So I came up with a little story: I was eating dinner when the phone rang (0). I was a little worried because it was already late in the evening (1). I answered the phone and someone shoutet: "Are (2) you Sandy (3)?" "Yes, this is Sandy" "I was walking past your house today and your snake (4) just jumped out of the grass and bit me in the foot. It is really swollen and I don't know what to do about it." "Have you tried blowing (5) on it?" "No, wait, wow, that really helps. Also I am sorry for shouting at you. You know, Leo's (6) like me tend to have a bad temper. My brother told me I should put Chili (7) on the bite but it only made it worse. But he is just a trumpet (8) player and not a doctor so what does he know." The neighbour said goodbye and hung up and when I went back to the kitchen table I saw that all the while my pet snake was chewing (9) on my shrimp (10). 🐍🦐
I used to live in Beijing. I was the first (westerner/american) musician to sign a recording contract with the company ModernSky. I love your videos.. You're pronunciation is clear and delivered in a positive and uplifting manner.. I truly wish I had met someone like yourself while living abroad. I had many people trying to teach me Beijing Mandarin. Which is different from any other providenc. It has a lot "shluh" & "uuyrr" sounds which my friend and I titled the "Shlur". It's also very hard when people laugh and make jokes while you struggle to get every pronunciation correct. Thank you for taking the time to Record and post these lessons. Scott
I am currently reviewing for our oral exam tomorrow in Mandarin and I'm having a hard time reviewing it. So I browse TH-cam then I found this video. Very helpful! Xie xie!
I teach Chinese language in a creative and funny way. Know yourself as well as your opponents or partners. Learning a completely different language is funnier and more thought-provoking. Learning Chinese can help you get firsthand and comprehensive information and analysis about China. Chinese characters still retain their pictographic origins. Knowing what the characters look like originally can help understand the meanings and remember them vividly. I’ve spent about 100,000 hours studying English humor and Western culture, and many years studying Chinese culture and jokes. My native language is Chinese.
Jane is the one person that speaks clearly and slowly enough for me to learn, but I see she only has 5 videos?! Is there anywhere else to find more videos that she did????
I hope I am wrong but I read somewhere that she passed away. Like I say, I cannot confirm this but it is something I have definitely seen written on the internet.
This is such a great video! Good job Jane explaining the pronunciation! :) It's very useful to know the numbers in Mandarin even if you come to China for your holidays.
Hi professor Thank you so much for your priceless advice and interesting guidance. I really appreciate your job. I wish you peace and happiness under the sky of prosperity. All the best. Your follower from Algeria.
Thanks for this video Jane. I just had my 2 sessions of Mandarin class. I remember the nos. but im not quite sure if i get the right pronunciations yet. Knowing the equivalent sound in English makes it easier!!!
I love your videos and am so impressed with what a natural aptitude for teaching this language you show in your videos!! You are truly exceptional, you are concise, eloquent, and charming as you get your information across and thats really great to me because i like to learn the straight forward facts without any nonsense or useless 'filler' thrown in. You repeat enough to allow me to grasp precisely how you say each word and how i need to arrange my mouth to form the correct sounds and what not, repetition without over doing it and not boring your students is a fine line to walk but you manage it beautifully! I wasnt decided on chinese or french, but after watching just a few of your videos i am committed to learning Chinese now! I just had to tell you how you made that choice easy for me and commend you for what a great job youre doing! Keep up the good work and i will subscribe to your videos which will most likely become an extremely beneficial and necessary staple in my new 'learn the chinese language' regimen!! Im sure they will be a big help. Thanks again!!

Jane you are great...xiexie...even tho u r teaching us first 10 numbers...since I'm a slow learner...I told myself to jst learn to master the 1st five numbers... and work my way slowly to the rest... thanks again
Yo tambien hablo mandarin compas! Mandarin is so awesome to learn! I'm 🇲🇽 and I talk with the locals EVERYDAY Chinese people turn into family immediately and thank me always for knowing mandarin, they always think I either been their or I have a Chinese gf lol neither on both but soon! Viva Mexico y China! 🇲🇽🇨🇳
Im learning Chinese mandarin in school at Philippines and its my specialization so many things that i have learn, prove that im grade 7 I learn the Chàng Chèng as Great Wall of China Nînhâo - Hello (with respect) Mâo - Cat Tûdòu - Potato Huáng guā - cucumber Zhong guo ren -Chinese Fei lu bin - Philippines Renminbi - RWB The problem is i forgot some of the tones like 2nd tone and 4th tone
ty so much for putting both sign and pronunciation. I tend to use American Sign Language when county by fingers so this will take a bit to relearn. Also the pronunciations are perfect and make it easier to say correctly
Its pretty deep. Chinese language seems one of the hardest. If not the hardest. To learn. Im.trying to brush up in my hookienese chinese. Damn hard kuz it also has 8 tones. ... But ur spanish is widely worldwide used as well.
Mam but one person told me hand representation of 10 in chinese is closed fist. Is this true? I am confused cuz you told diff symbol for 10 , so which is correct?
Really well done! The hand gestures, the phonetic spellings, the tone accentuation...really well done!
So I came up with a little story:
I was eating dinner when the phone rang (0). I was a little worried because it was already late in the evening (1). I answered the phone and someone shoutet: "Are (2) you Sandy (3)?" "Yes, this is Sandy" "I was walking past your house today and your snake (4) just jumped out of the grass and bit me in the foot. It is really swollen and I don't know what to do about it." The neighbour said goodbye and hung up and when I went back to the kitchen table I saw that all the while my pet snake was chewing (9) on my shrimp (10). 🐍🦐
Great effort, but I think I'd be faster learning the 10 numbers, rather than this massive long text ^^
This helped me
Good attempt, but that makes it harder to remember lol
That's wonderful you rock with that
Wth...this is so underrated 🥺🥺
