I like using the proraso as a post shave. You have to leave the face a little damp or it will dry leaving a white residue. I also use the buffing technique under my chin and it works great.
I often use Proraso Sensitive Preshave (white cap jar). Scent is a bit lighter and the protection it affords me is noticeable. Softens the bristles better than water alone and provides a better glide.
Just a heads up in case you're interested: B&M is releasing their Fougeres again on 5/2. They're pricey ($35), but Will usually sells out wicked fast. I've only used the Imperiale, which is a very deep and Earthy; almost like there's a plant growing out of the tub. Might be worth grabbing one if you're looking to try something different.
The fragrance oils (or Will's process to make the oils... whatever he does) is what makes it an expensive soap to produce. He doesn't compromise when it comes to creating the scents he wants, so his soaps get more expensive with certain scents, none more than the Fougeres. Another weird thing about the Fougeres: He offers them in both tallow and vegan formulations. I don't really understand why he does that. The vegan is fine, but I don't think anybody really prefers it. Get on it early if you want the tallow.
Good video Nick. I've noticed you go down on the left side of your neck and up on the right for the first pass, then you go down on both sides for pass and three (if you do a 3rd). Any reason for this? Also since you asked for soap recommendations, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Soap Commander Endurance. Since you like Courage and Passion the Endurance is right up your alley, I highly recommend getting the matching AFB as well. I think you'd also like Motivation which is a completely different side from SC and especially nice as it gets hotter out.
dude, you really should check out the Edwin Jagger's Chatsworth razor. I have the Ebony plastic handle one in my travel wash bag sitting in their leather case and travel super badger and the Barley for home use (as well as the stand with bowl and a matching silvertip brush). I highly recommend you bite the bullet and get the Barley because the handle is much heavier and it's engineered perfectly so that the balance point is where your sits while the plastic handle makes the razor very head heavy. It's worth every damn penny, I'd be happy to see what your impression on it is! I use it along with D.R.Harris pre, post and soap (which I found out about thanks to you). They make me a VERY proud Londoner :) PS. on my travels I use the D.R.Harris shaving cream but I mix it with their naturals range moisturizing cream. You need to try that. I kid you not, the liberties this mixture lets me take, it's ridiculous!! I will be using this mixture at home after I finish my soap because it's better and faster.
I'd like to see you do a review of a Shaver Heaven soap as well. I really like them - very similar (to me) to Catie's Bubbles. My favorite is Black Amber & Lavender but I also have Barbershop and Maple Sugar that are all great. Super stuff!
Great vid Nick! When you do so many passes though, do you ever feel like your face is really tight afterwards? Even after a moisturizer? That's the case for me even after 2 passes. I was advised that I might be applying too much pressure, so I ended up holding my DE89 at the tip and letting it "fall" so to speak. Helped, but I often get the same result even with only 2 passes. Any tips?
+Kaden Christensen I don't know if it's still relevant for you but I have had great results with it. It makes a dense, slick lather very easily and the scent is great.
Hey nick I'm looking at picking up a new brush and I kind of wanted the badger and blade one you use, but I think it is discontinued. I do see a couple on west coast shavings website though. Do you know if these are the same type of brush. They have a 22 mm knot with blonde boar hair?
I don't want this to sound weird but it seems like you were really relaxed during this episode. Was it late at night or something? It seemed like you were either tired or meditative haha. Regardless it seemed like you were in the zone and really enjoying this shave

Since you asked, I'd very much like to see Shaver Heaven being tested out. Thanks for your videos Nick, keep up the good work!
thanks for this review, it has been a long time that I waited for the review of edwin jagger soap ;)

Thanks for the heads up! I appreciate it. Definitely going to pick some up
Evan R Hey Evan thanks for the heads up. Would you happen to know if these Fougere's have a different ingredients list ? Hence the price tag of 35..

Evan R Thanks for the heads up. Love the B&M.
Ordered myself a Maggard MR7, i had a Maggard MR9 which was my first safety razor.
But wouldn't the pre shave be gone after the first pass? It seems like you would have to reapply with each pass if you want the added protection.
For some reason it lasts!
Thnx!
Nick, keep up the great work!!! How would you campare the Maggard MR7 to the Merkur 34C HD??
HI NICK,
good video! i have a Maggard MR8,good razor for the price these razors seem to be well made and a do a good job! thanks

Saw your update on Instagram, where you shaved with the Derby blades. Is that video coming up on TH-cam? :-)
Very soon!

i'm interested on your thoughts on shaver heaven, maybe that should be todays choice?

I've never used Edwin jagger soap... I've always been a little skeptical. Should I be?
