  • The TCS are at TED HQ for a Bank Holiday May Day special. I know what you are all thinking, what are the TCS doing here? Well, you have to remember that the BBMF operate individually to the Typhoon sorties and can fly on weekends and bank holidays too. They are a display team after all which means that if a flypast is going to go ahead, then no matter what Coningsby aerodrome is doing, the BBMF still need to display.
    For the Supermarince Spitfire: • LIVE MAY DAY BANK HOLI...
    What is the BBMF?
    The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) operates from RAF Coningsby. The mission of the RAF BBMF is to maintain the priceless artefacts of our national heritage in airworthy condition in order to commemorate those who have fallen in the service of this country. The RAF BBMF also serves to promote the modern day Air Force and to inspire the future generations.
    The Flight operates six Spitfires, two Hurricanes, a Lancaster, a C47 Dakota, and two Chipmunk aircraft (primarily for training). The aircraft are flown by regular RAF Aircrew. These aircraft can be regularly seen in the skies over the UK from May to September each year. They are flown to celebrate and commemorate public and military events from State occasions such as Trooping the Colour to major airshows and flypasts for public events. His Royal Highness Prince William, Prince of Wales, is the Patron for the BBMF.
    HISTORY
    The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) was inaugurated on 11 July 1957 at RAF Biggin Hill. It was initially called the RAF Historic Aircraft Flight and consisted of three PR Mk XIX Spitfires and the RAF’s last airworthy Hurricane, LF363. It was then renamed to be the Battle of Britain Flight before a !nal renaming in 1969 to what it is known as today, BBMF. Between 1959 and 1965 the flight had one Spit!re (PM631) and one Hurricane (LF363) on its strength.
    Now, as a ‘museum without walls’, it maintains twelve historic and irreplaceable aircraft: an Avro Lancaster, a C-47 Dakota, six Spitfires, two Hurricanes and two de Havilland Chipmunk training aircraft.
    The BBMF is a regular RAF unit, manned by service personnel and funded by the Ministry of Defence.
    MOTTO
    “Lest We Forget”
    The Lest We Forget motto of the RAF BBMF re"ects our mission and honours the thousands of men and women, in the air and on the ground, that gave their lives for this country in the noble pursuit of freedom.

    Yes TCS one of the brilliant oldies!! But a real goodie! Real royalty, real beauty. Lancaster with that Merlin Overture. Speechless you sounded Ted and Nikos.. What a stroke of luck. Watching chat too Arjen Av in green days! Lol 😆 some other names I recognise too.
    Hooray!! For your PTii. Im sure you'll remember this. Was it one of your 1st Lancaster streams? That's so awesome.. lovely to watch tonight with no stream today (23/11/23) no RAF Leeming flying.. But this is worth it, to see practice and letting her stretch her legs, The wonderful Lancaster. Where she should be - Flying and making people smile and croon in admiration. Well done! TCS

    • @TedConingsby
      @TedConingsby  ปีที่แล้ว

      We reflected after the stream today and just imagined and went into deep thought... many (and we mean many...never came home). We've often thought that on a mission, they would have known that some would not come home. Bomber Command had the highest loses...Lest we forget brother

    • @typhoon123

    None of us today can even imagine the sound of hundreds of these magnificent aircraft going off each night fully loaded. The sound must have been incredible.
    People forget in all the Yank media hype that the Lancaster was the most capable air bomber of WWII. And yes I include the B-29. The Lancaster was the fall back aircraft for the A Bomb attacks because the B-29 was in such trouble and still had to use the Lancaster bomb bay stowage and release kit to deliver the two A Bombs.
