a higher purpose”. She’ll say and do anything to avoid having to admit to her own failings. The woman is preposterous! And so hateful, it’s incredible! As long as you’re kissing her backside, though, she’ll be nice to you. But heaven forbid you have a misunderstanding with her, because she’s always ready to put up a fight - she’s always ready to combust that any moment! And her point of view is so warped, that, even if you say something that is meant to be kind, don’t be surprised if she misunderstand it and then, it’s over! Don’t expect her to hear you out either, because she won’t. And this is why she’s had so much drama in her life - because she creates it - she lives off it! And don’t ever give your own opinion on anything, because even if you’re one of her dear friends, she will threaten to remove you from her life that’s what she does. She has shown time and time again - both personally and professionally - that she lacks any form of loyalty. But you know, some people are like that - and other people are too blind to it, so she still has folks, kissing her backside, because they don’t see that they would be collateral too, the minute they didn’t bow down to her every whim, kiss her backside, or agree with her on everything. She’s really despicable! I kind of feel sorry for her. She has no idea how she comes across.
Those lists aren't REALLY what they say they are. Sure, they have some legitimately BEST people on them (doing whatever they do BEST). But, a lot of it is about inclusion and popularity. They have always been that way. It's the same thing with award shows.
I can play thousands of covers on drums so by that definition i should be in the hall of fame before joan and her barely a handful. Bubblegum pop star with a guitar in swimwear for the simps to stare at.
Sure, that’s why it was just Joan and Sandy that inspired the band the runaways! Joan had the phone, called Kim Fowley up on the phone, and said listen to this, and they played for him, just Joan and Sandy. He liked what he heard so much, that he decided to support them and help them get other members, including Lita. If Joan had no guitar skills, that could’ve never happened. I do believe that Lita helped Joan to improve, but she didn’t teach her everything.
She actually is a very sensitive person who cares a lot. People have the wrong impression of her, just because of that bad reputation song and the image she projects with the way that she dresses in the dark make up. But the truth is, she’s very sensitive, and gentle by all accounts from people who actually know her. The only people who say bad things about her are people with chips on their shoulders out of jealousy, or they flat out lie.
It may be "sexist" to say that the women as guitar-playing rock musicians are just not as good as the men but it's true. I can't think of a single "girl band" who can be on the level of even the top 100 bands composed of men. It's not intended as an insult. It doesn't mean they are lousy. They just are not on the same level of talent as the men are in this style of music.
Can I get the background on why my favourite band Rush hates Joan Jett? Geddy Lee also seems to knock off Poland (likewise Neil Peart). I'm myself a female rock musician from Poland, who got hated.
They do, if they are thinking about iconic status and who brings most people to the guitar! It’s not all about being a virtuoso/lead guitarist- it’s also about who helps to popularize the instrument, who serves as the biggest inspiration to upcoming players, etc. And by that measure, Joan Jett absolutely deserves a spot on the list
Joan is not someone I would put on a list with Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen, Nita Strauss, and Steve Vai. Joan wasn't even the best guitarist in The Runaways. Lita Ford is a great guitarist, and made a name for herself, which is telling of her talent! Joan and Lita both have great songs! If you were to put Joan on the "list of best guitarists," when she's just a rhythm guitarist, you need to also put Paul Stanley on it, Brad Whitford, Malcom Young, James Hetfield, and many other rhythm guitarists. They're not virtuosos, but they have their own sounds, and are all great song writers!
Doesn't deserve to be in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame....yet. Really... before Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, Procol Harum and Jethro Tull? ... the list goes on.
I am a big fan of Joan Jett and Rush. Have seen them both in concert multiple times and always great shows. Nothing to do with this video, but why is Rik Emmett not on the guitarist list.
I'm a HUGE fan of Joan, but NO she should NOT be in that list of best guitarists. She's a 3 chord rhythm guitarist, thats it. Joan and Lita NEVER had beef IN the Runaways, due to drugs and manager Toby Mamis pitting Joan against Lita in their musical differences yes the band broke up. However, you forgot to mention how JOAN wanted to put the Runaways together when Sandy West was still alive and it was LITA who effed it up. But NOW yes Joan is too protective of the Runaways as if she was the ONLY member or something. WHY she had Kenny Laguna at dinner when Lita invited Joan is beyond me, it should've been a girls night out to catch up. I don't agree at ALL when it comes to how Joan handles anything with the Runaways nowadays. I never heard Joan talk bad about the Scorpions. Celebrities are people too and make stupid choices including saying stupid things, Joan should've kept her mouth shut when Ted Nugent expressed an OPINION which wasn't wrong in itself anyways. Again, I'm a fan of Joan's but I also can look at things objectively and have my OWN opinion. For me NO celebrity is perfect, they're people with faults just like the rest of us.
Joan did keep her mouth shut, until she was directly asked about it by an interviewer. Joan didn’t just respond to it willy-nilly. And as for why Kenny was there at the dinner, probably for emotional support, because Joan is a very shy and nervous person in general, unless she knows you really well - and there had been a lot of hurt between Joan and Lita. Especially from Lita to Joan. so Joan needed him there for support and protection, from Joan’s standpoint. Also, for in case they tried to weasel her into a crooked business deal. She learned from the past that they are envious of her and don’t really care about her. So he was there sort of as her makeshift lawyer as well. I used to not understand or agree with how Joan handled the runaways in the aftermath of the break up with the band. But now I understand it completely. If they’re going to treat her like a punching bag, or behave like a bunch of rodents that want to attack the cheese, then she has every right to take the defensive, and protect herself.
I BELIEVE Geddy Lee. The Runaways did have a big chip on their shoulders. Now, Are they getting treated poorly by other bands, or was it the Press just planting that seed in their already open to misogynistic suggestion heads IDK.
At Least HALF of Joan Jetts problems are because of the Strange relationship with her manager Kenny Laguna he has a sort of Svhengali like hold on her.
Joan Jett is a performer,a rock singer,a rock legend,a role model, but one thing she is not is a guitar player...rhythm guitar, yes, but not a guitar player like Hendrix or Jeff Beck or the like She should've left her face alone and not had gotten plastic surgery...
She told you that who couldn’t stand Lita? Are you saying that the babysitter said that Joan couldn’t stand Lita, or are you saying that the babysitter couldn’t stand Lita?
Joan certainly had the looks and voice. A lil too macho for my taste. I prefer rocker chicks that had the looks, attitude and everything that Joan had and were ALSO feminine and wasn't so dykie. Like Lita Ford or the Vixen bitches. It always seemed Joan was trying to be just a tough as the boys for some reason.
"Scorpions ARE a German hard rock band" "The Runaways WERE an American rock band" Wikpedia! Says it all really. As for the Blackhearts, nothing more than her all male backing band.
Personally, I have never understood the appeal of her music or voice. As a guitar player, I would not put her in the top 500. Lita, on the other hand, is at least a candidate for top 100.
Joan Jett all image, no substance. I see her the same way I saw Sid Vicious. Someone standing on stage trying to look tough. She made her big mark doing covers that simple minded folk loved. Lita Ford, however kicked ass as a solo artist. I saw her live in 83 and she was awesome. She should be getting all to accolades Joan Jett gets.
You think Joan is all in image, no substance, because you have only bothered to look at the surface of her. You think that Lita should be getting all the accolades that Joan gets, because you just see her on stage and think wow, she’s for real. But who is behind the scenes, really helping women succeed, and helping musicians succeed in the business? Who helped produce other albums of struggling musicians? Who was back there, raising money for the investigation of a fellow murdered musician, to bring closure and justice? Who doesn’t charge for meet and greet, except for charities organizations, to raise money for a charity, the rest of the time meeting fans from the goodness of her heart, and giving away free merch - including free guitars to fans and up-and-coming musicians? That’s Joan Jett. She’s much more than her image. Joan has done so much for the community, things that the only way I know about them is other people bragging about her. She never talks about it herself. That’s because she’s humble. But sometimes, it leads people like you to think that all there is to her are cover songs. By the way, Joan is a big supporter of the military, and was the first one to go over to to Iraq, during the Iraq war, before anybody. She only brought herself, a guitar, and her friend. She has taken part in the classic USO tour, the same way Bob Hope did - as well as going over to countries in the Middle East without a tour to back her - just herself, a friend, and her guitar. She has been to Afghanistan, during the Afghan war, she goes places that most would fear to go. And she doesn’t whine about it. She supports this country, she supports the people coming up after her, and she deserves every accolade she’s gotten because of it. Lita Ford is a great musician. But Joan’s accolades are beyond her music. That’s why she’s called an icon.
What do you think of Joan Jett?
Wash up has been ..........................
@Veronica4u2day yes she is
Shite guitarist, sub par singer.
As a guitar player myself, I do not hold her in such high regard of being a guitarist. Lita Ford on the other hand now that’s a guitar player.
Got to see Lita Ford live in a small club. As for RUSH I'll believe them over Joan Jett any day.
Why? Rush are pretentious assholes...
They were basically a cover band, and most of their hits including "I love rock n roll" were covers. Her "tough chick" gimmick didn't impress me at all.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA says it now on the internet !
Yeah, if a cover band wrote over 120 songs! Cover bands, do not write original songs, by definition, so therefore, not a cover band.

Trower was a much more talented guitar player than Joan Jett.
No one wants to admit to liking Ted Nugent or putting him in any top list of any sort in the year 2024+. Especially any major publication. Can you blame them? The guy effed children for goodness sake. And he himself, is overrated. Last thing we need to do is continue to feed that ego.
Agreed. Gary Ritchrath, Gary Moore, Rod Price.
Joan is mediocre at best
All correct. She is not a top 100 guitarist. If Ted had never had a political stance, he'd be on the list and in the RRHOF.
Because she was the first attractive female rocker
love Joan Jett , but The Scorpions sell out arenas in the states , while she opened up for 45 minutes for Poison, Motley and Def Leparrd last year
Joan Jett deserves respect. It’s tough being a woman in rock ‘n’ roll. Who cares about who should be on the list for some magazines’ list of the top 100 guitarists?
Whenever a woman starts blaming everything on sexism I instantly tune them out.
Whenever someone says that Joan Jett blames everything on sexism, I instantly know that they weren’t listening, because that’s the only way they could get it all wrong.

Go figure!
@@storybellzIf the 4 or 5 radio hits are mostly covers, that doesn't bode well for the rest of their 120 originals.
@@storybellzInteresting story! I'm glad I bumped into you. I've always found "I Hate Myself for Loving You" to be a poorly written song. I always had a thing for Joan and always will!
I love me sum Joan jett❤❤ met her in 91 a rock auction in Atlanta Ga. Saw her at Six Flags ATL , back in the day the 80s. She leaped and was air borne off of a giant speaker playing the guitar , of course she was in her early 20s ❤❤

JOAN JETT ISN'T EVEN CLOSE TO THE SCORPIONS....REALITY CHECK.
Same question, as a Polish Rush fan.
@@olganesterowicz2112 I think, as I said that Joan is telling the truth, but that the runways were the only teenage girl band they ever shared a bill with, so that makes the difference.

JJ had a super-badass stage look, but couldn't write her way out of a paper bag.
That's exactly right
She was all looks and that's okay but people cannot pretend she was that talented

Lita is a Guitar Beast
Saw her in concert back in the day too, Lita Ford kicks ass

You're right.
2 cases in point:
I have huge respect for the talent of Pat Metheny.

Just putting this out there for the people who keep calling Joan a cover queen, and her band a cover band. Consider these stats:
Of the songs included on her greatest hits package, only five of them are covers.

Maybe Currie shouldn’t have quit if it was for the fans
You forgot me on this list. I'm as much of a star as JJ is.
According to Lita, she had to teach Joan the basics of playing rhythm I believe her.
“It’s karma. Look at where I am and where they are…” Where do you think you are?👀🤔

Stars who don't like Joan Jett,, Do you really think that woman gives a damn,,? HELL NO..😂😂😂
@@richardgreen9330 Lacking the social awareness that to function 'Within' a society clearly portrays immaturity.
Nugent should be on the list before Jett, absolutley.
I'm just checking to see if Adam Carolla makes the list. Her career is often brought up in anger on his show.
That’s interesting. Why?
ill take joan any day.....
I don't think anyone in their right mind believes Joan Jett should be on any top 100 or best of list.
The runaways were a gimmick. They were not a good band although they had a couple of Talented members.
Ted > Joan kids!
Nugen was right. I mean, Joan Jett was never even the best guitar player in her own band much less being one of the best all-time.
Currie was selfish she was the one who quit cause she couldn't deal with pressure and wanted to be around her family
Bigger than scorpions??! Her biggest hit is a cover!
Probably a lot of assumptions made and once in the media you can't go back. It is wicked on much hate is in the music making.
Joan hit the wall at full speed didn’t she?😂
I am a big fan of Joan Jett and Rush. Have seen them both in concert multiple times and always great shows. Nothing to do with this video, but why is Rik Emmett not on the guitarist list.
I could say the same...
Joan Jett 81
At Least HALF of Joan Jetts problems are because of the Strange relationship with her manager Kenny Laguna he has a sort of Svhengali like hold on her.
I have never disliked Joan Jett but the fact is The Runaways weren’t that good and Joan Jett has little musical talent.
Poor girl looking like Keith Richards
Jane Zit and the Blackheads 😂
Man that title card really makes her look bad hahah
Joan Jett is a performer,a rock singer,a rock legend,a role model, but one thing she is not is a guitar player...rhythm guitar, yes, but not a guitar player like Hendrix or Jeff Beck or the like
She should've left her face alone and not had gotten plastic surgery...
I dated a girl that was a nanny for Merle and Kenny Laguna she told me she couldn’t stand Lita Ford
The scorn of crusty draws Nugent is a badge of honor.
Last time I saw Joan Jett perform, she looked like my grandma in spandex.
@@R0dan everyone going to get old ya know. She was born in 1958.
Right but why does she dress like she’s in her twenties?
@@R0dan that's her style the leather and spandex jumpsuits. She's a rocker not a old granny knitting quilts at a nursing home. Lol
"Scorpions ARE a German hard rock band"
"The Runaways WERE an American rock band"
Wikpedia!
Says it all really. As for the Blackhearts, nothing more than her all male backing band.
Strong woman.. but lita ford is a great guitarist
The majority of people in this comment section didn’t pass the vibe check:( it’s mostly full of fragile ego-ed middle aged men.
I remember that she saved a kid from drowning.
My wife repetvely creates the most unpleasant of circumstances for me.
Bigger than the scorpions no way
What'd she do to her face?
