    You can tell he really knows what he likes to do. This reminds me of drop shotting the middle weed beds in our local ponds. Most guys will pass a pile of weeds as small as a dinner plate and ill land like 2-8 fish off it. I've done it before & I'll do it again.

    You know a guy REALLY knows what he's doing and talking about when he comes to a public lake stone cold choked with grass spends less than an hour surveying the lake habitat to narrow it down to prime areas and then proceeds to knock the LS out of the bass cast after cast after cast.
    This guy is my new bass fishing Yoda.
    And this is what it looks like when you ask what seperates the successful pro bass fisherman from those who try like hell but just can not make it happen.
    This guy is literally a machine

Best summer out there 2 years ago throwing whopper plopped 110s and 130s over the tops of grass in the middle of coves in the backwaters. You could see clumps out in the middle chuck the ploppers over the top middle of the day and hold on! One of the days I have on video on my channel. big fish was 7.2 and 26lbs best 5.

    So obviously he is fishing up north. Can we assume that the same patterns and techniques will have success in deep east Texas? Or will the Texas heat possibly scatter the fish through the grass more? I usually catch one here and there when grass fishing in the summer.

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. This tactic works anywhere there are dense vertical stands of grass so Texas, mid-South states and right down to FL all have lakes where this can be applied. If the grass seems too high and thick to work a bait efficiently through semi horizontally, give this vertical drop tactic a try. A topwater in the early am or late evening is a good way to find bass in expansive grass beds. Waypoint these areas then dissect with a flipping/pitching setup during the day. Good luck!

    When you’re jigging like this is your tension control set pretty tight?
    I see him letting out line and setting the hook pretty much immediately, but I don’t have a boat or good way of guessing rate of fall at full tension, half tension, etc.
    Any good advice on how to play out tension control and rate of fall?

      Tension control has more to do with the spool, but he’s letting the bait fall on slack line so it’s falls down vertically. He also explains that a lot of ppl let their bait fall on tension and doesn’t agree with it. Something to think about.

    Do the depth contours tell you much for this type of fishing? I've wondered if irregular contour wiggles in those prime weed depths (7-12') might be indicative of hard bottom (no definitive conclusions in my experience). In general, does bottom structure factor much/at all when you're targeting milfoil bass?

    Hey Seth: What do you think ... those weed clumps aught to be nicknamed milkfoil, given the tight schools of bass in them.

    Fantastically informative stuff, thanks Seth. Question.. So how does this visual fish location 'by clump' mesh with the whole structure fishing deal? Are you paying any concurrent attention to proximity to deep water, breaklines, points, etc. when you're targeting like this? Trying to get my around when & where cover matters most vs. when structure does.
