- It is PDA at RAF Coningsby and the 2023 Typhoon Display Team and the BBMF aircraft are ALL out for their their displays Flt Lt Matt Brighty, callsign 'ANARCHY1' is not only going to smash out his solo display, but will be in formation with, yes, it is not a typo, the AVRO LANCASTER! PDA (Public Display Authority) means that the impressive sequences of the aircraft over the home base RAF Coningsby are audited. This is it...the hard deck is van skimming 100ft. But this is not all, the Lancaster, Hurricanes and Spitfires were also up for the PDA too.

Brighty is ferociously impressive and he really shows off the manoeuvrability of the Eurofighter Typhoon.The PDA is basically his audited display, his examination, and if he passes will be given his PDA, the authority and clearance to display at airshows and festivals.
Air Officer Commanding 1 Group will award a PDA to 1 Gp display assets. These include both the Typhoon Display Team and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The PDA for the Red Arrows is awarded by AOC 22 Group.
Brighty said to the TCS that "keep the display sequence more tight" and aims to keep the sequence in a more compact space. This will possibly mean that high speed passes may not be present in the sequences in order to keep the manoeuvres confound to a tighter space.

RAF Typhoon display pilots are selected from 29 Squadron, which is the OCU (Operational Conversion Unit) at RAF Coningsby. 'Brighty' has also flown with XI(F) Squadron, which is one of two front-line combat ready squadrons at Coningsby.
Brighty had also been involved in a special WWII flypast in honour of Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC. Brighty flew the pilot wings of Wg Cdr Guy Gibson in his Typhoon around Lincoln on the 24th January 2022. Gibson flew most of his operations from Scampton and Coningsby.
The wings were on a uniform that was left at RAF Coningsby aft Wg Cdr Guy Gibson VC was killed in action in 1944. Gibson helped form 617 Squadron (more famously renowned as 'the dam busters') during early 1943 for the specialised and extraordinary perilous pursuit of Op. Chastise, using the 'bouncing bomb' to breach the dams in Germany's Rhur Valley during the nights of the 16th and 17th of May 1943. What an honour for Brighty to fly the very wings of Wg Cdr Gibson in his Typhoon...

WHAT a day you had yesterday (18 May)...After Brighty's amazing displays, then come the Spitfires, Hurricanes, and the Lancaster...Wow! What music! 6 Merlins singing in perfect harmony when the Spits and Hurricanes formed-up on the Lanc...! And then out comes the Lancaster again, with Brighty in tow in a Typhoon.... never seen that before, a Typhoon almost 'walking' behind the Lanc in perfect step! And then after he did the break again and displayed once more, it was an incredible sequence of events...What pilots; what planes, what sounds, and for a third time.... that incredible 'Phoon landing! Nose down for several thousand feet, and then glide it in like a leaf......HOW?? Stunning control by a Master of his trade!

Just a fun fact not really related to bomber command but the Us 8th aiforce when they decided to use fighter escorts.The P51,s typically couldnt fly economically as the B17,s or B24,s as slowly.The result was they had to fly in zig zag above the bombers.They used droptanks of petrol essentially made from a form of cardboard.
Went with my missus to see Attack on the Sorpe at Kinema in the woods, on the way there we could clearly see the Lanc with a typhoon tucked in. Was wondering what they had planned.

Hello, are they flying the Lancaster and Spitfire again Tomorrow Friday 19th
The spitfire and hurricane have been flying over my house today. The Lancaster went right over a couple of nights ago.
Wonder if they got the idea from VeRA flying with a CF-18
I don’t think so as the Lancaster PA474 and Typhoon formation was done in 2016 also. The VeRA / F18 was done in 2018 I think.
