Chanel needs to put up interviews with seamstresses, and give them the recognition they deserve.

Knikki Knowles You sound like a McDonald's employee. There's a reason people are paid minimum wage for a task that requires little skill in comparison to artisans with years of experience in their craft. Apples and oranges. Even if they were only working for themselves and selling their goods on Etsy they'd still deserve recognition for doing what they do. I've been in the world of low pay and grunt work so don't come for me in the comments section like you're gonna start something.

For those who think that Mr. Lagerfeld is not giving his seamstresses the recognition they deserve, you obviously don't know or perhaps understand what an Atelier is. And you've probably haven't witnessed his fashion performances where at times he brings his head seamtresses out with him at the end. I would wager my entire sewing studio that not one of those seamstresses complains about having the spotlight over having the privilege and honor of being a House of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld seamtress.

I worked in a design room. The machine at the beginning is called a linking machine, the needles are called points, the number of points per inch depends on the the fabric being used ie-: the finer the yarn,,,,the finer the points. For a fully fashioned garment every stitch on the neck, shoulders, cuffs, and welt has to be linked onto the points.

Brilliant video of the introduction of two-tone Cnnenel Cardigan advertisement. In the audio, I really enjoy in listening to the scissors cutting the textile material sound. This video is introducing not only the material of the highest fashion queen's robe from but also how painstaking and scrupulous making the cardigan from each stick of knitting to the sewing up the assembling pieces together including tiny weeny pieces in the outfit. I realize even knitting wear is also in such high quality and understand it will last for a long time as a keen knitter .................................... It's lovely that Chanel is demystifying some of its allure with these short films, because it goes right back into its mystery. The Ouroboros feeds itself at great expense; it is up to you to toss it coins, to be a part of its journey alongside Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld. The sweater is a triumph in any wardrobe, epic or pissant.

To have all those in-house machines with dedicated purposes, and a small number of craftsmen doing the same thing meticulously... to be able to produce from beginning to end is quite a beautiful thing, and yet it does make me feel that the price tag is more for how industrialized the process is rather than the craftsmanship.

What is sad is that most sweaters were made this way in the US and the EU until the early 90's when many factories closed because fast fashion was made cheaper and cheaper with China joining the world trade organization. The largest factory in the USA was owned by Van Heusen and existed in Philadelphia on 7th and Spring Garden streets. We made clothes like this for JC penny, Sears, Pendleton, Eddie Bauer until 1992. It is terribly sad that this quality is now couture, when it was available for $40 at JC Penny.
