Man is an electrician I've had days like that ! You're trying to do 4 things at once on a job you only figured on doing 2 things at, and you've got 2 other service calls to make and it's all supposed to be done today! But listening to you speak about those systems you can tell you are extremely familiar with what they're supposed to be doing, and extremely familiar with why they're not doing it and how to make them do what they're supposed to do. If you're not in the know like you it's kind of like drinking from a firehose! Lol
Really liked the video. You get right to it and show the important process of trouble shooting. I would think that anyone watching your vids would already know how to solder and braze copper lines. So we don't need to watch you doing that. Or checking for 3 Phase as ,, Most of us already understand that.. I would think that some of these compressors would run backwards if the phasing is reversed, Yes? The troubleshooting aspects and what and how to check the components is what I'm interested in. Good job! I learned a lot. BTW I'm a retired electrical electronics engineer and the refrigeration controls-and components is what's the most interesting and new to me. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Your comment on the Economiser is more relevant given this is a public space, now without the usual minimum fresh air (assumes no other source). Not Kosher. Where I am on the Canadian Prairies, I wonder about the actual cooling usefulness of the Economiser, but cannot rule out the value added by mixed air dampers vs first stage cooling ability.
You've done a great job with a great video! You just had one of those days that you want to go home and stick your head in the ground. Every job has that. But I recommend instead of that go home and cover your head up with pillows you can breathe much better
Thank you for the video. Watched 2 today. I always get a lot out of them, whoever I watch. Wow that was a lot of work. Especially, trying to fix three pieces of equipment at the same time with so many issues. 1. That sound on the compressor when you turned the switch back on would have scared the poop out of me if I was there. I don't like when it makes that metallic/electric sound. 2. I am very curious on that AC and what is going on with it. I was going through a similar situation weeks ago when the high head pressure was really high and it was freezing, high subcooling. I checked the temperature difference across the filter drier and there was 33° F difference. Airflow was low. Exhausts fans were running full blast. Make up air not working. And the Testo probes that I have starting to get stuck too. That didn't help. They just stayed in one number. I took them out and they didn't clear. I zeroed them out, and they didn't do anything. Frustrating. I will be checking your channel out to see what happens with that AC. Thank you.
Seeing your video makes me sad. Retired after 30yrs, I do not miss the trade because of your kind of calls. Friday PM and 4 other calls dispatch calling why you aint done. I do miss some of the customers. Glad your doing ok on this job, till your customer see's the bill. Just be safe.
I'm not sure how I will feel when I retire, if I can... If I won the lottery I would still be doing what I do just when I want to. I enjoy my work, I fully believe in the saying "Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life". Sure the on call sucks and the crap weather sucks, but I don't want to be stuck in a factory or the same location everyday. I'm a person that likes to keep busy and love being able to fix things.

I had a head injury (at) work, so physically I'm done no balance no ladders, 20yrs of knowledge gone, My favorite HVAC is OIL,yep I'm one of those guys, old stinky..... Be safe you all.
Your Erratic high pressure reading on the Testo gauges could be from the Schrader core depressor at the end of your hose being recessed too much. If it initially pushes the core in a little bit and then stops, the hose fills with refrigerant and heats up from the temperature of the liquid/ discharge line but is now isolated from the system so pressure builds with the increase in temperature. It’s happened to me before.
Next time, just build a ramp, so you can back your truck full speed in to the unit. Half the unit is now new, but the rest is still old. Just don't get why customers don't replace units, it's cheaper, cost benefit wise. Keep up the good work.
Rick, great job. The only good thing was it wasn’t 25’ up to a roof and 200’ across it. I love it when you need to empty everything out of your van except the spare tire🤦🏻. You did a nice job as always.
Well here's me gambling on when part 2 comes out: the two wires for high stage on that compressor are DC voltage, and your AC clamp meter isn't going to pick it up. And if they did that weird stuff with the relay and sent 24VAC to the full capacity solenoid on the compressor it's going to fry it because of poor magnetic coupling. I have a feeling they did and you're running 66% compressor under 100% load making the compressor virtually too small and allowing a flooded evaporator, freezing suction line, etc. I hope for your sanity that I'm wrong. I read that manual when I got home and I hate reading...The rectifier is in the end of the harness at the compressor... Your one the right track. The screw ups were found on the next one or two trips...

People only watch 45 to 60% of the video according to the statistics from youtube. You got to make it snappy or they watch even less, then TH-cam doesn't recommend you to anybody and then less people watch. It's a rat race. Use the forward and backwards buttons on your computer or double tap your screen on the left or right and it'll go backwards or forwards anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 seconds on average

I know those weather maker units are very bad when it comes down to brazen because technically each one of those lines coming out of that evaporator is technically a capillary line and get blocked pretty easily I've had a few times where I've had to take out the entire evaporator coil and blow them all out
I didn't leave a piece metal in a disconnected solenoid while it was energized for like a good 5-10 minutes. Was burning hot and i was shitting bricks that i'd cooked it. thankfully it still worked fine. Was a Danfoss so they must build them strong. Don't want to test that again however.
I feel you 10:18 had a heat pump a customer had us come look at after someone else and found the damn valve core and cap full of flipping blue leak lock

One the main rules in refrigeration -------- take the time!! I would have put a new sight glass on and ate the cost . Silver brazing -- fun -- cut my teeth on silver solder!
Oh, and did you happen to ask the guy that installed the package unit why he opened up the pulley all the way? I bet they oversized the unit for the ductwork and it was running crazy static pressure with factory airflow. You might have to disable 2nd stage if there's not enough airflow for it.
Fan speed doesn't change on the stage change on this unit because it didn't have the VFD. I've noticed the factory has the pulleys like that on most of the new units. I don't think this system got started like we normally do, when the office heard what all I had to do they were not happy. This has been the best company I've worked for, they train the guys and make sure the job is correct when they find out there is a problem.
4:40 thread locker and an o-ring to seal? or was it flare fitting that needs properly torqued to seal? watch out for that in the field, it could be either way, so techs need to pay attention to changes and not always assume one or the other. that goes for all fields of work, always pay attention to materials, tools and surroundings! why? because things change very fast, what worked yesterday may be nearly null and useless as of today/tomorrow. not saying technological improvements are all bad, but they all need to be "taken with a grain of salt"

Whoa, bro... That was a bit of a grind... Makes the day burn by... One question on the A/C. Where they looking for shaft speed or outer pulley speed? I've always tried to do shaft speed, or at the very least pulley hub speed, but I may have been doing it wrong for a very long time. ;-{
Carrier has several trim levels, this was a stripped down system, We quote three different models on every quote and several optional accessory's on top of that and this is what the customer picked. I bitched about the economizer and found of as you heard on the video they didn't choose it. I felt better when I heard we at lest offered it...
Does Carrier give blower pulley RPM specs? I though they just gave pulley turns open? I'd probably go one more turn so you hit 0.5". Low load can cause the TXV to hunt like that, but that could be due to the weird hybrid setup with orifice/TXV too?
Personally I hate it when they put pressure switches on stuff without a delay-on-break timer. There's no point if the low pressure is just going to chatter or short cycle and kill the compressor. So stupid. I either add a 3 min timer or disconnect the low switch.
9:20. junk metal, corrosion or winter freezing is to blame, it physically constricted and mechanically seized the valve stem inside the bore. go figure! that could happen indoor/outdoor/in box/in condenser. solenoid valves to pump down, number one cause of many failures! grated the theory behind it was to allow multiple "units" ran off a single large circuit. there is a breaking point of no return when circuits get overpopulated(typical supermarkets). AKA. miles of tubing, buildings with coolers and freezers that are hundreds of feet in length x10. (ramble-tamble) on, totally inspired by CCR( Creedence Clearwater-Revival).

Just an FYI, and maybe you know, sanding the pipe BEFORE you cut it eliminates the possibility of getting junk in it after it's cut/open end.
I do that a lot of times, I usually do when its really bad like in a restaurant. Good point to share!

I’ve made that mistake before myself not realizing I forgot to reinstall the coil on the valve. That sucks

Oh, and did you happen to ask the guy that installed the package unit why he opened up the pulley all the way? I bet they oversized the unit for the ductwork and it was running crazy static pressure with factory airflow. You might have to disable 2nd stage if there's not enough airflow for it.
Fan speed doesn't change on the stage change on this unit because it didn't have the VFD. I've noticed the factory has the pulleys like that on most of the new units. I don't think this system got started like we normally do, when the office heard what all I had to do they were not happy. This has been the best company I've worked for, they train the guys and make sure the job is correct when they find out there is a problem.

4:40 thread locker and an o-ring to seal? or was it flare fitting that needs properly torqued to seal? watch out for that in the field, it could be either way, so techs need to pay attention to changes and not always assume one or the other. that goes for all fields of work, always pay attention to materials, tools and surroundings! why? because things change very fast, what worked yesterday may be nearly null and useless as of today/tomorrow. not saying technological improvements are all bad, but they all need to be "taken with a grain of salt"

I'm the one of 99 he keeps having to correct for not listening the first time...I was given the gift of perfection that I never reach to the level I want. I causes so many problems for me....I have always had a problem of how I respond vs react. work in progress....

Whoa, bro... That was a bit of a grind... Makes the day burn by... One question on the A/C. Where they looking for shaft speed or outer pulley speed? I've always tried to do shaft speed, or at the very least pulley hub speed, but I may have been doing it wrong for a very long time. ;-{
I'm not really sure either, I have tried it all over the pulley and its about the same all over.

Do you know why someone installed a fan cycle control on that condensing unit? They come with a headmaster. Nice videos.
Carrier has several trim levels, this was a stripped down system, We quote three different models on every quote and several optional accessory's on top of that and this is what the customer picked. I bitched about the economizer and found of as you heard on the video they didn't choose it. I felt better when I heard we at lest offered it...

Does Carrier give blower pulley RPM specs? I though they just gave pulley turns open? I'd probably go one more turn so you hit 0.5". Low load can cause the TXV to hunt like that, but that could be due to the weird hybrid setup with orifice/TXV too?
I find out more on the AC and the walk in freezer on the next one or two trips....lol

They have been doing those like that for long before I came to this company. I haven't ever lost one yet from it being outside.

Why suction drier not done ?
Once the systems cleaned up, why would you want to leave a suction dryer in there possibly letting it loose again into the system?
Personally I hate it when they put pressure switches on stuff without a delay-on-break timer. There's no point if the low pressure is just going to chatter or short cycle and kill the compressor. So stupid. I either add a 3 min timer or disconnect the low switch.
Will a kinked liquid line stop a central AC from cooling and would it be immediate or over a few weeks?
Depends how badly it's kinked, generally it will still work but could reduce oil return.

9:20. junk metal, corrosion or winter freezing is to blame, it physically constricted and mechanically seized the valve stem inside the bore. go figure! that could happen indoor/outdoor/in box/in condenser. solenoid valves to pump down, number one cause of many failures! grated the theory behind it was to allow multiple "units" ran off a single large circuit. there is a breaking point of no return when circuits get overpopulated(typical supermarkets). AKA. miles of tubing, buildings with coolers and freezers that are hundreds of feet in length x10.

When you see so Many issues with the condensing unit, replace the condensing unit. Everything else is just waste of time and money
