This is one of the most realistic abuse videos I've ever seen. With my family though, it was both parents telling me I was ruining the family. And they trained both my siblings to believe this... I hardly talk to them now. We need more videos like this. When I was growing up, I didn't know this was abuse. But seeing this as a kid would have me calling dcf... I could have been saved...
My brother wouldn't poison my food though. Maybe spit in it or otherwise contaminate it... Destroy my stuff... Because daddy and mommy said I was the reason they had to leave their awesome home in school and file for bankruptcy... Because I just had to be born didn't I?!
And to avoid being in trouble, they used to tell me if I dared to call social services (DCF) then in the five minutes it took for them to get there they would beat me into a coma... Or they told me if I called they'd take everyone away, they'd both lose their jobs, we'd lose the house... And once again I'd be responsible for ruining the family...
I kinda want them to do an episode on my abuse growing up but with an actual happy ending... Where the girl watches her parents get locked up and gets to live in a home with a family that wanted her...

It’s so important as the mother to set the example of what will and will not be tolerated, because the kids will follow that even more than they’ll follow the orders of an abusive father. When my father hit my mother, she fought back with ferocity and broke his arm. She loved him, but she did not tolerate his abuse for one second. I grew up with this example seared into my mind and while yeah, I’ve got trauma to boot, the one and only time a man laid his hands on me was the LAST time he ever tried 😅 Teach your kids that this is not okay; don’t show them that a little apology and logic is allowed to sweep away abuse.

I love (well, love is not the right word but...) how in TVshows and movies the psychological abuser ALWAYS turns out to be a physical abuser doing things so terrible the police can't ignore them (like leaving the freezer open so it's obvious what will happen ? seriously ?)
In real life, psychological abuse is absolutly real, and an absolute nightmare to prove since there is nothing physical. Ever.
I'd really like some depiction of actual psychological abuse. With no physical mistreatment (or at least nothing so blatantly obvious). it might help people.
Beause here, if someone victim of psychological abuse sees this episode, they'll think "oh, my life is not so terrible after all, i never experienced things like that, so everything must be normal".
    And that's freaking dangerous.

That’s the type of kid to end up on juvenile detention center or state mental hospital for a long time or maybe forever. I know he learned this stuff from his dad but they broke away from the dad and we’re safe for a little while tell he gave his location away. Fun Fact: "Spare the rod, spoil the child" Does not have the meaning you think it does. See the rod they are referencing is the rod used to herd sheep (I believe) and everyone knows Jesus loves his connations with shepherds.
By sparing the rod I think they mean to NOT hit the child. By spoil the child many people take that as what will happen if you don't, but I think it means they will become spoiled. I think it means to listen to them, which is a rare luxury parents don't give their children genuinely.

    • @scottmatheson3346

no, the aphorism is unambiguous, it means that if you don't employ physical punishment with your children they will become spoiled. stop trying to rationalize away bible verses because you are embarrassed by them. if you really can't live with hard bible verses then stop being a christian, that's more honest than being a cafeteria christian.

    • @batkat0

@@scottmatheson3346 Except the phrase "Spare the rod, spoil the child" is not actually in the Bible. There are proverbs that likely inspired it in the poem where it is found. That said it's silly to argue over a book from thousands of years ago, translated and mistranslated multiple times, and ,you know, not based in reality.
