I know! Anyone can point to a drawing or sketch something on paper to which I say; "Now let's see you make it!" The best designers are first and foremost drapers, pattern-makers, tailors and seamstresses whom understand textiles and how they behave during draping and fabric joining.
Omg now I understand what they mean by QUALITY. I hope the people making this art actually get really well payed. I'm in love with these skirts and dresses. Omg. :)
Julia F. G. This is really how things are made in the couture world. These pieces are made to order and would never be found in any shop, not even in the brands own shop
My friend working at sale designer at store she make 8,000$ per month 6 hour working at 5 days per week work she seem super happy tho ^^ I think Dior pay well
These aren't the dresses you buy at Dior. I don't think people will ever understand this. I feel like haute couture's only purpose is to fool idiots into thinking their ready to wear clothes are painstakingly made by hand.
It's those artisans in the ateliers who interpret the designers' dreams who totally rock!! They make those dresses worth every single cent. Long may they reign!!! Seamstresses are badass!
who its that only person who gets the credit? Mr Christian Dior? who died in 1957 These luxury brands and just that, a brands, everybody gets the credit that they deserve
Joselyn Hernández-Maldonado that's exactly what I thought when I saw the creative director greeting, and I think he have made his work to deserve it, he's selling his name, his ideas, but yeah, once you see the whole process it's easy to see it like that.
that's partially true! people give all the credit to Steve Jobs for creating Apple but forget about the software engineers who develop the apps and the software for apple products. At this point this is a fashion house, so they have many designers who contribute to making a product, so my point here is that all companies have labour and Dior is no exception. (at Least they have adult professional seamstresses haha, you know other companies have child labour making clothes!)
I watched this docu last week. It makes you appreciate and respect what they do. People make thunk Dior is another "overpriced" designer couture line but it's a lot of time, heart, blood, sweat, and tears. You appreciate the thinking and hard work that goes behind lycées that are so beautiful.
Go read the NYT article that exposed them for using sweatshops in india, they are just as scummy as the rest and try to sell you shit like this video to make you think otherwise
I'm so impressed. How can they walk down stairs in heels.... without looking down? Can't even make it down a stair with sneakers without tripping if I dont keep my eyes on the ground xD
I have worn high heels for over 35years and I can honestly say that I cannot walk in flats or revolting trainers. Flat shoes make my calf muscle ache like hell. But I wear 4 to 5 inch heels from getting up to going to bed !! What it is women now where heels to go out to functions or parties and they kill them because 99per cent of the time you arnt wearing them. And walking down stairs is easier than going up definitely xx👠👠👠👠👠👡👡👡
So essentially.. It's a waste of money, lol. These high fashion dresses cost an arm and a leg. Money that cold be donated to people who have nothing to eat. I'll never understand bored rich people.
Little Rinny it depends. For example, at this time our society has made the use a of a smartphone a necessity because it has almost all functions we need to work; emails, phone calls, texts, calendar, clock, docs, etc... It also depends on what job you have of course.
k_s nah, who cares if it's "high end" if I pay a lot of money for something that I like, I'll wear it however many times I want. at least until it becomes ruined, lol
This is really fascinating to watch. "...the crazy prices on couture start to seem at least a little less crazy." -- exactly what I was thinking! I just have to say that I love the variety of content you guys are publishing. Very refreshing and original.
The skill required to produce just ONE dress is beyond belief. These artisans are truly irreplaceable .Would love to see more behind the scenes like this.
Dior as a brand is amazing. The fact Dior is one of the few haute couture houses that actually has couple of Black apparel techs working in their atelier makes them even more impressive!
Meg Altright yeah but you don’t pay for that. Unless you’re a celebrity paying for a commissioned garment, you’re most likely paying for slave labour work
OMG, the amount of work for the peated skirts - coloring the ribbons, attaching them to this organza in a specific order... the pleating by hand ,,, the sewing ! Amazing...
When I was in high school around 7 years ago, we had a project where we had to talk about the process of making a product, some people chose to do things like soap and chocolate, using clips of those "How It's Made" video in their presentations. I've always had a passion for fashion (Bratz), and I remember watching this video for the first time and thinking that it would be perfect for my project. The presentation went very well and everyone seemed to really be into it, including the teacher who gave me the highest grade in class. My favorite part were the mini chocolates I gave out that I meticulously stuck a Dior logo on to stay in theme with the video. Seeing this video gave me a rush of good high school memories!
I can't stop watching this video. I had no idea how pleats were made. Those ladies and gentlemen are very special. I would love to see more videos like this pleeeeease.
stumbled on this video and could not believe so much hard work is put into making clothes. so much attention to detail. from quality of dye to perfectly creasing the material. all the tools needed for its perfection. I will begin to appreciate the price we pay tho I can not afford to buy one. haha
Justeen Bailey Thank you for understanding. Some people don't know real making clothing is like. And think buying everything comes easy to them. Thanks for caring.
I wonder how much these talented people make? Because at the end of the day, they are the ones that make these visions come true. They are the real designers.
To people saying you only wear it once, fashion is art, you might only look at an art piece once at a exhibit but the beauty of seeing it , the dream turned reality is worth it, it's also documented and in that way immortalized 🌹
Another level completely!!!! They are actually making the fabric!!!! To see these beautiful skirts & to KNOW from the video that a labor of love went into creating them. . .wow!!!! Wearable art for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️💎
This was amazing to watch! It blows my mind to see how much work is put into one dress and the tools that they use. I make costumes so I TOTALLY got it when the stitcher said "these stripes are going to drive us crazy" haha XD especially if it is a whole collection of stripes! I also loved how you edited the video, it was as pristine as Dior and the collection :)
I am blown away!!!! I would do anything to work at Dior or Chanel. I would sweep the floors so long as I could see what was happening. Mindblowingly fantastic💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Man nothing against the immense Maria Grazia Chiuri, but God, Raf was magical! That man, brought Dior's silhouette back, contemporazied it and elevated it so much! He was my favorite period in Dior's history.
I’m kinda of pissed off that they didn’t give credits or label inspired by Hmong/Miao/Asia culture clothes. They just take credits as if it came fresh from the top of their head. Big names get away with unknown/small things.
@@Beyondyouuu It's understandable for a non designer to not understand the world of design. Why not go and look at their mood boards....youll see inspirations of all kinds. I'm wondering where you have ever seen a collection of clothing that write down all of their influences and techniques for the general public who don't care anyways.....I bet the answer is zero.
This is why for me Dior is the best designer. They make clothes that is for every occassion, timeless, classic and even if years go by its still in fashion!😘💕
the designer is the one with the ideas, although he has ateam, he calls all the shots and he has the final say, love those pleats, how I wish I could work there
I think the entire point of this Dior video is to showcase the artistic aspect that goes into creating a line for a run way show or any fashion line for that matter. Clothing and fashion are an avenue of self expression and being able to design and create a line of clothing that is able to generate emotion and present a story is an art in itself. For anybody to downgrade a creative genius such as Dior is a blasphemy. Art and creativity are a necessity that very few possess the capabilities of showcasing. I myself designing as my form of self expression. There are may different creative outlets for us all to use. I believe the world needs more creativity and less conformity. More art and creativity! Lets continue to break rules and remain innovative and un-relatable to the average mind. If you are someone who feels they lack creativity, I encourage you to utilize your mind to its greatest capacity and see how far it takes you. Lets go! Art over all!
This is not simply dress making; this is ART !!! I always put Dior into a place aside from others. Anybody, any advices to an old lady (50yrs) who wants to engage herself into this type of work ?
TNH they're from his own collection and inspired by Sterling Ruby, who is an artist and a friend of Rafs. I would assume that the pieces they made in collaboration are some of his favourite work considering it was done with a close friend of his. I love the collection myself.
I have so much respect for all designers and the seamstresses in the ateliers... the process for making one couture dress is just captivating.
Too true!
True 💕
I know! Anyone can point to a drawing or sketch something on paper to which I say; "Now let's see you make it!" The best designers are first and foremost drapers, pattern-makers, tailors and seamstresses whom understand textiles and how they behave during draping and fabric joining.
@@castaway123100 which is really not a big deal.people used to make their own dior clothes..
Wow, I never appreciated just how much effort goes into these dresses until now. They're works of art.
londontolosangeles12 now I understand why is it so expensive it's not about the brand it's about the effort and the design
Look at Chanel Métiers D'Art
londontolosangeles12 it used to be like that back in the 60.-70 in Poland.
londontolosangeles12 that is why a dress cost more than $10k
Omg now I understand what they mean by QUALITY. I hope the people making this art actually get really well payed. I'm in love with these skirts and dresses. Omg. :)
+MarI sabel That is why high-fashion and couture is expensive! The people who work for the company/brand are well-paid artists! :)
fernando balcazar This is not how actually goes
Julia F. G. This is really how things are made in the couture world.

watch Dior and I on netflix

This was not only well shot but incredibly interesting. Love videos like this!
simpleDIYs Me too!! I love seeing videos of things being constructed!!
Ikr I love this kind of video. It's not just a video but it show you the aesthetics side from cinematography
no wonder why they're so damn expensive
Transportation and many redundant steps.

ss
they dont interpret the design, the design specs are given to them, and they implement them
They make real the specs, Jemma. Thus the seamstresses artistic role can in no way be diminished by saying they don't interpret. Of course they do.
You mixed up pattern makers with seamstresses... much like civil engineering vs contractors.
Too many people working hard and only one gets the credit.

the pleats are amazing
After watching these videos I came to understand the price of haute couture, they are a work of art! 💐
What beautiful filming. It's so intriguing to see the making of a couture dress, so much hard work, time and effort goes into it.

The music to this gave me a creepy feeling the whole time
i was looking for a comment like this. i felt so anxious, i had to turn it off-
Keeli Jo looked like the intro of a psychological weird movie
Petrus 906 or futuristic/sci-fi movie
I nearly cried lolll I guess that's the effect they were going for
Keeli Siyaka y? It's great
Raf and his team always slays c;
ikr
I like how this Dior collection stays simple , It is truely beautiful :)
the whole outfit is great

Our Hmong Tradition Clothes are like this also. We just don't have those machines make the skirts, we use hand sewing on the skirts to make it zigzag.

Heavenly Angels in fact i do
Heavenly Angels I give a fuck 😊

that dress is so gorgeous, and so well made...
it looks amazing but idk it looks like those clothes u only wear once
Jana That's what haute couture means!! :)
+Κυριακη Αροτσιδου high fashion means you only wear it once?
High fashion means you don't need an ocassion to wear a really expensive and weird dress
you dont really wear it, its mainly for the art of fashion rather than just wearing it
Jana or the ones u buy say u will ware it but don't want to ruin it so u don't
the dress was absolutely beautiful. i can't get over it.
First I thought the dyeing is the most satisfying thing to see, then I see the pleating process...wow!
Man that music is perf. Want more vids like this!
I love those dresses/skirts I want all of them!! 😂
beautiful collection and beautiful dress..., but i still miss john galliano u.u
j'avais déjà vu ce reportage, les directeurs sont suuuuuuuuper exigeants!

Hmong Style remake. My mom made skirts like that hand made.
See Lo was just going to say this a copy of Hmong soirts
See Lo I feel !! Hand sewn and hand stitched every patter too!

The director did a phenomenal job.
So glad I subscribed to your channel! I love these types of videos.
uuugghhh those pleats are SO SATISFYING. love to see the process. 💗
What a mindblowing work👌👌👌 each piece is incredible 👍👍👍
I did not know that was how those kinds of pleats are made! Fantastic!
Amazing. Love the precision and patience!
the dress is made by so many people, and I like the Dior's people work attitude !
Raf 🙌🏾... king of minimalism 🤍
QUE INCRÍVEL! você olha e não dá nada pela roupa, mas quando descobre como é feita... tudo muda!

haha
