in my opinion the last time kevin durant was KEVIN DURANT, was in the 2nd round of the 2021 playoffs when they faced the bucks, especially games 5 and 7. i remember watching those games, he was unstoppable. game 5 was one of the greatest individual performances i've seen as a fan of the nba, he dropped 49/17/10 on 70% from the field and 44% from 3. and again showed out in game 7 dropping 48/9/6 but the potential game winner (he made it) but was overruled and was a long 2 because the tip of his shoe was on the line, and you know the rest. this series was the last time kevin durant was really a true number 1 guy in my opinion. final 2021 playoff stats for him 34/9/4 on 51/40/87 splits.

Bucks never should've fired Budenholzer if they planned to get Dame from the start, which I don't think was the case. Firing Bud and getting Dame were not both planned from the start. Regardless I do think firing Griffin was the right move, getting into shootouts 140-135 with the Pistons is gross. I do not think the Bucks finish with a 57 win record under Griffin, maybe like 50-52. Regardless hiring Doc mid-season and extending him was even worse because now you've tied Doc Rivers to the Giannis/Lillard era under til the 2026-2027 which is when both guys are free agents or have player options. Bucks should've just stuck with Prunty as a interim, like they did after firing Kidd, and went into the off-season with a better plan. Budenholzer would be great to bring back or go for Kenny Atkinson or even Terry Stotts. All of those player moves sound great to me that Rusty suggested.
The main difference i saw in this playoffs with austin and dlo is that if the 3s arent falling austin still has value in the game while dlo loses almost all impact
KD needs to really consider reworking his contract. This is why I believe the whole “get your bag” thing becomes convoluted, because then there is an excuse that he doesn’t have enough help.
The Bucks tried to insert Dame into the old era that was a contender for the last 5 years and expected it to work without putting in the work and taking shortcuts. What they need is more young talent or more opportunities for their current young talent by trading some current vets for the capital that we lack.

Jaxson Hayes isnt good enough to get much time at his natural position but he's decent enough at faking being a center to keep getting contracts for a few more years. If you play an actual center to guard the lane next to Jaxson Hayes and let him just play man up defense and follow one guy around he's incredible. I've seen him lock some incredible players up. I still like Jax tho, he just needs to get on a team that is not asking him to guard the paint and is letting him to kinda find his own role in the NBA game.

Completely agree that the Bucks should rehire Coach Budenholzer. He is a good Coach and knows most of the Players on the Team. He helped them win a ring a couple years ago as well.
For the lakers, our problems were; Health (Lebron and AD were extremely healthy which makes it far more frustrating), as our core role players were hurt for a good chunk of the season at critical points, and one of our new signings intended to relieve defensive pressure, Gabe Vincent, only played 10 games before the post season. Lack of a defensive big man that could relieve pressure off AD And, IMO the biggest problem, coaching. The Shams article confirmed what I and most other people suspected all along; Ham has no idea what he's doing from an Xs and Os perspective and the team was essentially self running since February. We didn't have a gameplan on a nightly basis, and most critically, we didn't have an identity. Every team has an identity, the Nuggets have a wide open offense that is coordinated by Jokic, the Wolves have the twin towers with an explosive guard, the Warriors have (in theory) oppressive outside shooting, the Celtics have an incredibly well rounded roster where everyone at MINIMUM is GOOD at what they do, the Mavs have a dynamic offense that moves quick and can attack from all angles. The Lakers have a 40 year old that's expected to perform as if he's 32, and Anthony Davis, the best defender in the league and one of the greatest defenders of all time being forced to exist AS our only defense. Our identity is let the geriatric genetic anomaly dominate and have only one dude actually play defense who is also expected to drop 30/12 every night. Our identity is that we leave the perimeter wide open. That's on the coaching. Darvin didn't commit to the lineup that was our most successful, Dlo/Reaves/Lebron/Rui/AD, til AFTER the All Star Break. NONE of those guys were injured for extended stretches except for Rui, who missed 20 games early in the season, but once healthy he stayed on the bench until it was too late. Rui starting put us on a SIXTY WIN PACE, and Darvin was more concerned about giving Prince and Reddish 30+ minutes for some reason. This team is one or two pieces away from real contention. We just need someone with a modicum of intelligence to unlock the potential. As you said, we have big wings and, statistically, great shooters. We need a defensive system in place, get another defensive big, we might have a chance against Denver who is the wall of the west.

While yes, kobe and shaq are uncomparable to these two, giannis is a superman type player who is strong and athletic and unstoppable, and dame had a reputation for being clutch and being held down by his team. They looked like a really good duo; the modern day kobe and shaq comparison was just hype.

in my opinion the last time kevin durant was KEVIN DURANT, was in the 2nd round of the 2021 playoffs when they faced the bucks, especially games 5 and 7. i remember watching those games, he was unstoppable. game 5 was one of the greatest individual performances i've seen as a fan of the nba, he dropped 49/17/10 on 70% from the field and 44% from 3. and again showed out in game 7 dropping 48/9/6 but the potential game winner (he made it) but was overruled and was a long 2 because the tip of his shoe was on the line, and you know the rest. this series was the last time kevin durant was really a true number 1 guy in my opinion. final 2021 playoff stats for him 34/9/4 on 51/40/87 splits.

Bucks never should've fired Budenholzer if they planned to get Dame from the start, which I don't think was the case. Firing Bud and getting Dame were not both planned from the start. Regardless I do think firing Griffin was the right move, getting into shootouts 140-135 with the Pistons is gross. I do not think the Bucks finish with a 57 win record under Griffin, maybe like 50-52. Regardless hiring Doc mid-season and extending him was even worse because now you've tied Doc Rivers to the Giannis/Lillard era under til the 2026-2027 which is when both guys are free agents or have player options. Bucks should've just stuck with Prunty as a interim, like they did after firing Kidd, and went into the off-season with a better plan. Budenholzer would be great to bring back or go for Kenny Atkinson or even Terry Stotts. All of those player moves sound great to me that Rusty suggested.

The Bucks tried to insert Dame into the old era that was a contender for the last 5 years and expected it to work without putting in the work and taking shortcuts. What they need is more young talent or more opportunities for their current young talent by trading some current vets for the capital that we lack.
As a Bucks fan, I’d rather see Lopez gone than Portis. I think his post defense can be covered by Giannis and Bobby, and a younger, quicker center would help us a lot more

Jaxson Hayes isnt good enough to get much time at his natural position but he's decent enough at faking being a center to keep getting contracts for a few more years. If you play an actual center to guard the lane next to Jaxson Hayes and let him just play man up defense and follow one guy around he's incredible. I've seen him lock some incredible players up. I still like Jax tho, he just needs to get on a team that is not asking him to guard the paint and is letting him to kinda find his own role in the NBA game.

Completely agree that the Bucks should rehire Coach Budenholzer. He is a good Coach and knows most of the Players on the Team. He helped them win a ring a couple years ago as well.
For the lakers, our problems were;
Health (Lebron and AD were extremely healthy which makes it far more frustrating), as our core role players were hurt for a good chunk of the season at critical points, and one of our new signings intended to relieve defensive pressure, Gabe Vincent, only played 10 games before the post season.
Lack of a defensive big man that could relieve pressure off AD
And, IMO the biggest problem, coaching. The Shams article confirmed what I and most other people suspected all along; Ham has no idea what he's doing from an Xs and Os perspective and the team was essentially self running since February. We didn't have a gameplan on a nightly basis, and most critically, we didn't have an identity. Every team has an identity, the Nuggets have a wide open offense that is coordinated by Jokic, the Wolves have the twin towers with an explosive guard, the Warriors have (in theory) oppressive outside shooting, the Celtics have an incredibly well rounded roster where everyone at MINIMUM is GOOD at what they do, the Mavs have a dynamic offense that moves quick and can attack from all angles.
The Lakers have a 40 year old that's expected to perform as if he's 32, and Anthony Davis, the best defender in the league and one of the greatest defenders of all time being forced to exist AS our only defense. Our identity is let the geriatric genetic anomaly dominate and have only one dude actually play defense who is also expected to drop 30/12 every night. Our identity is that we leave the perimeter wide open.
That's on the coaching. Darvin didn't commit to the lineup that was our most successful, Dlo/Reaves/Lebron/Rui/AD, til AFTER the All Star Break. NONE of those guys were injured for extended stretches except for Rui, who missed 20 games early in the season, but once healthy he stayed on the bench until it was too late. Rui starting put us on a SIXTY WIN PACE, and Darvin was more concerned about giving Prince and Reddish 30+ minutes for some reason.
This team is one or two pieces away from real contention. We just need someone with a modicum of intelligence to unlock the potential. As you said, we have big wings and, statistically, great shooters. We need a defensive system in place, get another defensive big, we might have a chance against Denver who is the wall of the west.

While yes, kobe and shaq are uncomparable to these two, giannis is a superman type player who is strong and athletic and unstoppable, and dame had a reputation for being clutch and being held down by his team. They looked like a really good duo; the modern day kobe and shaq comparison was just hype.
