- KV Bjørnøya is the second of three Norwegian coast guard vessels in the Jan Mayen class that replace the Nordkapp class built in the 1980’s.
The Jan Mayen class is constructed to accomodate helicopter, but currently has none. Seahawk helicopters expected to arrive in 2026 or 2027.
Norway has always been a great country to visit. Greetings from Australia.
Beautiful video, amazing music. 🖤
Nice ship, greetings from the 🇳🇱
“Exclusive tour” - dude only shows tender footage 😅 At least Norwegians haven’t sunk this vessel yet…
They are working on it how to sink it by mistake right now... 😂

This ship looks very much like the future Belgian and Netherlands MCM ships (mine countermeasures mothership ) with their drone capacity . Same type of unloading smaller boats or drones and similar shape of the ships
Well, I had a look at the Belgian/Dutch City Class MCM vessel specs, and I have to disagree... Both are modern vessel designs and may look similar at first glance - but they aren't. If we take a closer look, we find that the City Class MCM and the Jan Mayen Class OPV have virtually nothing in common, or at least very little, apart from both being modern military vessels:
First, both their overall visual designs, hull shapes and structures, number of decks and superstructure layouts are very different. And more importantly, they are two different vessel classes, with substantially different displacements (sizes), they are intended for two different roles, in completely different kinds of waters and climate zones.
The Jan Mayen class, conceived first of the two, is three times larger than the MCM class in displacement, and is a multi-role offshore coast guard vessel, while the latter is an anti-mine vessel. The Jan Mayen class is also built for operations in open Arctic oceans (to patrol the Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea) and therefore it has a hull type that can handle the Arctic oceans with ice (Polar Class 6, i.e. "Summer/Autumn operation in medium first-year ice which may include old ice inclusions"), electric anti-icing hull system, and with 150 mm cabin/deck insulation instead of the normal 50 mm in Polar Class vessels, etc).
Comparing specifications:

The 136,4 meter KV Bjørnøya is a «multi purpose» coast guard ship: Search and rescue, fishery inspection, sea and coastal patrol etc. Built for helicopter ops. The Royal Norwegian Navy consists of two main branches: The Norwegian Coast Guard and The Navy.

Beautiful ship. Impressive interiors. But where is the ship's helicopter ?
Some 22 years ago Norway ordered NH90 maritime helicopters that were haunted by delays. When they (some) finally arrived, the government decided to terminate the contract, and last year, ordered MH-60R Seahawks instead. They might be operational 2027-30, or so.

Inside? Which part of this video featured the inside?
I see your point . . . There should have been more inside fotage, but the staircase leading up to the 40 mm cannon is actually inside the ship.
Check our some of my inside pics in this article. Read in Google translate.

Why does a ship this size have no air defense? Is the small front cannon the only weapon for all tasks?
Its a coast guard ship not a frigate. They are usually lightly armed.
Its a coast guard ship bro
