I'm not a pro and I'm not an old angler but I 100% agree with this, my local club has turned into who can afford it and who can't and it's tough to compete without it
A similar thing happened in professional poker. For years the game was accessible professionally if you put the work in and dedicated yourself to the game. Computer simulations occurred when the money got large enough, all of the decisions became deeply understood mathematical formulas, and the game lost most of the amateur money and interest. Fishing needs to stay relatable to the average fisherman, who doesn't have livescope and wants to throw topwater and watch the explosion, or have the mystery of what will happen on each cast.
There at the end you threw that in about Crappie guys going to "decimate the fisheries" with Livescope. Randy you are so wrong!! I am a Crappie guy and I dont use Livescope, never have used Livescope, and no plans to ever use Livescope. I can tell you that I fish around guys using Livescope 2-3 times a week and I catch 10 fish to their 1 nearly every time. The electronics dont make the fisherman. I cant recall one single time where a guy outfished me with Livescope. Its not magic. In the hands of a pro yes it makes them better, but most people will not use thier Livescope enough to get that good with it. I have never seen so many grown men crying about how another man goes about catching fish in my life as I have seen on this channel. Some people may use Livescope as a crutch to become a better fisherman, but there are even more people that blame it for the reason they cant compete anymore. Livescope at the big bad boogeyman that is going to end fishing as we know it. Get a grip people!!
I've talked to a ton of crappie anglers on stockton lake here in missouri. They tell me it takes them 30 minutes at most to get their limits, where before LS, if they caught one limit once a month after fishing all day it was good. Livescope is going to kill crappie fishing eventually
Since there is so much cheating anyways, you figure even if FFS was banned, guys would figure a way to still use it. But I agree, there is a large group of anglers that wouldn't amount to much w/o using FFS..That speaks volumes..
My brother hit me in my soul a while back on this issue…we’re both trout fisherman but he’s almost exclusively a trout/fly rod guy. He was talking about how superior high level fly fishing is as a pursuit, solely based on the fact that you’re watching fish, using your intuition and eyes. I couldn’t argue. He’s right. That’s how high level bass fishing USED to be…that’s the most painful part, I think.
The tournament organizations are not FORCING them to use it. It's the other anglers. They use it because everyone else does so u have toto compete. If all anglers stopped using it the tournament organizations couldn't do anything about it. It's completely up to the anglers
A couple of questions. Were you against 2D sonar when it came out and replaced flashers? If not why. Second , you said " you can see fish on Livescope and manipulate the bait to get them to bite. " How is that different than cruising the bank or a flat and casting to fish you see on a bed and manipulating your lure to get it to bite?
Most of us are fishing weekend events not pro level tournaments. At the club level I can run up the river and flip a black and blue jig and be competitive. For lots of weekend anglers all the technology is just information overload and it probably hurts them more than helps.
Just confuses me more!! I end up grabbing a Rage Tail and flipping. Catch ratio goes way up, and I get to enjoy the scenery!! (FFS has helped me drop kick schools of smallmouth on Cumberland though, lol)
I couldn't agree more Randy. I like to think of it like steroids for the fishing industry. If everyone is using steroids the natural guys just can't compete.
Why not be honest with your followers and subscribers and just admit Seth has the freedom to say what other professional anglers are under contract "not" to say. Livescope is a situational tool at best and some of the guys that stand on stage and say "i caught every fish on ffs" are under contract to say that. Look at the post interview of the classic; the top anglers said FFS played no role. It is, in fact, a tool that is here to stay because of money and in professional fishing guys are catching fish to pay the bills. The game of fishing has evolved far beyond just livescope. With baits today and the amount of people fishing, the days of throwing a black and blue jig and catching numbers are over. Live scope technology is only going to advance, there is to much money involved. Witch will keep you in business here on TH-cam, I bought my boat with livescope already on it and have never used it for bass I like to flip docks etc. but have been looking for brush piles for crappie. The limits of crappie I have caught this year where the old fashioned way no forward sonar at all .
I think a lot of the younger anglers would be absolutely lost without it. Fact, the guys that are doing good consistently in tournaments would fall off the chart without it.
Yeah I know what you mean. Back in March many anglers struggled at the BassPro Douglas/Cherokee Lakes tournament. Mainly from water temp. being warm during practice then on Day1 a cold front had anglers fishing in upper 30 degree temps. I heard the commentators saying some of the anglers were upset with the fishing on Day1 & 2. I imagine some of them were the livescopers who were complaining but Keith Poche won in the end.

The biggest part of the game is locating the fish. Using Livescope is basically catching. It's not even what the sport of fishing is all about. No different than TH-camrs showing specific locations on social media.
No longer is it a "bass master"....it's a Live Scope Sonar Master. Sure, you can catch the fish without using the device...it just takes longer to hone in on the current pattern. Fishing pre-planted brush piles has been going on as long as I can remember. The personality of bass fishing has been reduced to just like hunting a deer or a hog over a feeder. Just add lots of money, and you too can participate in the Bass Master parade of electronics. BTW, I'm not disliking technology...there is a time and place for everything under the Sun. Seasonal patterns will still hold sway. Pre-planned grass kills and Municipal water supplies are a "Golf Course" like managed resource. So many variables to work around. It all boils down to whom you are connected with, receiving the correct information from fellow anglers, (which in some circles is referred to as collusion). We all design our bass fishing relationships over time.
I saw the clip of Rick Clunn saying the fish will adjust to it like they adjust to everything else anglers do but i saw another video of Jason Christie saying how can they adjust to it if you can see them before they see you
Boats are getting more and more expensive and fishing is getting tougher and tougher. Whats the future look like? Is this the best bass fishing will ever be. Anyone here caught 100k fish in your boat? Dollar or more a fish?! it's too just expensive.

I think there shouldn't be any practice days if you intend to use forward facing sonar. You should have to sign a pre tournament form stating your intentions as to whether or not your going to use it. I know you dont know if you are going to use it or not until you get on the water but that can be another game plan for you to decide.
Shouldn’t be practice days in tournaments period. It adds to the heat down the lakes take and it surely hurts the overall production of the tourney anglers bags.
100% agree with you Randy. Live sonar has no business being in pro bass fishing. Technology is getting out of control and we have to draw the line somewhere to keep our sport grounded.
I say get rid of it all except mapping and 2d sonar, you would really see who has the skills and knowledge. While you're at it, give only one day of practice, you would see some real competition, and it will drastically help with conservation and reduce the pressure.

Agree with what you are saying, and I however expect the money to get bigger to the guys that get up on stage and describe how their electronics made it able to see the fish as part of their sponsorship deals. Not sure if you can get enough pros to walk away from the money that is likely to be thrown at them.

All tournaments won with Livewells (not Livescope) get an asterisk in my book. In this day and age, what’s the point? A livewell costs as much to build and maintain as Livescope and its been killing fish for much longer (stressed fish, orphaned fry, aquatic hitchhikers, etc). Environmental scar. In this day and age, why? The technology exists to ban them. Fact.

IV stopped watching bassmaster mlf all that because of it you can't learn anything when someone comes across that screen watching there screen .I turn off my screen . Best way I can say it .
The MLF heavy hitters events and the World Championship even would all love to disagree with you. These events use MLF provided gear, everyone has the same boat, same outboard, same electronics. Smalle 19ft boats, 200hp, 2 graphs, one up front, one at the console. And the guys who win normal events won these as well. I understand their side of it, but when they go to the extreme that anyone can be a pro and dominate the elites because there is no skill involved, it completely disrespects those that are at the top before and after FFS/Livescope came out. Good viewpoint Randy! Not a fan of LiveScope. Personally I don't like any tech with fishing. Just how I like to fish. It's the hunt that makes it fun. Also the peace I get outdoors away from tech. I'm in front of a computer all day. I want to catch a bass on my own experience and know-how. Not because I spotted it on a screen and threw my bait at it. Just my opinion.
FFS should be 100% allowed in practice, but when tournament day comes, then you gotta remember where those fish were. But as he said, it's here to stay and you gotta learn it. My problem with the conversation is people act like the ONLY reason these pros are good is because of FFS. That's simply not true. Jordan Lee, Seth, Jacob Wheeler, DC, etc are still the best anglers in the world, with or without it.
Randy when I saw the title of your video I had to watch as I thought you were referring to Seth calling out the poster boy of MLF and I'm assuming he's referring to Jacob Wheeler for cheating. Specifically getting lake information aka way points. I've heard rumors of this about him going back to hiring a guide on the Red River, having buddies camp out on his spots and purchasing way points. I'm curious if this goes anywhere or is just more pro fishing drama and there's been plenty of that lately!
Like everything else in this country, it's all about money regardless of the negative consequences.....i strongly urge people to enjoy the sport of fishing while u can...the quality of fishing is going to decline rapidly from this point on....look at kayak fishing these days....started off as a relaxful, peaceful, enjoyable sport..Now, they are being turned into tiny boats & taking away the kayak experience...kayaks with motors? I mean, come on people....if u don't have a $5,000 kayak in a tourney, your chances drop dramatically because of all the extras...all comes back to $$$$ being made by others, with no regard to the negative outcomes
I fish in an 800 reservoir fishing club. Active Target has made me a better fisherman. BUT....... I hate watching Bassmaster tournaments with people watching their screens and winning. You are a pro and you should fish like the majority of anglers around the world.

In the early 70's out west Dee Thomas was absolutely smoking the competition in most tournaments he entered using his 12' tule dipping rod technique and a homemade hair jig while fishing out of an aluminum boat . Fellow anglers complained the way he fished was Unsportsman-like "Meat Hunter fishing " and said they would boycott future tournaments if he was allowed to continue using his long , fixed line pole . Tournament directors were forced to incorporate maximum rod length restrictions to appease the other participants . Could this same logic be applied to modern FFS being classified as unsporting and Banned for use in tournaments if everyone complained and stuck together refusing to fish ? Unlike in the early 70's there is so much sponsorship money at stake today's pro's might be able to say NO! and boycott.

I’m starting to like live scope, reason why is because while the guys with live scope are focused on one fish for an hour, I’m catching 4 pounders under logs and winning local tournaments. 🙏🏼

Forward facing sonar is just like Aqua view cameras! Aqua view is banned from tournaments and forward facing sonar should be banned too!

Shouldn’t be practice days in tournaments period. It adds to the heat down the lakes take and it surely hurts the overall production of the tourney anglers bags.

100% agree with you Randy. Live sonar has no business being in pro bass fishing. Technology is getting out of control and we have to draw the line somewhere to keep our sport grounded.
I say get rid of it all except mapping and 2d sonar, you would really see who has the skills and knowledge. While you're at it, give only one day of practice, you would see some real competition, and it will drastically help with conservation and reduce the pressure.

Agree with what you are saying, and I however expect the money to get bigger to the guys that get up on stage and describe how their electronics made it able to see the fish as part of their sponsorship deals. Not sure if you can get enough pros to walk away from the money that is likely to be thrown at them.

All tournaments won with Livewells (not Livescope) get an asterisk in my book. In this day and age, what’s the point? A livewell costs as much to build and maintain as Livescope and its been killing fish for much longer (stressed fish, orphaned fry, aquatic hitchhikers, etc). Environmental scar. In this day and age, why? The technology exists to ban them. Fact.

IV stopped watching bassmaster mlf all that because of it you can't learn anything when someone comes across that screen watching there screen .I turn off my screen . Best way I can say it .

The MLF heavy hitters events and the World Championship even would all love to disagree with you. These events use MLF provided gear, everyone has the same boat, same outboard, same electronics. Smalle 19ft boats, 200hp, 2 graphs, one up front, one at the console. And the guys who win normal events won these as well. If you dont know anyt hing about bass behavior you could be chasing Crappie or schools of Carp for an entire tournament. You also have to know how to fish deep. I am a horrible deep water fisherman, if I got handed 20k in electronics to fish offshore, i'd still catch no fish doing it.

I understand their side of it, but when they go to the extreme that anyone can be a pro and dominate the elites because there is no skill involved, it completely disrespects those that are at the top before and after FFS/Livescope came out. Someone like JM has the power to put restrictions on live sonor in MLF. A compromise- Not on tournament days. I too fail to recognize wins using live sonor. Or Floggers. It is flat out cheating and unethical.

Good viewpoint Randy! Not a fan of LiveScope. Personally I don't like any tech with fishing. Just how I like to fish. It's the hunt that makes it fun. Also the peace I get outdoors away from tech. I'm in front of a computer all day. I want to catch a bass on my own experience and know-how. Not because I spotted it on a screen and threw my bait at it. Just my opinion.

FFS should be 100% allowed in practice, but when tournament day comes, then you gotta remember where those fish were. But as he said, it's here to stay and you gotta learn it. My problem with the conversation is people act like the ONLY reason these pros are good is because of FFS. That's simply not true. Jordan Lee, Seth, Jacob Wheeler, DC, etc are still the best anglers in the world, with or without it.

Randy when I saw the title of your video I had to watch as I thought you were referring to Seth calling out the poster boy of MLF and I'm assuming he's referring to Jacob Wheeler for cheating. Specifically getting lake information aka way points. I've heard rumors of this about him going back to hiring a guide on the Red River, having buddies camp out on his spots and purchasing way points. I'm curious if this goes anywhere or is just more pro fishing drama and there's been plenty of that lately!

Like everything else in this country, it's all about money regardless of the negative consequences.....i strongly urge people to enjoy the sport of fishing while u can...the quality of fishing is going to decline rapidly from this point on....look at kayak fishing these days....started off as a relaxful, peaceful, enjoyable sport..Now, they are being turned into tiny boats & taking away the kayak experience...kayaks with motors? I mean, come on people....if u don't have a $5,000 kayak in a tourney, your chances drop dramatically because of all the extras...all comes back to $$$$ being made by others, with no regard to the negative outcomes

I fish in an 800 reservoir fishing club. Active Target has made me a better fisherman. BUT....... I hate watching Bassmaster tournaments with people watching their screens and winning. You are a pro and you should fish like the majority of anglers around the world.

In the early 70's out west Dee Thomas was absolutely smoking the competition in most tournaments he entered using his 12' tule dipping rod technique and a homemade hair jig while fishing out of an aluminum boat . Fellow anglers complained the way he fished was Unsportsman-like "Meat Hunter fishing " and said they would boycott future tournaments if he was allowed to continue using his long , fixed line pole . Tournament directors were forced to incorporate maximum rod length restrictions to appease the other participants .
Could this same logic be applied to modern FFS being classified as unsporting and Banned for use in tournaments if everyone complained and stuck together refusing to fish ?

I've put a ton of hours on the water learning areas, how fish set up without it, it took years to understand the patterns and most of the time the patterns change on tournament day so the extinctive adjustments you make on the water make a thousand times better than some dude just telling around points or channels until you find a school then drop a stupid drop shot down and catch them.
