Tip for watchers: It's usually better to make difficult changes (like removing aquilae and purity seals) before assembly so you don't have to worry about: • not being able to reach a spot • accidentally breaking something • removing too much and needing to repair in the same difficult circumstances
Really great tips mate, cheers! Honestly something I should mention in the future if memory doesn't falter. Working on those arms, especially the claw, would have been a nightmare if it was assembled.
IRON WITHIN! Cheers mate! Honestly been meaning to give them a go for a while now. My dog had to wear a cone with hazard stripes this week, decided if he joined the Iron Warriors, it's time to paint one 😄.
Iron Warriors always look great kitbashed with loyalists, this is because they reluctantly serve Chaos and don't appreciate mutations and kitschy trim.
That's fantastic to hear, I was very critical of it at first but after the weathering I think it worked out better than I initially thought. Thank you!
For anyone trying to criticise the dull knife. he is using it in a manner which is very controlled and positioned so it cannot hit his finger. midwinterminis has a video explaining it. many kitbashers and professionals use dull scalpels. the issue you're talking about happens when someone uses a dull knife THINKING that the knife is sharp. that's when accidents happen
I believe criticism is very healthy, and in this situation, it has brought up some excellent points. However, there seems to have been a significant misunderstanding regarding the term 'dull.' I hoped that mentioning the butter knife part would reinforce the idea. The edge has been sanded smooth; it can't really cut. It works with plastic mainly because plastic is a stronger material, allowing the 'knife' to work its way in. Similarly, you can technically scrape miniature plastic with a spoon (I have tried this before). Using a sharp one so close to your fingers, not to mention I sometimes just grab the blade, would indeed 'end badly,' as I mentioned.
Abosultely awesome job, I'm definitely gonna give Exhaust Manifold a go if I ever paint Iron Warrios. The minis turned out killer with the kitbashing, awesome work.
Cheers! Honestly the thought of decals didn't really cross my mind, I have a very love/hate relationship with those. Love the way they look, hate ever having to deal with them 😄
Very impressive, also if I generally paint the head separately from the main body, and then glue it just before the varnish, at least with this kind of figures.👍
Thank you! I'm personally not a fan of the sub assembly process, I tend to avoid it if I can. However It's definitely the best way to achieve the best result.
Very funny for me to get this in my recommendations when I've been doing something kinda like this - I had some Cataphractii sitting around alongside three Indomitus terminators and I just kinda went "Fuck it, let's see how these look combined!" And man, Cataphractii arms look *great* on the Indomitus body. Very big, imposing figure. Also managed to fit some spare Possessed bits on, since I'm kitbashing a homebrew Chaos/renegade warband that leans pretty far into that sorta thing.
TH-cam has it's mystical ways :D Yeah it's fantastic that GW has a similar scale on all their updated models, makes it much easier to kitbash awesome ideas.
My personal opinion: Hazard stripes on greaves: OK. Hazard stripes on power first: OK. Hazard stripes on shoulder pad: OK. Hazard stripes on all three: Not OK! I would replace some with squad, and/or army markings. Aside from that, I think this conversion turned out BRILLIANT!
That's great to hear, I thought the over doing it part might have spoiled it entirely. I think it might have worked better if that mini had a small knee pad, instead of needing to cover the entire leg.
I guess one way to deal with the purity seals could be making them Word Bearers. Edit: and you could probably get away with keeping the insignia if you gone with them being in a recently corrupted chapter.
Thank you so much for the compliment! The Artists in Golden Demon are honestly at a whole other level, I think my wonky lines would get me kicked out of the building 😄
I recently took one of the deathwing Knight terminators that are the miniature of the month and converted it into a loyalist iron warrior from one of the alternative heresies because that means I still get to play iron warriors but I don't have to paint up all the nasty little trim that comes on so many chaos models and because of rules I can play them as chaos or loyalist I just have to still use the chaos rules for the gameplay and I had to get rid of a bunch of details like the Crux terminatus and the dark Angels chest symbol thankfully I was able to use the power sword arm and my brother was nice enough to let me get a storm bolter arm for the left arm instead so I didn't have to use the big shield and I can use that for when I work on my grey Knight kaldor Draigo equivalent for my Homebrew 11th legion the war foxes using customized grey knights that I still have to play with grey Knight rules and they have the Mecca wolf heads from the space wolves for the Horus heresy upgrade kit and I have to make some epoxy putty fox tails for every single member of the army because like how the black dragons grow bones out of their bodies that sometimes can be used as weapons the war foxes literally have a extended tailbone that look like a Fox's tail and thankfully I only have to make like five or six different designs for the position of the tale and I can use some blue stuff to make copies of them so I don't have to sculpt like 40 tails and I can use the blue stuff to copy the fox wolf heads as well although my brother did find a file for them that he printed out for his space wolves so he can always print out more heads for me as well
That sounds amazing, great job coming up with such an interesting idea for them. I'm a bit surprised they had that awesome model as the mini of the month, but also very lucky on the timing!
Oh neat! I used that chain tabard thing to make my oldschool khorne berserker champion stand out, i just hacksawed a right angled depression at the top then used a bit of sprue goo to fill it around the crotch
It's such a nice bit, and it's not connected to anything. There are so many cool primaris parts I would really love to have as their own separate bit. Do you by chance know what kit it's from by the way ?
Telling people to use a dull hobby knife is really bad advice. Blades are more likely to slip and cut the user when dull. Statistically a sharp knife is safer.
I came here to say exactly that. A sharp knife and attention is better than a dull knife. Plastic is tougher than your skin - whatever force you are applying to cut plastic (with a knife of whatever sharpness) WILL cut your skin. The more force you apply, the less control you have and the more likely something is to suddenly "give" and send a blade going where it shouldn't. Sharp knife requires very little pressure and means you have total control.
Went down here to comment the exact same thing. A dull blade is waaaaves more dangerous then a sharp one. I'm only ever cut myself on older blades. I also cut towards myself and I know it's taboo but i couldn't care less lol. We have more muscles in our wrists and arms to control cutting towards ourselves than away; you gain more control (this part isn't directed to you, just I'm just yapping).
@@tomfrommicromanagementYep - the whole idea of "cutting away" is a simplistic one I wouldn't recommend. One should cut so the natural movement of the knife DOES NOT intersect with any part of yourself (or anything else you don't want to cut!) but cutting away from yourself sometimes means you have a lot less control. Using both hands and a VERY sharp blade and bracing everything carefully means you can have a lot of control.
I did consider making the second one in alternative colors like Black Legion colors, but it felt like every other Chaos Legion would have a lot more ornaments on their armor. I think converting the new Captain in Terminator Armor would create a much more interesting Black Legion terminator. This is possibly something to revisit in the future. Cheers!
I actually just recently used the new Terminators and Captain in Terminator Armour from Leviathan to make a squad of Chaos Terminators and a Chaos Lord for my Night Lords! Just finished painting the squad and am currently painting the Lord as I watch this video. DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!!
Your fingerprint comment gave me an idea... what if you did a model where you put fingerprints all over it on purpose? like that one shield from elden ring?
I did try that at first, but their arms are just not as long. Giving them almost a t-rex feeling on the indomitus pattern. Putting them side by side the difference is about what you would see between a primaris and first born, which is a bit odd given how recent their release was.
Great conversion! Might just do this for my chaos boys. Just some minor C&C, watch your videos back in the edit, your audio cut out mid word/sentence a few times in this video
Thanks mate! Yeah there was a few audio problems that came from a weird exporting issue. Unfortunately I didn't catch them until the video was uploaded. Editing is one hell of a beast for sure.
I will say, a general recommendation for knives is a sharper knife is safer some of the work your doing would be better with a sharp blade. The issue is that you have you apply more pressure which can force the knife to slip or fly off. The big issue is when you swap blades eventually, then being used to more pressure being required and accidentally hurting yourself
I might consider converting my Rise of the Orks Terminators into Plague Marine Terminators Any suggestions on how I could convert them and what to run them as?
I just have to say, a dull blade is more dangerous than a sharp one. More pressure has to be exerted to get the same result as a sharp one, and no matter if you cut towards yourself or away; there is a major risk of hurting yourself.
It is something I follow myself when it comes to cooking. However, I did find that when it comes to minis, using one of those when they are sharp often resulted in injury. The one I use is more or less entirely dull, and as a result, it can't cut. It definitely felt more important to address my knife being incredibly dull-enough to hold firmly with two fingers. The way I was using it in the video would probably be incredibly unsafe with a sharp one. If you find that a sharp one works better, it's entirely valid. I think it's definitely a scenario where different uses and approaches can work. However, I would also use it entirely differently if that knife had any sharpness.
I have most accidents with blint blades since you use more force to cut. Controled cuts (still towards your thumb, using your other thumb as a buffer) is the safer way, like with food prep
It seems that this is definitely a topic with a wide range of experiences. I think I should have made it clearer that I was addressing the issue of the blade being entirely dull, especially in the specific way I used it in the video. Using a sharp knife is entirely valid, but I would never use one in the same way as demonstrated. I would avoid making so many cuts towards myself, not to mention keeping my fingers well clear of the blade. I have used sharp blades before, and indeed, as they became duller, they would become more unpredictable. However, in my specific instance, it's well past the point of having the ability to make a cut. I do believe that using well-sharpened knives is way better when it comes to cooking.
When you need to paint a large number of units, helmets are definitely much faster. However, I do enjoy seeing a face here and there, as it gives an interesting visual contrast by showing a human inside what sometimes seems like an automaton.
@@BeepBoop2221 Steel is surprisingly neutral. I think you could add a tiny amount ( just a little on the brush ) of umber ink or contrast color and warm it up a bit.
I used to have that same feeling, "Well, better be extra careful, so I can still use my fingers to count to 10". Endless cuts, with one really bad one that had me in a bit of a panic 😅. Sanded down this one to a nice smooth surface and haven't had a cut from it since, just a lot more effort to scrape things off.
I do think that's 100% true and something I practice with kitchen knives. However, with plastic, I've personally found it to be a different situation. I hoped that mentioning the part about the butter knife would reinforce the idea of it being 'Dull'. The edge has been sanded smooth; it can't really cut. It works with plastic mainly because plastic is a stronger material, allowing the 'edge' to work its way in.
yeah they are all labeled that way, but thats realy not an relevant info, if u know how to sand things or sharpen an knife. start with a low number and go as high as u want until u like that finish 😄
I still think the head looks awesome, even without the ponytail. However, within the context of the miniature, it didn't give the look I was hoping for. That made me realize that the original head worked better.
Nice work, but I have to say hazard stripes always drive me crazy in alternate universe settings. Why would they come up with the exact same iconography that we did? It's just one of those things that always takes me out of the fantasy.
Cheers mate! 😄I have some similar pet peeves with a few things in scifi. I think it does make a bit of sense with hazard stripes, with them being aimed at human part of out brain that recognizes stripes ( tigers, hyenas, wasps, bees...etc) as a danger and warning.
@@AnotherDayMiniatures - Maybe there's something to what you say, but still, it could be any color. But everyone always does black and yellow, not black and red, not white and orange. It's just... so unmistakably exactly what we chose on our version of 20th century Earth... 🤷🏾
@@AnotherDayMiniatures I’ve never heard a GW employee not pronounce Abbadon as Ab-ba-don. Audiobooks…well tbf they don’t get paid to care they just get paid to narrate.
sorry dont wanna be the "akchually" guy but it safer to use sharper blades rather than dull ones..with sharp ones u need minimal force so u have a lot more precise control while dulls may need to be used quite hardly and when u get cut the sharp will leave a more even, cleaner cut which can heal better, while dull blades cause more tissue damage and might leave tiny chunks of dirt or plastic due to the roll and nicks in the blade in your body, raising the chance of an infection...source: trust me im a cook
It's absolutely valid, and not at all an "akchually" moment. I definitely agree that it's safer to use sharp knives instead of poorly sharpened ones, I personally practice that with my kitchen knives. However the one I use for my hobby is literally dull, its been sanded smooth. That's why I feel so comfortable holding it with both fingers. Plastic does have a tendency to 'grip' the blade, as you described, especially if it's not smooth or is poorly sharpened. The blade has more ridges for the plastic to catch on and get trapped. Miniature plastic is smooth enough that you can literally scrape details off with a spoon (not joking). Personally I found that using something much thinner than a spoon, while still dull, has great results while almost eliminating the risk of injury.
I would be happy if people start hand freeing actual chapter symbols or at least put some transfer on those models. the paintjob is nice but it still feels meh
Gotta downvote for the dull blade comment. Really cool video otherwise, but this is genuinely dangerous misinformation. I think you should either edit it out or at least put in a disclaimer.

Include the word 'Very' in there, and as long as you're taking shots of water, you'll stay very well hydrated ;)
what grit is that sandpaper? asking for a friend
I know what I said, but I did find out it's literally written on the back 😄 1000
yeah they are all labeled that way, but thats realy not an relevant info, if u know how to sand things or sharpen an knife. start with a low number and go as high as u want until u like that finish 😄
"I found this really cool head with a ponytail. Then i cut the ponytail off. Then i didn't like it anymore"
wow1
Cheers!

Let's be honest, if they can't decide how to pronounce 'Abaddon' in all the audiobooks and videos, I'm safe with this one 😅.
@@AnotherDayMiniatures I’ve never heard a GW employee not pronounce Abbadon as Ab-ba-don. Audiobooks…well tbf they don’t get paid to care they just get paid to narrate.
The first time I actually heard someone say "A Badon" was the official Warhammer painting tutorial. 😄
@@AnotherDayMiniatures lol
sorry dont wanna be the "akchually" guy but it safer to use sharper blades rather than dull ones..with sharp ones u need minimal force so u have a lot more precise control while dulls may need to be used quite hardly and when u get cut the sharp will leave a more even, cleaner cut which can heal better, while dull blades cause more tissue damage and might leave tiny chunks of dirt or plastic due to the roll and nicks in the blade in your body, raising the chance of an infection...source: trust me im a cook
DO NOT USE A SHARP KNIFE LISTEN TO HIM I JUST GOT BACK FROM THE HOSPITAL FOR ALMOST CUTTING MY FINGER OFF.
That sounds awful, hope you have a swift recovery soon mate.
@@AnotherDayMiniatures i only have 383247632647843267 fingers now
Remember Iron Warriors armor isn't iron, it's ceramite. It too is painted.
Bad head choice, Iron Warriors actually wear their damn helmets
Let's imagine that the helmet is on, and we are seeing through the helmet 😉
Gotta downvote for the dull blade comment. Really cool video otherwise, but this is genuinely dangerous misinformation. I think you should either edit it out or at least put in a disclaimer.
Use a dull knife? Are you kidding? Terrible advice.
that "weathering effect" is how I used to "camoflague" battle-tech mechs. Congratulations on finding the technique... decades later. heretic.
I think I can now add 1 toughness to them and say it's due to their "camoflague" 😄
@@AnotherDayMiniatures that makes more sense than anything Uncle GW has come up with, so I say go with it... in your heresy.
Damn, you’re a really good painter
Thank you so much! 😀
