Thank you, CT. I subscribe to his channel, but I wouldn't be caught dead fishing on the back of Randy's boat during competition. I had a friend who drew him in a tournament and said he put his boat 5ft. from the bank and parallelled the shoreline all day. Needless to say, my buddy didn't catch any fish. Although I would've liked to have seen more back and forth between them, I understood why you had to swoop in to face-save Randy and move onto the next caller ('cause he was getting schooled by CT)

Depending on the technic you’re using. That’s the best way to catch fish. During certain times of year. IMO the non boater needs to look for technics that will work fishing behind the boat. If conditions allow . A buzzbait would be a prime example. You can make long cast behind the boat . Cover water and catch fish the boater missed.

@@cerebraltackle yeah when I fished draw tournaments . I tried to help my non boater a little bit. But in general . Boaters have invested to much to go to far out of their way to make it easy on there Co anglers. There’s been spring tournaments where cranking the the bank in 4 to 5 foot was the best way to catch a good bag. That usually means positioning the boat close to the bank. Definitely would make it difficult on a co. I think you just have to get a little creative though. Drag a mojo rig behind the boat. Or what until the boater turns the boat so you can get a good cast with a wacky rig. Also a boater targeting the bank will usually over look some cover that’s in a little deeper water.

Twice as a co-angler I helped my partner win a tournament. In both times I was getting hit on a specific lure and when they didn't have one, I gave them one of mine and they went on to win. No hard feelings. I considered those wins for both of us.

I fished as a co before fishing on my own and can say there were only a couple co's that I was looking forward to dumping at the end of the day. Their attitude at take off had a large part in whether I helped them or didn't give a rats ass. As far as Randy Blaukat, I'm tired of his whiny bs and especially his holier than thou attitude in general. I've already unhooked from his channel and it'll stay that way.

  • @TysonEdwardsFishing
    @TysonEdwardsFishing 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

I completely disagree on the multiple lures going through an area. If you go by a piece of cover flipping a jig and a co angler gets his turn because you are by it it's the co-anglers fish. If a guy up front wants to work numerous baits slow down then an fish it with both before you go by it. The co-angler is already pretty limited on fishing through fished cover already. To handcuff him to wait till the boater finally gives his okay or is ready to move on is ridiculous.

I’ve seen videos of successful boaters and co anglers both giving advice on being a co angler and I’ve see multiple guys say to fish a different bait than the pro. If the pro is working a bank with a spinner bait you should throw a jig. Give the fish a different look. Randy wants the opportunity to give all the looks he wants before the co angler has an opportunity to make a cast.

CT had some great points and at 11:47 pointed out one of the main weaknesses of Randy Blauket's arguments: he makes these blanket statements based on how a small percentage of people may act or a small percentage of outcomes and pretends that this represents every possible situation. He uses that kind of reasoning about FFS and here he used it again about co-anglers. For him to say there should not be any co-anglers anywhere is so tone-deaf to the spectrum of possibilities of tournaments out there that it makes it very hard to take his arguments seriously.

I gave Blaukat a chance and the more interviews I see and stories that come out about him. The less I like him not just as a Pro Angler, but as an individual. Bottom line is he is a selfish self centered person. I started as a co-angler. I progressed to a boater because I fished with good boaters who treated me with decency and respect. I have also fished with boaters that made me want to give up fishing. Which, are now the same boaters I beat on the water and there is nothing more satisfying than that. There are times I go back and fish as a co-angler. Just because it's presents a learning opportunity I can't get from the front of the boat. I consistently let co-boaters run my boat. When your fishing a tournament, every minute counts and I'm not going to take away fishing time from my co-angler while I'm retying. Maybe I had an epiphany while fishing and have to dig through my gear to completely change a setup. That cost my co-angler time they don't have. Now, some may disagree with that, but in my belief. That is part of being a good respectful competitor and sportsmanship. I believe in beating the other guy on my own merits. If I have to screw somebody over just to win. Then I've undermined the entire competition and my purposes for being out there. Blaukat's excuse almost every time is "I'm out there providing for my family," as if the other competitors out there aren't doing the same thing. As if he and his family is the only one that matters.

Randy is full of it, and himself. I started fishing Redmans in 86 at 17, and there were co anglers. There's always, in any FLW or BASS tournament, been a rule that co anglers fush from the BACK HALF of the boat. That means co anglers are not supposed to cast past the middle of the boat, period. Not just stand and fish from the back deck, and Randy knows that. And if he's allowed co's to throw past....he's been too much of a puss to say something or put his money where his mouth is, and protest them. That simple. I've been one both sides of it. Randy's just whining in my opinion. Because I guarantee he knows that he could be DQ'd for front ending a co angler. Besides, you're fishing against the fish, not anyone else.

However, your pro is gonna be spot locked the majority of the time in those areas. It's likely he wont get heavy on the trolling motor until he's running down the bank targeting docks and blow downs. This puts you at an extreme disadvantage as a Co angler, given you dont have the advantage of casting up ahead like your boater does you're limited to making casts directly off the side of the boat ...but due to how fast the boat is moving by the time your bait hits the water it's being dragged out of the strike zone before you can even begin your retrieve. I've never been a co, I've always been a boater so I'm not just jumping in to stand up for fellow co anglers. Be realistic. Don't want a coangler, then sign up for solo events. Coangler events keep people honest - lie detectors are not 100% accurate AND more importantly, not given to all solo contestants in a solo event. Also, always casting to the back of the boat is unrealistic because you will get snagged depending on the speed the angler is moving the boat. Casting parallel to the angler is best (don't go beyond 45 degrees). Another unrealistic comment from Randy is getting rid of most or all the leagues and back to one. You cannot get tens of thousands of anglers to want the dream then only have one professional league for 200 anglers.

I used to fish all kinds of different tournaments and guided this lake, and i can tell you that anytime i had a non boater fishing with me and i was on a good school of fish or happened to already have a good limit of my own that i knew would put me up the board, I'd always allow the co-angler to come fish the front of the boat and even run the trolling motor. I felt like they had skin in the game, just like i did and deserved a shot at gaining some of it back just like i did. I always tried looking out for a non boater. I wasnt fishing professional, which i wish I would've years ago, but even if i was fishing pro, I'd still give the co angler the opportunity to catch fish also.

  • @samsterling1462

I agree Randy can be a little abrasive in his opinions at times, but having a co-angler has got to be the most annoying thing about tournament fishing. Especially one who thinks he's fishing for the same prize pool the boaters are.
BASS and MLF need to work out some rules that incentivize boaters and co-anglers working together. Something that doesn't make it seem like they're competing against each other in the same boat. Only then will every co-angler's advantage be fair. If you don't incentivize it, then at least draw some hard black and white rules that can't be broken without penalty to their weigh-in (for boater and co angler).
Overall this doesn't seem like a difficult solution to fix, and fighting over preferences at this point is just petty. CT is an 18 year veteran to co-angling, and Randy is a veteran to hosting co-anglers. Of course they aren't going to agree on this stuff!!! lol

Paralleling the bank is way better for the guy in the front in most cases than casting to it. I understand being bummed being in the back, but frankly, if a guy wants to be the best he has to put himself in the best position possible to catch em. Personally I wish coangers were not a thing because it adds external influence to the anglers trying to make it pro, if you have someone backcasting, getting snagged and pulling the boat around, throwing loud lures, etc it can have a huge effect on your tournament.

Even though I normally fish the back of the boat I agree with Randy but maybe not for the completely same reasons….COST to own a boat!!
    Boaters have major costs
    Truck- 30,000 to 65,0000
Boat- new ones over 100,000 loaded with
    electronics
    Fuel
    Insurance
    Washing, detailing, maintenance
    Entry fees are higher
    Time pre fishing
I get to fish with lower entry fee, 50-75 for gas and a bag of ice….
Boater can fish where and how he pleases..
if I dont like it I need to buy my own boat…
That having been said, most boaters try to accommodate as much as possible

Do co anglers still pay half the gas in travel with friends in add to prize pool in add a money aspect . Also alot of back boat guys wouldn't cast in front if u didn't crowd the bank. The gas money thing gets very controversial to me.. the boaters want to tell the co they have no rights in the boat but then they expect the co to put some cash in their pocket at the end of the tournament. IF i was to every sign up as a co-angler, whether or not I contributed to the fuel would be directly tied to how the boater treated me and whether he made small efforts to give me a chance at putting fish in the livewell.

That's why Randy is saying he did the work and found the fish and they shouldn't be allowed to fish for his fish. Most people are talking and don't even know that simple fact. It's not just Randy who feels this way trust me. It's just that he, being the outspoken person he is, is one of the few who will voice his true opinion on the matter. I am NOT saying that I agree with him on this and most all other subjects, I just know this to be true from 1st hand accounts. Many years ago I fished as a Co-Angler in a couple BASS Pro/Ams. One "Well Known" pro, who is still somewhat active gave me the rundown before we started which basically consisted of don't do this, don't do that, sit back there and fish and don't bother me. Another Pro did about the same but put me in situations all day that basically did not allow me to fish at all (Front-Ended Me). I told BASS I would never fish another due to the way the Pros treat the co-anglers. Their response was that these guys fish for a living and I don't. This statement may be true but Co-Anglers do not spend their money to sit on a boat and be treated as a "Non-Fishing" passenger and not as a Co-Angler. When it comes down to it, the way it was done back then was nothing more than a way for BASS to increase gross revenues!!

It doesn't take all that much effort to say "hey, i'm gonna go down this bank and pitch to this laydown and then if I don't get bit throw a spinnerbait to it, so please don't cast to it till I'm done" Pretty simple. Every time one of his statements was challenged, he came up with another excuse, which tells me that his real point is he doesn't want a Co angler in his boat at all.

Is that said my partner is phenomenal, he will ask what I think fish are doing, if I start figuring fish out he will put me on the trolling motor, but once again we are fishing team style tournaments so any fish in the live well is a fish for us. And as a co angler just communicate with your angler, like “hey man if we are going to be doing ffs all day long, could you help teach me so that I can be a more effective fisherman during these situations”. Simple communication can go a long way in all aspects of boating with someone.

I have been on both sides of this issue. My take is this. Coanglers are the future of Bass fishing. They are competing too. These anglers are the ones that are trying to move to the next level , example Brian New. They are future boat purchasers and the ones buying all of the tackle your sponsors are pushing. Without coanglers the tackle industry would fold up. There are rules in place and both the boater and coangler must fish within these rules.

What if a chandler was fishing off the back of the boat and the boater came back and started casting on top of him would CTs argument be the same?

Randy is a professional piss and moaner. You never heard much about him but he survived. I haven't followed fishing in years because they destroyed the sport I enjoy. I live on Chickamauga Lake and they've destroyed it also. When you start catching fish you learn that most fishing shows are BS. Randy does better on TH-cam than he ever did in a boat. He's a SS TH-cam fisherman.

Randy wants a boat marshal, just isn't good enough to get to that level apparently. Instead he fishes co angler tournaments and is mad they are fishing.....

Randy is out of his dam mind someone catching his fish. You passed it up that’s on you. Your basically calling dibs on a ghost fish because you actually don’t know it’s there if your coming back through later. Cut that crap Randy go qualify for the elites oh wait you can’t

As a co-angler what worries me more about boater/co-angler relations is when I look at his profile and it says that he's fished 56 events and only has $989 in career earnings in those events....Yikes 😬

I think it comes with the territory. I watch alot of these guys and i have been a co-angler off and on for years. The fact hes calling them goobers is inappropriate! Most of those goobers are also your youtube subscribers! Its a good way to lose subscribers! If your a co-angler know the rules! Do not be casting in or towards the front of the boat! Also not all of us have the money to become a pro!! I will bass fish against any pro any day of the week for pink slips!! Alot of co-anglers are damn good fisherman! Dont be so quick to count them out! Fish on! 🐟🎣

Anyone who disrespects their co-angler is a disrespectful person. I always am helpful to my co-anglers'; most of them are even more broke than me.

I cant lie if you have invested over a thousand dollars to fish a tournament i could see people getting irritated having a co angler or being distracted by other people being in the boat .

True im looking at a aba tournament and they are discussing the same thing they have lack of co anglers 80 boaters and 20 something co anglers so they are making it a solo event which is sad like a guy just said everyone cant afford a boat but want to fish too.

Aba is a great trail ran by good friendly people. Most 90+% anglers are very respectfull of each other.

@@kevinbeaudean704 when it comes to the guy in the back of the boat...it's about respect and communication! As long as the two are respectful and communicate, it should be an easy day.

@deltabass9697 not sure which division you are in but ETX is the opposite. No boaters show up and 50 co angler's are registered a month in advance. Aba has gotten horrible at scheduling with bigger events going on the same day so they do good if 20 boats show up.

About the question/situation of, how is that your fish, Randy might as well call out "claimed" on a structure that he wants to make a couple of passes on. Once that structure is about the middle of the boat it is fair game.

Btw, ABA has tournaments now without cos. So do some others. Here is the BFL rule: “Any boater that, in the judgment of the tournament director, operates the boat in such a manner that unfairly handicaps his/her co-angler and any co-angler who unfairly handicaps his/her boater may be disqualified for that day.” And no, just because I fish as a boater in BFLs etc does not make me a pro. I have a day job. And FLW/MLF has always described BFL as top competition for “weekend anglers.”
