      That is awesome! My father was an engineer for a speaker company called Alumapro when I was growing up. So he was always inspired by Dr. Bose's theories.
      That's the reason I am a Bose fan! Not because of the name, products, claims, and marketing. Dr. Bose was so innovative and a pioneer in audio technology. I always get the chills thinking about what he did with the company before passing away. What a gift for MIT.

    2:30 The foam you are talking about that introduced the world to "foam rot" is polyester foam, which goes bad after about 10 years because of exposure to moisture in the air causing hydrolysis in the polymer that breaks it down over time. Newer foam is made from a material called polyether, which is slightly less UV resistant than polyester but much more moisture resistant, so foam surrounds can last 20 years and longer. Polyether foam is a good material because the surrounds can compress and stretch in addition to flexing, so they produce surrounds that are more mechanically stable at high excursions where the foam roll is undergoing larger excursions. An EPDM rubber roll is still a little bit better but it has to be thicker and heavier to avoid buckling effects, because while rubber flexes, it does not as easily compress because it doesn't have any air cells inside it, while foam does.

    Say what you want, been a Sound Man 30 years now, Did sound for bands, DJs, Entertainers crowds over 5,000 people. Unless you have the Bose F1 in the C position don't even turn them on, C works best with the Bose F1, I had Crate, Roland, Cerwin Vega, Peavey, JBL, Behringer, Eelector-Voice, Yorkville, Makie, QSC, Bose L1 and others. Walk into any music store and listen in the c position. I did Not hear any speakers sound that! good for that size. Even the Bose 12" tops blew me away. Go hear them side by side. Sexy and WOW! Subs also WOW!

    Have you actually heard the F1 subwoofer? I think it's probably the best sub I have heard for the size and weight. It can bang with most 18" subs. IMO, it's pretty close to my previous KW181. The KW was still slightly louder. I don't think many powered subs that weigh under 60lbs has the output that these do.

    I'm working on getting a 2nd set of f1 subs, I was kind of thinking about putting 2 18" subs with this system then i got told about drop out areas so i went back to the original idea of just a second set of f1 subs because ... my first decision to get the f1 system is that i wanted total portability and something one person can set up quick .. I also wanted light weight , a good sound , and a brand name behind it so if doing weddings for dj service it would be on the up scale side of speaker systems .. bose f1 system hit the mark on all of the points .. will it be the best system for every one ? maybe not .. but when one gets older you have to think about ease on the body and back .. I will not have to pay some one to help with the set up .. will the bass be equal to a chest thumping 18 I doubt it .. but so long as i can fill the room with bass I will be satisfied bose has always done things a little different . something large sounding from a small package .. I only own bose speakers in the house , and i am quite fine with the sound I get .. so i have decided to just run a second set of bose subs . maybe i can pair them up for a bit more kick and maybe i can place the subs across the front of the stage to fill in more even sub in the room for down front .. and i might not need to be running them all so loud to cover the room

    Why not have the best of both worlds. Use the Bose to reproduce frequencies below what the B2 can reproduce then use the B2 for the rest of the bass frequencies. That way you still have that punch of the B2 subs with the lower bass extension of the Bose.

    Bose should make a new version of this for people who just like their subs not their top boxes ,but with m20 sub pole hole & not as tall make it lower but this time with dual 12” drivers and even if it increases the weight to 30 kg’s that’s still quite acceptable if they get even better performance out of them than the F1’s.

    I've setup and run sound for a church, a few theaters, and a huge youth camp. I've used JBL, EV, Community, Pro Bose, and some unbranded line arrays and some diy subs. The F1 looks very well designed but is too small for most of those venues. It would be much better in a crowded restaurant or for private parties where there's not much space. Bose does make decent stuff for larger rooms but only for speech and tame music. Their idea is to get the most out of the cheapest drivers. Little full range 4 inch drivers with 1mm Xmax are driven to their limit. The have distortion and have bad dispersion. Their line arrays have only a foot or so of drivers. There's almost no throw. If Bose made larger format speakers, they'd be incredible but alas, they try to adapt their consumer stuff for pro audio.

      Hi there! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the amount of bass that the subs provide. I would say they would be comparable in volume and punch to EV’s EKX18p sub. Though that sub cost less than the F1, it is much larger and heavier. I don’t think there is anything in the market that can compete with the F1 for its size & weight. It puts the QSC Ksub to shame, though the KW181 18” is still slightly louder than the F1. I hope this helps...

    The word is EXCURSION .When you use words like "tubby" you make it seem as though they sound bad. the further the cones can travel , the lower and louder they can play, the other reasons they may sound "DEEPER" may be the box tuning and equalization curve which is programmed into the amplifier.I still prefer the sound of a good old 18" subwoofer, but Ilike that Bose isn't afraid to try something different. By running dual 10s you effectively get a similar amount of cone surface to that of a 15" but a much quicker ,more articulate and louder bass than if you were to run a single 15". BTW most single or dual 18" subwoofers when properly tuned and driven with clean power are not "tubby" they just play much lower frequencies than smaller subs.Please brush up on your terminology.

    Its bad ,even in the PA they fail. My subwoofer have rubber surround and is a lot stiffer . Bose lost it . Now you Pay for the name. Not for the qaulity ... have fun

    • @Acoustic_Theory
      @Acoustic_Theory 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The stiffness of the surround is not the measure of the quality of a driver. It is actually better for the dynamic balancing of a driver for most of the stiffness to come from the spider, not the surround, because the concentrated mass in the voice coil is cantilevered behind the spider, so the spider needs to be able to support and center that mass in the magnetic gap as it moves through large excursions. Also, regarding rubber vs. foam, modern foam surrounds last about 20 years or longer if stored out of UV and humidity. That woofer appears to be OEM for Bose by Tymphany, based on the basket design, the type of glue used, and the look of some of the labeling. Tymphany is an excellent OEM with a great track record and well designed/made drivers.

      You've always paid for the name Bose. They certainly aren't know for using quality material when it comes to their speakers.

      I use my F1 system for my rock band, playing small clubs and am very happy with the sound, 2 sets would be better, but I have and have had no complaints. Awesome little PA.

    Whats that thing selling vor 1000 bucks and claims 1000Watts ? Joking or what just seeing that cheap basket, small port and kinda small magnet i guess it has not even a 3 inch coil and won´t handle 500Watts per driver but yae typical boxe product with cheap components selling for way to high prices

      You clearly know nothing about the Bose F1 PA speakers. The subs and other speaker components in the series are developed and manufactured by Tymphany. Far from garbage.

  • @Roof_Pizza
    @Roof_Pizza 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Looks like garbage tbh. Hahahaha, I just looked at their own specs. Plays all the way down to 38 hertz? Really? Most modern subs go below 20 hertz. Yeah, garbage

    • @horhey4063
      @horhey4063 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      a lot of PA subwoofers on the market are usually tuned to 35hz to 40hz. Mostly home theater subwoofers are tuned to 20hz and lower for LFE use usually.

      Well yeah if you want to carry 4 or 6 18" PA subwoofers and set them up properly with multiple digital crossovers you'd get 25Hz but you'd be REALLY lucky
