As an old deadhead I have a hard time admitting it, but I like this version even more than Grateful Dead´s. Mollys voice suits the song perfectly, and it's sung with such passion.
It depends on the Dead version, but...yeah...this is about as definitive of a studio version as the Dead could have done...probably better in fact There were many live Dead version better than this, versions where Jerry's voice was solid and he was singing his heart out, but there were also a LOT of versions where Jerry's voice was beyond shit and he couldn't recall half the lyrics even with a teleprompter. Leaving all of that aside, this is just a beautiful version of a wonderful song.

I mean it did, with the Dead and other bands from the 60s. But can you imagine Jerry and Molly trading licks on stage? Wow! As I listened now, I heard the "I'd rather be with you..." as spoken by the victims of war to those they left behind. These victims are men, women and, YES, children. Also, hearing you - a woman - sing it amplifies the effect...as women first labored and birthed these now-dead lives into being. Jerry is also smiling down. Gratefully, a 75-year young Deadhead

Some have noted a "Mother Goose" strand that runs throughout the Grateful Dead's music. I would add a "Patriotic" strand to that. "Crimson, white and indigo..." And here is America's sweetheart singing about Old Glory, Standing on the Moon. Priceless!
