    Seeing your son put what I think are strawberries into the cubbie of his tractor, made me smile 🙂 my 4 yo grandson puts everything he treasures into what we call the "trunk" of his "bike", his tricycle, it's sometimes hilarious, and always adorable. I say, these simple opportunities to observe our children content, and joyful are the real spice of life. These children are the treasure of our lives, the treasure of our country's future. Your children are getting a valuable education about food and where it comes from.

    you should harvest the glads corms, store them for the winter (easy to do) and plant them back in the spring. So that you can get back the original investment. Usually, the flowers become more and more beautiful as the years go by (as long as you fertilize after harvesting the flower).

    • @RTCPhotoWork
      @RTCPhotoWork 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, they overwinter inside after possibly growing baby corms for more flowers next season. It would be worth the time to dig them up and store them.

    Loved the bouquet building segment with Ian, it shows how much skill goes into making the bouquets match the vision and the techniques you use to do so! Enjoying the longer videos. Would love to see you guys include a meal you cook or simple dish with your fresh farm food each week to give people ideas of local food they could make from the farmer's market or home grown produce. Also a bit about what you are preserving or canning each week in your busy schedules so you have some for winter. I think this would help give some insight into your week and help promote local food even more :)
    Also definitely team "veggies as filler," love that you get multiple uses out of your crops for the market!

      We are so busy with the farm, that we don't do any sort of canning anymore. We throw whole tomatoes into the freezer, and also bags of leftover shishitos. And we freeze fresh fruit for winter.

    A little tip to bind the bouquets together: get your rubber band around some stems, rather high, do a tour and a half and end putting it around some other stems, lower this time. You can easily get your bands around every bouquet you make!
    Good luck to the two of you, hope you'll have a bit of rain soon...

    The accepted hardiness zone for the classic Grandiflora gladioli (your typical garden glad) is zone 8, but it’s well known that by covering them with a good mulch, you can keep them alive in zones 6 and 7. But what’s more surprising is that sometimes (and there is no guarantee!), they survive the winter zones 4 and 5, even zone 3 with only the slightest bit of protection.
