From a NavyLookout article for those curious: She’s a one-off for trials and experimentation by NavyX, the RN’s “Autonomy and Lethality Accelerator”.
Her role may include “a series of projects in development that will potentially include the deployment of Maritime Autonomous Systems - uncrewed underwater, surface and airborne vehicles. She will also trial new sensors and AI decision-making software and be a platform for further development of modularity and the Navy PODS concept.”
Only cost about £7m and took under a year to build and get into RN hands.

I am glad the RN is being pro-active with new tech & development, helping evolve the Senior Service, as Samuel Pepys & Jackie Fisher had done.
Being properly prepared is key, especially in our fast moving world - because if you need to 'react' it may already be to late...

I’m certainly going to look out for that one in the harbour and out in the Solent.
So come on Fleet Media - what are the experimental roles she’s going to undertake?
I was at the launch of HMS Triton over at Woolston what must be over 20 years ago. She was an experimental tri hulled corvette sized vessel that faded into obscurity sadly but looked a stunner at her launch.

    • @rowanmaguire7890
      @rowanmaguire7890 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I took my dad, since sadly passed away in 2019, to the launch at the builders shed at Woolston and it was a crescendo of noise as she went down the slipway and into the River Itchen. At the time she was mooted as the new next best thing - like they all are.
I’m so glad she’s doing well and has not hit the scrap heap like so many others.

Look at the past to see where the future takes you. The RN has a history of innovation from the early wooden warships to the latest craft it's just a pity we don't have more ships in the Fleet, big or small. And now Drones are becoming part of the options available to ships at sea, so any innovations that enhances our RN are a welcoming way forward. Yes I'm biased, I'm a veteran of 32 years!

    • @G1NZOU
      @G1NZOU ปีที่แล้ว +1

Because it's an off the shelf design from a shipbuilder that happens to be based in the Netherlands, Damen.
The project specified it had to be a prebuilt ship that matched the required specs, that was available for sale but not pre-owned. It just happened that Damen had a good product that got chosen.
All the various tech that the ship will test will be installed in the UK, and swapped out for different tech. Think of it like a floating sandbox that the Navy can play about with and experiment with different systems without effecting the deployment schedules of the regular Frigates and Destroyers.

I remember a poster on the wall of a classroom at Dryad back in 1987 detailing plans for a 25 man frigate. @MG-bs5mr ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@quasar_33b I just mean that they have smaller crews than an equivalent vessel would have had in the past. That's mostly down to automation in my understanding.
Again, in my understanding, if a ship has to deal with severe battle damage whilst simultaneously continuing to fight then it's very, very labour intensive.
So yes a crew of 1600 but I don't thinks it's a stretch to imagine that being shorthanded in a scenario like the Exocet strike on HMS Glamorgan in the Falklands.
Some of that 1600 crew will be dead, some will be badly injured, some will be trapped.
The rest have to deal with the injured, reach the trapped, fight fires, plug holes, get automated equipment back online, fight the ship, etc.

I will not comment more on military channels. I have already stopped publishing on military channels. because I am busy, that is why I publicize in this way, now due to future wars for water and natural resources in Latin America Peru must buy all kinds of heavy military material from any country in this case English frigates and tanks I would say they are the best candidates for Peruvian armed forces, Peru used British military weapons in the Cenepa armed conflict we used British Canberra fighter-bombers It should be noted that Peru shot down 7 aircraft to Ecuador and Ecuador shot down 6 aircraft to Peru, but Peru won because we Peruvians kept territory Tiwintza, returning to the theme of the Type 31 Leander frigates
England offered Peru these frigates to replace the Peruvian fleet that is made up of the lupo class, consolidating renewal and to arm the Peruvian armed forces, I understand that it can be built in SIMA PERU, and
Technology transfer can be done with Bae Systems, Cammell Laird, they are partners, they won an international tender in 2020, I understand that the cost of the Type 31 Leander Frigate is 350 million dollars, the FREMM frigates
The F-100 Frigates of Spain are between 850 and 900 million euros
It is not 400 or 600 million euros as some say, the FREMM frigates are very expensive from 700 million or more in euros, they are also expensive a cruise ship sank a ship from Venezuela coming from Navantia Spain, that is why the best candidate for the Navy of Peru is the English frigate Type 31
Leander is modern, it has good technology for the Peruvian Navy we must acquire when there is a budget later the Type 31 Leander 1, 2 or 4 English frigates, depending on the budget that Peru has and in terms of the English Challenger 2 tanks They are good candidates for the Peruvian Army and Peruvian Armed Forces. The price per unit is 5 or 7 million dollars. Its cost is around there. It has good armor, good technology, and is considered one of the best tanks in the world. It is also expensive, but it is a good tank, I think it weighs 62.5 tons, but it has a lot of armor and it also has real combat experience used in Iraq, the important thing is that it has been used in combat I think they have 148 tanks
the country Oman also uses these tanks, hopefully Peru and England reach an agreement later and a new Peruvian president buys about 60 Challenger 2 tanks this would be accompanied by the construction of hospitals and schools, the United Kingdom is also the main responsible for
the reconstruction of the North of Peru
by British companies. Regarding the tank candidates for Peru, all tanks, whether new or second-hand, are expensive, maintenance is expensive, the Peruvian military has already said that they will never buy tanks from Russia again, Black tanks South Korean Panthers are expensive, they are 85 million dollars and on top of that it is very expensive to pay more than necessary and they still do not export to other countries due to their high cost, French Lecrerc tanks are just as expensive everyone knows that in France nothing is cheap, after Turkish Altay tanks no because a Turk refused to sell new ships to Peru in the Pacific war Peru and Turkey have a good alliance but when it comes to buying tanks or spare parts, components there could be problems with the Turks, Merkava IV Israel no transfer technology and there would be problems in the bidding and the Abrams tank from the United States not because everyone already knows the Americans, even though you are an allied country of the United States, they impose restrictions and prohibitions to all, Peru is an ally of
United States, a Peruvian ambassador named Rivera Shreiber warned the US months before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Peruvian was honored in the US now returning to the subject, that is why the best candidate for the Peruvian Army is the English tank challenger 2 Hopefully when Peru has a budget with a new Peruvian president, Peru
buy Type 31 Leandre frigates or another model and name them Martin George Guisse and Miguel Grau,
British Englishman George Guisse was the founder of the Peruvian Navy with Jose de San Martín
The Englishman George Guisse fought against France, he also fought against Napoleon Bonaparte and later he fought against the Spanish,Another thing would also be good to buy Challenger 2 tanks and name William Guillermo Miller and Francisco Bolognesi, because the English William Guillermo Miller was the designer of the Peruvian military uniform of what is now the Peruvian Army, Miller helped José de San Martín to liberate Peru in its independence, Peru has a lot of influence, English doctrine and tradition, British Miller fought in the battle of Waterloo, and also the English Guillermo Miller fought in the battle of Junín and Ayacucho, which were very important battles for independence of Peru, here in Peru there are always magazines and a lot of information saying that the English empire supported Peru to free itself from the Spanish empire, that is, it is obvious that we Peruvians are accepting England and George Guisse as Liberators of Peru because if not in Peru we would not they would be putting a lot of information about this and would say that independence was bought, which is not the case, it is already proven that independence
England and the English did many things for Peru, as I have said on other occasions, although Simón Bolívar is the Liberator of Peru, England, the United Kingdom, the English people, and Argentina and the Argentine people are also the liberators of Peru. Although it is true that Peru and England are enemies, I say this because the English, the Falklands War, the Pacific War and the Pacocha battle are almost always talked about.
I am Peruvian, this is the user Bomba atomica Racso and T-Rex, go back to watch military-themed channels with this user, this will be published on military channels, the Peruvian government believes that in 1975 to 1978, the Peruvian government wanted to acquire a aircraft carrier to England when Peru could have declared war on Chile, the English government had no impediment and the English said that if they could sell the aircraft carrier to Peru, Peru had the English Canberra fighter bombers and the Hawk Hunter to attack Chile, the English demonstrated once again
that Peru and England are allies, the error came later with Belaunde Terry, who put Peru in the Malvinas, which Peru should have been neutral to improve the military alliance between Peru and England.
Peru must be neutral and never get involved in the Malvinas conflict again.
In the Pacific War and England's supposed financing of Chile in the Pacific War, I understand that England actually financed Peru and Chile, but the traitor Prado did not want to fully arm Peru, that is why we stopped being financed by England, In fact, the Huascar ship from Peru was English, Bolivia was the only country that was not financed by the English, and England also retained two ships from Chile and Peru during the Pacific War, apparently England was neutral, also that Prado was of Chilean origin I betray leaving unarmed and bankrupt
With very little weapons, we had nothing on us. Prado fled from Peru. finally england
the English founded from cities, banks, companies, schools, Inca kola drink, they even made football popular in Peru among many other things, etc. Thanks to England, Peru and Peruvians exist without England, Peru would not exist, it would continue to be a colony of Spain. This is reality, everyone knows this, that is why England should be the new liberator of Peru, and make the English language official.
in Peru in honor of England, Peruvians would speak in English and Spanish who knows this could happen in the future who knows because the reality is that England, George Guisse, José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar would continue to be the liberators of Peru, perhaps in the future England becomes the new liberator of Peru and history can be taught in schools and in all parts of Peru. Finally to add the British admiral Frederick Stirling, the French Du Petit Thouars, the Italian commander Labrano, as well as the ministers plenipotentiary of Great Britain and France, intervened to prevent Lima from being violently taken. You can see another support from England to Peru, in addition to Englishmen, Englishmen and Italians fought against Chilean soldiers in Lima, one or more Englishmen died in real combat and also Italians died in combat, also English sailors and Italian sailors landed due to the obvious attack Chilean. occupation in Lima, I understand that in the battle of San Juan and Chorrillos Peru used British Nordenfelt machine guns,
In addition, it is all interests, in any case England supported Peru in the Pacific War I hope that in the future Peru and England improve the military and economic alliance
    Greetings from Lima,Perú!

@@Dangleeballs274 The cutting edge tech isn't the boat itself, the boat is the canvas, they chose it for its modularity, decent deck space, plenty of power supply points for whatever they want to add, and a stable platform to deploy any autonomous underwater vehicles they might want to trial.
Sure under the cool paint job it's not glamorous, but this idea is pretty sensible to avoid disrupting the deployment schedules of the regular ships and it was procured pretty fast and without any major delay or issues. I see that as a win.

Well it's not designed as a high speed missile boat or corvette, it's a practical platform for various experimental systems before they decide to place them on the regular ships.
This allows them to test these systems on a dedicated boat without pulling any of the Frigates or other vessels from their incredibly busy schedules of deployments.

It's a testbed for various experimental systems and autonomous tech.
A boat the Navy can use to do this without pulling any of the frontline ships out of their deployments to do, and a boat that's a nice solid platform to do so, plenty of deck space, versatile power, digital helm control so the capability to be retrofitted to be autonomous itself.
The base model from Damen is pretty much a tugboat/crew transfer vessel so that's why it has that kind of design. But the Navy wanted an off the shelf proven, no nonsense design that would readily take any extra equipment they want to add.

Why would you spend the money on a frigate sized vessel and hire a huge crew just to sail around home waters trialling out a few new systems every couple of months? This seems very sensible and well procured with the least amount of delays and drama.

What is it with RN ship designers, 20 knots is nowhere near fast enough, the minimum top speed must be 30/40 knots or the “enemy” will just speed away from them. Definitely need more innovative designers than the ones stuck in the past. Pull your fingers out RN designers. Build a boat around its engines instead of just sticking in whatever fits.

    • @G1NZOU

It doesn't need to chase any enemies, it won't even be armed.
