But that whole thing about him holding some kind of strange power over her and how her career has been dead because of him for years now is something that's not exactly a secret, this is probably at least the 4th or 5th time I've heard an interview with someone talking about that, and why she allows herself to be so manipulated by him is the big mystery, she has no problem bossing people around but as soon as he's in the room it's like some kind of voodoo power is put on her, they say she instantly turns into a different person, and you'd think after what Kim Fowley put her through she'd never let something like that happen to her but she does, and no one who has ever been around it can understand.

JOAN JETT is the lone hold out for a RUNAWAYS reunion, The drummer (Sandy West) that passed away wanted a reunion bad, In the Runaways doc you could tell she wanted it more than any member, she had no kids and her baby was the Runaways. I think I remember hearing LITA FORD say that it was JOAN JETTs Manager that is constantly at EVERY meeting or even there when they get together just to "Shoot The Shit" as he may be insecure about leaving them by themselves. It still be great for a RUNAWAYS reunion and they shoulda did it when the Movie came out and/or before Sandy Passed Away!!! GREAT BAND though.
Nobody gave a shit about the runaways when they were at their so-called peak unless you lived in Japan. They were a jailbait band, certainly interesting but no great songs. I seriously doubt Jackie fox is interested in taking a pause from her law career to rejoin the runaways.
When I was in Virginia Beach in 1999 Joan Jett was getting ready to perform. I told my friend look who it is and we got to talk to her for 15 minutes before she went on and after the show went to a local bar with the band
@@DBMorris Yeah, its called speaking ya mind, and not being afraid to. Not bowing to the woke pathetic milquetoasts of the world. WAAA! WAAA! Ya mean, you offended me. F OFF!
Joan is left-handed and plays guitar right-hand because when she was a teenager, she thought that she had to play right-handed because that's how most people play. With that in mind, it's surprising to hear this guy talk about how good she is as a rhythm guitarist. Try playing wrong-handed and see how not-easy it is!
Yeah but if she started like that how difficult could it be? I'm right handed but play drums (not that often) left handed. 1.) I had a left handed friend in middle school let me bang on his drums 2.) Sports ruined drums for me because in like, say soccer, as a right hander you use the left foot to travel/dribble the ball and the right foot for to power kick it across the field or in a goal. So my left hand on the hi hat and right for the power on the snare. Same principle applied to boxing. Tap with the left. Power with the right.
I remember when she opened up for Robert Plant on the Now And Zen tour. They both played and amazing show!! I was there for Plant! Joan Jett rocked the house!! Awesome show!! I was so bummed out when the concert was over. I wanted to hear more Plant and Jett!!
*FunFact:* Joan Jett produced the *Germs - G. I.* album. Easily one or the greatest Punk Rock recordings of all time. Absolute MASTERPIECE!! She is an absolute LEGEND!! Respect.
Read Lexicon Devil. She didn't produce it. She did next to nothing other than suggest doubling some vocals and guitars. The only reason she was there was to add name value to it. Her only motivation for showing up was to try and get Lorna Doom fucked up to try and take advantage of her. She is a disgusting human being.
She has admitted that she had little to do with the effort. Pat Smear (who is way too kind) has taken the high road. Also confirming! “Yeah she was there getting high with us everyday”.

@johnsmith-ug5tp She’s like that because her tastes are illegal. But it’s open secret. Myley Cyrus all but admitted she got her drugged up a lot and took advantage of her for a few years before she got too old.
I never understood how female artist would let these managers/producer control them. Seems so damn bizarre. Lita also. Shania twain Celine dion. Im sure there's more
And people give Madonna so much 💩. Shes been in control since day one. Always did what she wanted and it’s not like she hasn’t gone through a lot either. She didn’t have a Svengali or a father like to control everything and guide her like Michael Jackson or Beyonce.
One of the biggest travesties is that Joan is in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame and Lita isn’t. Now this interview explains a lot. The reason she’s such a machine is that she’s not allowed to be spontaneous either as a human being or as a musician.
Lita Ford, not too long ago, talked about meeting with Joan for lunch and that it had been years since they’d seen each other. Lita’s intent was to clear the air and hopefully reconcile. Joan shows up and has Kenny in tow which pretty well ruined any real conversation Lita had planned.
Oh, wait. I assumed that Joan got in via The Runaways. Are you telling me that her crappy two-hit-wonder band got into the RRHOF before the legendary Runaways?
I don't who he "fired" but it wasn't the drummer. Johnny Dee was the drummer. I onow this because he was the first drummer i ever saw play live at a major show when Britny Fox opened for RATT and he's now a friend of mine.
Joan is a nothing but a cover act. Why people are so in awe of her is mind blowing. Most of her hits were covers. Half the songs on her records are covers. She has no business being anywhere near the RRHOF.
Exactly! I've always said that and got torn apart because I'm a Lita fan. Never liked Joan, never had an original hit, all covers. Joan might be a "great" rhythm player, Lita knows her way backwards forwards and sideways on a guitar. Met them both- Lita was awesome, Joan always seemed to have a stick up her ass,
The Britny Fox guitarist was in Cinderella. They needed to boot him to get their deal. The similarities were not by coincidence. BTW, I always through the Britny Fox drummer looked out of place. This story explains why.
Met Joan Jett in the early eighties. She was just getting started in her solo deal and when I met her, she looked just like her album cover. She was nice enough and polite and seemed to be normal enough. Or what passed for normal in the world I was living in at the time.
Yes, Joan Jett was a bonafide star circa 82-83, but she was really a one-hit wonder for the most part. Well, I guess she had 2-3. Pretty amazing she was able to milk that into an entire career.
The record companies never gave Joan any real support. When it comes to women that really rock such as Joan and Lita Ford the industry could not figure out to promote them.
How can you say Joan didn't receive any record company support? She has a number one hit single (I Love RnR) and two big selling albums in her career .
@@angryagain3801 she didn't get any real support you look up interviews she has done over the years and there is documentary came out few years ago talking about it.

Joan Jett was my first concert as a teen in 1983, I remember at one point she looked right at me, hey Joan do you remember me, I was wearing the Ocean-Pacific t-shirt. Seriously though. she was the BEST concert I've ever seen, I saw many big acts after that but none topped the energy of Joan
Joan Jett was the odd bird booking in 7-23-83 Comiskey Park Chicago MTV concert. She was booed off the stage. She and the band took beating from crowd that was throwing anything they could up on the stage at the Blackhearts. My memory has them cutting off their set early...
That's admittedly one of the jagged pills I have had to swallow in recent years. Is that not only being a kid from the 80s, but also having gone down the road of "Musician" myself, I have had to look back at bands I once idolized and with a scrutinous eye, admit that "Wow... these guys arent really talented." Dont get me wrong, I wont sit here and jerk myself off with thoughts of grandeur as though I would have been something back then, but doing it oneself, there are certain things you pick up on over the years and then listen to music more analytically. Like "What makes this song so good/like this/this part/etc?" Then break it down in a way to where it makes sense and you can possibly kind of use the ruins to build something new. Dont get me wrong, a lot of those songs were absolutely fun and catchy as all hell, I still blast them... but you can tell it didnt really take a lot of "Talent" to make them. However, it at least took a human brain, with feeling and emotion, unlike today.
Hair Metal was the worst. An embarrassment to popular music. We're so fortunate that Grunge came along to breathe new life into everything. Joan Jett was/is awesome though.
Joan had a following when I was a kid The runaways were big and she took off after that. I went into high School in 1980, there is a couple times that I saw her I think it was the cars I can't remember who else but their band was very tight they were good all their songs sound exactly the way they should.
I'm pretty sure Joan Jett opened for The Police one year 1983 and then opened for Ratt in 1987. She might have also opened for Loverboy once in my city . I can't recall her ever headlining a big arena on her own in my city.
Joan Jett played our tiny camp in Bosnia or Kosovo...didn't really even have a stage, amazingly I wasn't out on patrol and had time to check it out. I respected her but wasn't a huge fan or anything. They absolutely effin ROCKED. Such an unexpected great experience.....Joan Mother Effing Jett.
Poison brought out britny fox and lita ford on poisons first headlining tour in 1988, poison could’ve done another album like open up and say ahhh but I guess Bret was kinda a controller, britny had a few songs I liked but you can play the first 2 poison albums back to back and not skip a track
Watched Jett live. She has a handful of good songs. One or two the audience knew well enough to sing along to. Decent stage presence. She was never a major deal in the music scene.
@@danstone8783 Well, I kind of lose respect for her, because I'm pretty sure she witnessed the rape of one of her bandmates, and said nothing, nor seemed to have any conscience about it.
JJ and The Blackhearts were terrific in concert. Motley Crew, however, lipsynced, airplayed, and used dancers and lighting to deflect their inadequacies. It was ridiculous.
Does anyone else remember a different version of the video “Little Liar”? Seems like I remember what I believe was the 1st version of it, it was a little different and had a few different scenes. It was kind of like what they did with the KISS video of Hide Your Heart - quickly make an alternate version to keep controversy to a minimum. But I don’t remember any specific scene that would have been inappropriate in the Little Liar video.
I had no idea of most of these things. I was her #1 fan starting in 1982 in high school but over the years moved on to other artist as my #1 artist. I had no idea she was such a great rhythm guitarist. I knew she was a good player but had no idea she could play as well as he describes. Amazing. From what he says it sounds like Kenny Laguna is more than a producer but is a "handler". Not everyone in entertainment has a handler but if he has been controlling her for 40 plus years like this then it appears she may be a mind controlled slave and was groomed and shaped to be who she has become. Just the mere fact that she was so obedient to not thinking she could go out and get pizza is a bad sign. Without having a handler she may have taken a different road in her career and personal life. By the way I have that cover album and I thought it was really good. Too bad it didn't do so well.
Hmm ...respectfully... you're very creative, I'll give you that. However, any JJ fan can see all the discrepancies in this story, although I do admire how you utilize just enough truth so that the falsehoods also seem truthful - and the way you give praise while taking jabs...
As a pleab who loves music, I love hearing the people behind it talk shop.
I like these kinds of interviews as well: "behind the scenes".

I'm a late 80's kid. Listened to them all. and there is not one classic rock or pop station in my city which does not play one Joan Jett song every 4 hours.
I don’t care what anyone says, Joan Jett doesn’t belong on the top 10 most influential guitarist! Not even close
She doesn't claim that either. She knows she is a rhythm guitarist at best. Music magazines gave her that title.
It’s a joke that she is lol

You're absolutely right , same as Lita Ford. They don't belong anywhere near a list of influential guitarists....

I remember Sandy fighting back tears she wanted it so bad.
that guy lagunas probably telling her no
Nobody gave a shit about the runaways when they were at their so-called peak unless you lived in Japan. They were a jailbait band, certainly interesting but no great songs. I seriously doubt Jackie fox is interested in taking a pause from her law career to rejoin the runaways.
@pete25901 BS too. Your musical taste sucks if you believe that.
Rumor was that Sandy was attacked by an older man while Joan sat in the room and didn’t help

😂I thought the same in a casino in Tulsa
I’m a lefty playing a right handed guitar and bass. Same reason. It was all that was around to learn on so I learned the right way. Lol
Lots of lefties play guitar right handed. I'm right handed, but I chock the chicken with my left.
@@davejones5745 Why do you prolifically pound pud with the left hand?
Um, Jimi Hendrix? Paul McCartney? Lots of hard-to-miss lefties.
I remember when she opened up for Robert Plant on the Now And Zen tour. They both played and amazing show!! I was there for Plant! Joan Jett rocked the house!! Awesome show!! I was so bummed out when the concert was over. I wanted to hear more Plant and Jett!!

Interesting interview - nice new logo for the channel. I enjoy your interviews greatly.
She was there. The Germs indicated she was passed out drunk or high most of the time.
Yeah, she was asleep most of the time.
She has admitted that she had little to do with the effort. Pat Smear (who is way too kind) has taken the high road. Also confirming! “Yeah she was there getting high with us everyday”.

Lesbian privilege
Maybe they put her in as a combo.
Lita Ford? The one almost-had-a-hit wonder? lol
Jesus, this was a good one! Joan Jett does come off a little odd in every interview I've read or seen her do. Bizarre.
Ric's Joan Jett story always cracks me up haha Hell, the Brinty fox story is a laugh too.
Wrong: "poison" were wearing Kix's "old clothes."
Anything KIX did, successfully, or interestingly, poison appropriated from them. Period.
Thanks for saying exactly what I was gonna say. You saved me a bunch finger tapping.
Exactly! I've always said that and got torn apart because I'm a Lita fan. Never liked Joan, never had an original hit, all covers. Joan might be a "great" rhythm player, Lita knows her way backwards forwards and sideways on a guitar. Met them both- Lita was awesome, Joan always seemed to have a stick up her ass,
Joan barely knows 4 chords . So overrated

Like you said, B. Fox were a weak Cinderella clone. The last hurrah of signings in the late 80’s were all the C-level bands.
That's admittedly one of the jagged pills I have had to swallow in recent years. Is that not only being a kid from the 80s, but also having gone down the road of "Musician" myself, I have had to look back at bands I once idolized and with a scrutinous eye, admit that "Wow... these guys arent really talented."
Dont get me wrong, I wont sit here and jerk myself off with thoughts of grandeur as though I would have been something back then, but doing it oneself, there are certain things you pick up on over the years and then listen to music more analytically.
